Since my last review, I've had the absolute joy of attending a few prerelease events and draft nights at Alakazam Comics--and I've had such a great time! The vibe continues to be welcoming and inclusive, and the community they've built here is genuinely one of the best I've experienced. The owner and staff are always kind, helpful, and clearly passionate about what they do. Whether you're new to Magic or a longtime player, it's a fantastic place to play, learn, and just enjoy the game with great people. I also really appreciate how fair their prices are--they've got an awesome selection of 10¢ and $1 cards that make hunting for deck upgrades feel like treasure hunting! I'm so grateful to have this shop nearby--it really is a gem in the local Magic scene.

Cool little comicbook shop near John Wayne Airport. It's near a lot of good places to eat and plenty of parking. Staff is friendly, which is always a huge plus. They have a huge selection of comics and other nerdy things. They carry some figures and trading cards. They actually had the comic that I was looking for, since my go to shop bas been sold-out of stuff in advanced. It's good to see that they are well stocked. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area

I was in the Irvine area and was in the search of comic book stores on a Sunday. Thanks to Yelp. I was successful. Located in a office business center, I found Alakazam Comics. First impressions were that the store was put together very well. With newer comics and kid's books up front. Then farther you go back. You run into graphic novels and trades, back issues and then finally $1 to $2 boxes. Finding particular comic books were very easy. I ended up picking a bunch of issues from every part of the store. I left there with a nice stack. Having plenty of new super hero reading material that should occupy me for weeks. Overall a good comic book store. Plenty of variety for all ages. They definitely had a good selection of comics that I enjoy. Support local businesses especially the good ones. Alakazam Comics is great.

Probably the most reliable comic book shop I've ever been to. If I ever find myself in LA in need for comics, I'm coming here.

Do they sell any comic art?

It's rare but occasionally they do. I know of at least one well known artist who considers this his home store and I have bought an original sketch cover from him directly but sold through the store. It's a good shop and Marco the owner used to be… Read more

Maybe it's the proximity of this particular location to Japanese businesses or perhaps there's just…read moresomething about this part of OC, but I found this Bookoff to be a delight. Sure, the parking can be hectic sometimes. After all, there is a Tokyo Central right next to it, but that's what makes this location so good. You can spend hours perusing the aisles for some good finds but can take a break and get some Pocky or a bento or a Fanta nearby without ever breaking theme. What's even better is it feels like the employees enjoy working here. They greet you warmly when you walk in and that hospitality Japan is known for is reflected in this staff, even if they aren't Japanese and this isn't Japan; the spirit still carries. So does the nostalgia walking through the aisles. If you played video games throughout the 90s to now you'll see pieces of your childhood everywhere you look: a Super Famicom with Chrono Trigger for sale or a Vegeta action figure going Super Saiyan or the many mangas of Rumiko Takahashi such as Ranma 1/2 or Inuyasha. In encapsulates otaku culture through the ages well. Even looking for books of different genres and authors can be found, some new but most used. It doesn't mean they aren't good. It just means they're pre-loved. This means you can get a bargain for some books you might have been meaning to check out for a great price. They also have book sales all the time. If you feel a need to lighten your collection at home, whether it be action figure or games you no longer play, Bookoff buys them from you. It means your cash could go even further if you have things to sell. Though the size of Bookoffs in America does have me wishing they were larger like their Japanese counterparts they do pack quite a lot for the space they occupy. You can spend 15 minutes to multiple hours here, depending on what you're looking for. I say that means it's worth checking out. After all, the worst that can happen is if you don't find anything to tickle your fancy you can always go to Tokyo Central or IKEA right after.

I love this spot. It's one of the OGs, and I've been coming here for a long time. There are some…read moregenuinely great finds--plenty of $1 items, solid deals on DVDs, and every once in a while something really special slips through the cracks. That said, the pricing is all over the place. It's obvious they rely heavily on some kind of algorithm to assign value, and when it works in your favor, it really works. I've picked up items worth hundreds of dollars for a few bucks. But the flip side is rough--things priced at $100 that you could easily find for $10-15 elsewhere. That inconsistency is both the magic and the frustration. Selling to them is another story. They'll give you next to nothing unless it's something truly high-end, and even then, you're usually better off selling elsewhere. The margins are so far off at times that it really makes you wonder who's willing to take those deals. They do require ID and seem to follow the rules, but the reality is this kind of setup attracts people who either don't know what they have, don't care, are impatient, or are desperate. And yes, it also likely attracts people unloading stolen goods because they know the items are valuable, even if the payout is low. The store itself is very DIY. Nothing is cataloged, staff can't really help you with inventory, and what you see is what's available. Customer service is minimal--they're mostly focused on sorting and loss prevention. There's also an awkward dynamic between management and floor staff that you can feel when you're in there. At the end of the day, this place is a gamble. Sometimes you walk out feeling like you scored big. Other times you find something rare and exciting that's priced so high it might as well be untouchable. It almost screams desperation and lack of knowledge on the selling side--but ironically, that's exactly what brings in so much good stuff. If you know what you're doing and have patience, this place can be incredible. If not, it'll just feel chaotic.

To be honest, dear reader, I am not an avid comic book reader! While I do enjoy the superhero…read moremovies that come along each year, and I do casually read certain runs, or listen to explanations of certain comics via Comics Explained, I do not keep up with this medium as consistently as I do with Video Games. The only run that I have kept up with on a consistent basis is the Sonic the Hedgehog comics, both the Archie run (slightly before Ian Flynn would take over) and the IDW run as I am a huge fan of Sonic. Due to this, I do like to visit a comic book store every once-in-a-while, and this is my #1 spot! I found out about this nice little spot back in 2006 or 2007 as after learning about the Archie run via the Sonic Mega Collection, I wanted to start reading these comics. I noticed this place from time to time in my family's travels to Bellflower and asked my Mother to take me one day. I stopped going for a long time, not because of any specific negative reason, but just because they stopped selling the Sonic run. Since Sonic is the only comic book that I read, I had no reason to return. I did find out about places like Pulp Fiction, but I found that the customer service was consistently not up to par and eventually stopped going. Last year, during Free Comic Book Day, I wanted to stop by a Comic Book Store in order to pick up some of the free comic books. I first went to Amazing Comics & Cards, but found the selection to be very limited and a similar problem of the customer service being poor. I went here after so long to see if they were participating in Free Comic Book Day, and luckily enough, they were! Going in, it is still majorly organized as I remember way back when, but just now with more Graphic Novels and Manga. One thing that I can always say is the best about this place is the customer service. When I went to Free Comic Book Day, they gave people a list of what was available and crossed out any that were not available, they allowed an individual to get way more comics than the previous store I went to (like 5 comics in comparison to 2 or 3), and when I was conflicted on which comic to get, they just allowed me to have both. Not only this, the main guy at the cash register, I never got his name, but is an older white gentleman that usually wears a cap, is always nice and helpful. I don't remember him from years ago, but immediately from our first interaction, he has the best personality. Easy to talk to and start up a conversation, and leaves a definite positive impression after stepping out of the store. And this isn't just one interaction, I had been going from time to time in 2025, and the attitude was always solid. They never seem to run out of the comics that I am looking for and just generally seem to be great spot hidden away in the Bellflower area. In all, from what I remember back in the mid-to-late 2000s and recently, I give them 5 stars. A great place for comic readers and worthy of being one of my favorite spots to stop by when I am in the mood of purchasing a comic.
