A small restaurant just across the street from the train station, Al Narjise seems to get just enough lunch time traffic to keep the five or so tables full without having people wait.
I had the lamb shwarma plate, which came with a generous portion of lamb, rice with lentils, veggies, and pita on the side. I usually don't like the side salad at middle eastern restaurants because it always comes out limp and sad as if it was an afterthought, but the salad here was actually really fresh. I found myself almost finishing the whole salad before going on to the main attraction. I would describe the rice as "subtle" if you like weak flavors, and "bland" if you like a kick. I gravitate towards weak, so it as fine for me. The good thing about the meat was that there was a lot of it--I think it was the first time in Geneva so far that I've left a good portion of food on my plate. The bad thing bout the meat was that it wasn't very good. The texture was a bit dry, and it didn't have the juicy aftertaste of lamb that I like.
All in all it was a pretty satisfactory meal for CHF15, service was efficient, and presentation was very good (which is important for me). I would probably be a regular if the meat had been a bit more impressive. read more
