When you're at the airport, and you're bored before your flight, what do you do? You wander around…read morethe stores and spend money that you probably shouldn't spend. I wanted to get a bottle water, and a book just incase the inflight entertainment on my transatlantic flight back to Calgary didn't work. Knowing my luck if I'm not prepared with a book that's what would happen and the other book I had with me I was almost finished. So I bought a bottle of flavoured water because for some reason it was cheaper than regular water. I also bought Pride & Prejudice because I've wanted to read that book for a while, even though I could check it out from my local library for free. The total was 9 euros, and the book was only 5 euros, so that's a really pricey bottle of water. I should have brought an empty bottle of water to fill up at the fountains after security instead. The guy working at the checkout seemed to be a pretty pissy mood and was coughing, so maybe he was just sick and grumpy. Definitely not a good first impression of this store. On the plus side when I was there they had on a song from Billy Talent, a Canadian punk-rock band I didn't think was known outside of Canada. It reminded of home and was nice to hear. So the music in the store is good, but the prices are way too high and the staff aren't that great. Try not to spend your money at the airport. Unless you have a ton of change you want to get rid of or you just don't care.

The goods sold are surplus or slightly damaged, so do not expect the full range of a well-stocked bookstore. But what is lacking in variety, Jokers makes up in price. If you are looking for a gift, this might be the right place for books (small paperbacks to large coffee table volumes), CDs (music and audio books) and DVDs. However, if it is meant to be a present, make sure that it is not one with Mängelexemplar stamped in large letters on the cover (it means faulty, with [small] imperfections). You can, after all, find books here that don't cry cheap and discount. Oh yes, and they do have a section of English books as well.

Few people are likely to find this little record shop by chance, being as it is tucked away off…read moreSachsenhausen's main thoroughfares. But In Between is well worth going out of your way for if you're a music nut of any description. Note that In Between only sells used records. It's a pleasant shop, but with that slightly chaotic element you would expect: Records and CDs in racks and boxes, with a pretty good selection of merchandise in all genres. Jazz is particularly well represented, especially on vinyl, and there's some good classical music here, too. Add to which rock, indie etc. You're bound to find something if you come with an open mind, even if things sometimes seem a little hard to find. The prices are OK; although some of the vinyl seems a bit expensive to me, it's on a par with the other shops in Frankfurt, and there really is scarcely any junk to wade through. Instead, there's a selection of some really quite unusual but excellent music. There are quite a few reasonably-priced DVDs to be had, too. There's a nice little reading and listening corner at the back of the shop, too.

Head down the stairs and go straight on. If you hit the wall, you've gone too far. You'll only find the latest best sellers, or some of the classics, along with a few children's books, but if you, like me, enjoy leafing through a book, rather than buying online, then it's a nice place to go. That said, they often move things around, and that's annoying. They have a good ordering service, and do gift vouchers. They aren't like gift vouchers in the UK, you can only use them in this shop.

Usually cashiers look dead and bored in the job, but not here. You almost always see them laughing which makes it all the more welcoming.
