I am so grateful to Dr. David Dufour at Alameda Spine and Disc. When I came in to see him last month I was struggling with debilitating sciatica symptoms, but just after just 6 visits over the course of 2 weeks, my sciatica symptoms have started to subside dramatically. During the past 7 years I have tried many things - physical therapy, personal training, massages, chiropractors, cortisone shots and Stretch Lab to help with the pain but nothing gave me relief. In the beginning, I would get occasional flare ups where the pain came and went but it did not impact my daily life. Then I started to have pain at night that prevented me from sleeping but I was still able to function during the day despite the lack of sleep for about a year. At the end of 2025 I started to get shooting/stabbing pains down my lower back, glutes and legs. The pain started getting worse until it started to interrupt my daily life of walking, standing, bending working out and holding my new granddaughter. Right then I knew I needed to find the right person who understood what was happening to me and how to treat my specific symptoms. I am not completely pain-free but this is the best I've felt in a long time. It sounds too good to be true to feel relief so fast and sometimes I'm almost waiting for the other shoe to fall but I am very hopeful that I will be back to normal soon. In addition to getting treatments from Dr. Dufour, he has also given me the tools along with exercises to help with my own recovery and to help prevent future flare ups as much as possible. The targeted approach to spine and disc health has really made the difference. I highly recommend his services to anyone dealing with similar issues! read more

I came to see Dr. David because after years of my own doctors telling me nothing is wrong with me and that the pain I experience in my back is all because of strictly weight. First session was difficult for me but as I've gone to him more and more my pain is slowly becoming minimal. I feel that I can finally live when before I was just getting by. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Dufour for about a month now and it's been such a good experience so far. I sit for about 12 hours a day for work, which has really messed with my back, shoulders and overall tightness. He actually takes the time to figure out what's going on instead of just doing a quick adjustment and sending you on your way. We've been working on a plan using the spinal decompression machine along with myofascial massage. The decompression has helped take some pressure off, and the massage work has been great for loosening up really tight areas from all the sitting. I feel like we're actually working toward long-term results. Definitely recommend if you're looking for someone who really pays attention and creates a plan that works for you. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Dufour for about a year now, and the results have been consistently positive. I originally went in for pain relief, and over time my pain has significantly decreased and become much more manageable. What sets Dr. Dufour apart is his thoughtful, patient-focused approach. He actually listens, takes the time to understand what's going on, and adjusts treatment based on how your body responds -- not a one-size-fits-all approach. I never feel rushed, and I always leave feeling better than when I came in. read more

I've known Dr. Dufour for years, and he has been a huge help with my chronic back pain from a sports injury. With regular care, my pain has decreased significantly and I'm able to move and stay active much more comfortably. If you're dealing with ongoing pain--especially from a sports injury--I highly recommend Dr. Dufour. read more

David Dufour I can't recommend this chiropractor enough!. I was originally referred by my niece that has been going to him for some time now. David got me in last minute when I was in a lot of pain, and the relief was almost instant. At 8 months pregnant, that kind of care and attention means everything. So grateful for the professionalism and compassion! read more

Let me start by saying I have seen a dozen different chiropractors, hundreds of doctors, and been put on numerous pain management plans. I was referred to Doctor David by a friend who also had chronic back pain. Doctor David is the only chiropractor that took time to get to know me and my lifestyle well enough to come up with a realistic plan that I could follow-through with. He listens to his patients and modifies treatment plans based on how you're feeling during the visit. Throughout the course of my weekly visits I did have several flare ups- but because of his knowledge of the body he was able to find a solution rather than a bandaid. I would ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND Dr. Dave to anyone that wants exceptional patient care! read more

Dr. Dufour simply does great work. Any of the aches and pains I have feel noticeably better after treatment. I had Dr. Dufour work on some pain in my foot as well as a stiff, sore neck. He is knowledgeable in his craft and is also able to educate me on different exercises and tricks to help me stay injury-free. He was able to answer all of the questions I had about my ailments. What I found to be great about Dr. Dufour is that he was using many different techniques during my treatment including adjustments, manipulation tools and ART massage. At first, I had never heard of ART massage but Dr. Dufour was able to help me understand how this technique would be helpful to me. I found that after the ART massage, my muscles felt looser with smoother mobility; especially in my neck. Overall, he was great to work with and easy to talk to and let him know what aches are bothering me. His office space is clean and atmosphere is inviting. I love all of the photography books in the waiting area! I highly recommend this chiropractor. read more

David is amazing. I went in with serious neck pain, and requested that he not adjust or 'crack' my spine as I have an aversion to cracking my spine. A chiropractor who doesn't crack your back? Yes! He cured me without cracking my spine, per my request. Instead of cracking, David offered to utilize a brilliant massage technique that completely alleviated the pinched nerves in my spine and cured me of my pain. He also offered suggestions about how to avoid this type of pain in the future, what activities and yoga poses to avoid, and was a VERY positive and encouraging guy. I told him that I have the spine of a 60 year old woman, and he said 'There is nothing wrong with your spine and you are very healthy". (My last chiropractor said the opposite) While many chiropractors will tell you tales of doom and gloom when it comes to your spine, and all the 'treatments' and medicines you will need to cure your aches and pains, David actually CURES the pain and is positive about your body's ability to heal, and makes it possible. This guy is great. I only wish I lived closer to his office. Or perhaps he could open an office in San Francisco? Thanks, David! read more

Dr. Dufour and I confirmed the Saturday appointment at 9 a.m. that he offered. I'm writing this review from the parking lot (~9:20 a.m.). The office door is locked, no one available in the office, :/. This appointment was for a second opinion...Looks like my search continues. read more

Simply put, David Dufour teaches you how to fish!! Knowledgeable, personable, great communicator. Initially I came to see David for lower back pain, shoulder blade pain (right under the scapula), and a correlation of my back pain to my acid reflux which I had had for the past several months. David went above and beyond in addressing all of these areas during my appointments and even going over previous bloodwork that I had done through my PCP! One of David's most important attributes is his ability to listen to your issues without interruption. He is a great listener and a compassionate person who genuinely wants to see you get better. The mainstay which kept me going to David and put my trust in his care was that he not only fixed the issues that I came to him for; he basically "taught me how to fish" by offering me several techniques and exercises to use for when I am at home or at work to keep my pain from reoccuring. His knowledge of the spinal cord, soft tissue, and muscle networks that make up our body were second to none but by far, it was the exercises that were most important when learning how to bring the pain I was experiencing in the past to an almost non-existent level in my daily life. Anyone can see a chiropractor for adjustments every week. These are temporary though and won't fix the root of the issue which is what David was there to address with me. If you want a chiropractor who is friendly, warm, and passionate about his work then David is a great choice. Finding a doctor who truly cares about your wellbeing is a gem to find here in the Bay Area, especially when solving the root cause of your issues is paramount to temporarily negating the symptoms. read more

What I appreciate most about Dr. Dufour is his experience working with the athletes on the San Jose SaberCats team. Those guys go through a lot and Dr. Dufour has seen a lot as a result. I have sports-related problems - sciatica, low-back pain, and problems related to muscle tightness. HIs muscle-release technique is great. I can see the technique he uses is a lot of work, and he spends a good amount of time with me per session, and the results are great. He's also great at giving advice on what to do outside of his office, so that I can take care of myself as much as possible. He doesn't push his services on me and pressure me to do more sessions which I have definitely experienced elsewhere. read more

Kind, caring and charismatic are only a few of the amazing qualities Dr. Dufour possesses. His solid hands and education allow him to not only treat specific issues but find the core of the issue and allow true healing to take place. I have worked with Dr. Dufour since 2009 and find him to be a most excellent Chiropractor. Five stars for sure! read more

Overall, impressive Chiropractor. I found David's practice randomly on yelp (Took a chance, since he was the closest to my office), and I'm quite happy with my decision! A hidden gem! He is an energetic, knowledgeable, accommodating, and skillful chiropractor that ensures his patients are well taken care from the moment they walk in the door. My Patient Needs: 1) Back (upper and lower) 2) Neck 3) Shoulders 4) Ankles *** injures/soreness/stiffness *** Would I recommend David Dufour, DC = ABSOLUTELY, YES! Dr. Dufour is different from other chiropractors I have seen and I have seen quite a few! I strained my back working at my desk and am also struggling with some stubborn old injuries. I saw an Acupuncturist for a while but didn't find real relief. I even went to see an Orthopedic Doctor who could only offer pain killers, physical therapy or surgery! Even though physical therapy was not quite effective for me before, I was willing to give it a try again. While looking for a physical therapist on yelp, I came across Dr. Dufour. By working together, Dave helps me believe that I can feel better again. What makes Dr. Dufour stands out is his expert use of ART (Active Release Technique) along with his Chiropractic adjustments which really help loosen up very tight muscles tendons and joints. Unlike other chiropractors who will push through like an assembly line, Dr. Dufour really takes his time to do the work with me. Even though I am not where I should be, but in just a few weeks, I am slowly able to get back to playing sports again! I am glad to have found Dave! read more

I have been to a couple chiropractors and Dave has clearly been the best. he is not just a knowledgable chiropractor, he is a really great listener and very easy to talk to, making visits easy and comfortable. After visiting two other chiropractors, Dr. Dufour's office was the only one that I was able to walk out of, rather than shuffle / hobble. Previous to seeing him, my herniated disk was so bad that a random old lady on the street offered to hold a door open for me. At the time, I seriously considered asking if she would lend me her walker. Dr. Dufour produced such great results and commands such extensive knowledge that I invited him to my company to hold a workshop (as I run our employee well-being program) . Of all my co-workers whom he saw, every one was pleased with his professional demeanor, personal attentiveness and most of all, results. read more

David is a consummate professional and really good at what he does. My car was rear ended and I got hurt pretty bad, especially in the head and neck area. I went to David and after a few sessions I was feeling as good as I had ever been. He is a patient listener and addresses every problem you have. Initially the pain was severe and I had to visit him frequently. He understood each of my problems and cured them really well. I enjoy going to Dr. Dufour when I have sprains and / or muscle stiffness. He is very knowledgeable, listens to his clients and is there to help. I came to him for a neck tension and I feel we both are working together to solve the problem (instead of just being rushed out of the door). After the first session I had significant improvements and was able to turn my head without pain for the first time in a month. read more

A friend of mine observed recently that at a certain level of skill the line between physical health disciplines blurs -- that practitioners operating on that level start to seem part PT, part trainer, part LMT, part chiropractor, regardless of which discipline is on their business card. David seems to be to be in that category. I came to him with a knee injury that had completely stumped a PT at ATI Adient and he was unfazed by it. He gave me a well-reasoned diagnosis and five brief chiro treatments, as well as some PT-style exercises and body mechanics coaching. It felt like little fuss, but I just got through a week-long backpacking trip with no pain. It's such a relief to have what seemed like a chronic and mysterious problem reduced to something minor and treatable. read more

Absolutely amazing and wonderful doctor! After I hurt my back I had to stop doing workouts due to pain and not only this was uncomfortable but also it was scary as my back hurt when I was sitting and moving. David and I have worked together for about a year now. His expertise and command over anatomy and functional movements are top notch. As a personal trainer, I take my referrals very seriously as they are a reflection of me. I have had nothing but positive results with David when treating clients is beyond my scope of practice. Personally, I appreciate his gentle approach to adjustments. He isn't harsh or jerky like some chiropractors can be. Being an athlete, I am sometimes hard to adjust or work on but David has helped me recover from a couple daunting injuries. He doesn't just crack your back and send you a bill. He really spends time working with you and going through each movement to make sure you are actually improving. All in all, David will provide excellent service and help you recover or improve your wellness. read more

David has been treating my teenage son for just a few weeks and the results are amazing! My son is an avid runner (cross country and track) and was experiencing intense upper back pain. David was very patient with my pain and spent a long time working directly with me as well as giving me homework to do at home to alleviate pain and self-heal. Activities such as planking, stretching, applying heat pad and rolling out my back were all things suggested as activities to maintain to reduce pain. This has been very valuable to me as I am able to self-help in many cases now. He even reviewed a diagnostic performed by another Chiropractor. He's very polite and will take the time to listen to your condition. I will continue to reach out to David if any further issues come up regarding the back pain/Arthrosis I've been dealing with. read more

I was suffering tremendously from my lower back pain for several weeks last November followed by days of sitting through horrible discomfort that I finally made the decision to see a Chiropractor. I literally walked into his office asking him if he could take me in last minute because of my severe pain. He was super helpful that within the first visit, he narrowed down my problem area. After a couple weeks he was able to put pressure on my lower back and relieve most of my pain. Whether I am in pain or just coming in for a general adjustment, I always leave feeling better than when I came in. Dr. David listens really well and takes his time to explain everything. He has a great sense of humor and is very professional. Most of all, he's helped my back issue immensely!! Thank you, Dr. David!! read more

I love Dr Dufour! I was referred to him by my roommate who was also seeing him for a sports related injury. This man works magic. Not only is he very knowledgable, he makes you feel at ease while he is twisting and turning your body just so. He is very timely, I never waited more than 30 seconds for him to bring me back. He is easy to talk to and somehow understands what you are trying to articulate even if it makes no sense. he just knows the body well enough to take "well, there it feels like..." And find the spot and fix it. Great guy! Wish I could've brought him back to the east coast with me. read more

I don't usually respond on Yelp, but I went to David based on the yelp reviews that I read. I told him that I was experiencing some lower back pain due to playing a paddle sport. He charged me $185 for a 20 minute stretching routine on my legs. I did not feel much better after I left his office but I thought I would give it a day and go play my paddle game the next day. I played for about 10 minutes before the pain got so bad that I couldn't play. I wouldn't have minded so much if he would've said he wasn't sure if this was going to help, but mainly because he charged me $185 for a stretching routine my wife could have done. One of my questions was if the pain could be due to something in my spine i.e. a pinched nerve or something. He didn't think so and he didn't do anything to realign my spine. So I'm not sure if the pain is related to something in my spine. I am very disappointed and probably will never go to a chiropractor again because I don't really know what it is they're supposed to do. read more
