The gate agent with too much make-up and not enough hair refused to allow me to have a carry on and a personal item. I was forced to smash and break all of the beautiful gifts I purchased for friends and family back home to roll up my small personal item and shove into my 55cm. I offered to purchase a second seat for 300 euros to accommodate my one additional piece of luggage and was told I still would still only be allowed the one piece. Wow! Handling agent/gate agent reassigned my seat because I argued with her. I was seated 35 E right between the bathroom and the engine. Literally the window was blocked by an engine... The seat was worse than cancer. The MD80 aircraft reeked of urine and was absolutely, disgustingly filthy. There had to be some type of health violation there. Might be the worst airline I've flown. Update: Yes, in fact this is the worst airline I've flown. We have arrived nearly two hours late in Rome due to technical problems... maybe if they weren't using McDonald Douglass planes built in 1979... we've been waiting to deplane now for 30 minutes due to inability to open cabin door... it's broken. Please go out of business soon.

First of all I never heard of economy LIGHT. SECOND, I tried to buy a checked bag before leaving by 3 days and the website does not work. I called their number in Italy, USA and Whatsapp and no one even answered. Then I get to the airport and I get hot with $60 for a small bag that's basically 1 cm over. The very "lovely" gentlemen in Cairo overcharged me in dollars too. Instead of taking the online exchange rate of 50 Euros which is $56, they took $60. I showed them my screenshot of their dysfunctional website and they still didn't care. I said this is the the worst airline I've ever been on and the employee who called himself the manager, said "don't fly it again". Just stay away.
Have you ever heard of an airline that, if you miss a connecting flight because your transoceanic flight was 2.5h late, makes you buy a second, new ticket? Here's one: Meridiana Flight. If you need to go to Olbia from Rome Fiumicino, Meridiana is your one and only option. Sadly, having the monopoly and facing zero competition translates in a series of disservices. In fact, the disservice starts as soon as you book your flight through their web site: at the end of the booking process, you will get an error message and won't receive your ticket. You will have to call Meridiana, where you will be told that the booking appears in their system. Only then the operator will be able to issue your ticket and reservation number by email. If, after having received the first error message, you try to book your flight again via their web site, you will end up with multiple tickets. Unfortunately this is a bug in their system that exists since Meridiana first launched their web site. In non-fly-pass economy class the cost of the ticket does not include luggage, which costs 10 euros for the first luggage, and 55 euros for the second one. At least three times my luggage did not reach Olbia. The luggage will be on another flight from FCO that same day, but if you happen to be traveling during the weekend, Meridiana will not deliver your luggage: you will have either to wait until Monday, or to go back to the airport to collect the luggage yourself. If you fly Meridiana, I cannot recommend strongly enough that you buy travel insurance.

Flight no. IG901 from Malpensa to JFK on September 18th, 2019. I politely suggested to a flight attendant that it would have been useful to explain to the passengers why the plane had been circling the tarmac for more than 30 minutes after landing without reaching the gate. The lady reacted to my comment in an extremely improper way, assaulting ASSAULTING verbally, SLAMMING the overhead compartment and saying that I "should be quiet and GO TO"...I hesitate to tell you where. As an American citizen, I am not used to being treated like this by flight attendants, especially after the airplane had circled around the airport for so long without the passengers being informed about what was happening. The lady not only reacted in this shameful way but when I asked her to show me her name tag, SHE COVERED IT, saying that was no reason for me to see it. This is contrary to the company's regulations since the name tag should always be visible. Things became even more surreal when the attendant called the captain, who approached me with a prosecutorial attitude instead of trying to understand the point of view of a passenger, a client and above all a polite person like myself. The captain started off from the assumption that the client was wrong just because the client had permitted himself to point out the bad manners of the flight attendant. The client should have received his apologies for having been treated so badly but instead I WAS ATTACKED a second time, to the point that the captain even permitted himself to threaten to call the police if I uttered another word. Unheard of. A clear case of abuse of power. The event shook me considerably, I got off the plane feeling very nauseous, I was speechless. I consider it unheard of that a passenger can be treated in this manner. The client is not an adversary to take one's frustrations out on. The client should be listened to and understood so that eventually he finds himself in the position of remembering his flight experience as a positive one. Not a traumatic one. After having been treated this way, I truly have no intention of getting onto the return flight that I have already purchased with air italy. I WROTE SEVERAL LETTERS TO THE AIRLINE. NO RESPONSE. I'm attaching an image of the flight attendant in question who did not comply with the regulations of the airline by continuing to keep her name tag covered. read more

This is in regards to a Business Class flight that my fiance and I flew on 25 April 2019 from MPX to JFK. We paid for an upgrade under the assumption that we would be able to receive two things: rest and relaxation. After all, we flew business from JFK to MPX and it was wonderful (aside from no WiFi...). Both of us needed to return to work right after getting off of this flight. Our thinking (as was in the case of other business or first class flights we had taken) was that the upgrade would be well worth it. How sorely mistaken we were. A family of 5 had purchased seating diagonally from us, which wasn't the problem. The issue at hand was how little the parents tried to console their 1 or 2-year-old child who was probably in uncomfortable from the variable pressure of flying. The crew did nothing, said nothing, and this child cried bloody murder straight for at LEAST 7 of the 8.5 hour flight straight (not an exaggeration--this kid was hitting its mother in the face a few times too). I was appalled just because it isn't cheap to fly business class, and I understand that you can't just "kick someone out" but the parents nor the crew apologized for the situation. There was also no working WiFi AGAIN. So we couldn't sleep, we couldn't work, and headphones blaring could barely tune this screaming out. If there was some accountability SOMEWHERE, I'd probably not write this review, but it gets a bit worse. I tried to call Air Italy and ended up on the phone with "Alex". From the get-go, you can tell that this is someone who doesn't like her job and/or people. I calmly explained to her that I'm empathetic to the situation for the family (even though they didn't seem to care for the rest of us...), but feel that the crew and/or airline should be apologetic to the rest of the folks in the cabin that had to endure this since (again) it isn't cheap to fly business, and it is typically an upgrade people take to spare themselves from this sort of thing. Alex verbally cut me off the entire time to the point where I had no choice but to hang up, not seeing my perspective on anything or even offering a partial refund/voucher. I'm by no means a pretentious or entitled person, but I do feel that if I'm paying a premium for something I want what I paid for. If you want to fly Business, just pay the extra for Delta/Alitalia. read more

Absolute disaster, JFK to Malpensa and Malpensa to JFK was 3 to 4 hours late each leg. We missed our connection from JFK to Milan and sat around the airport for 6 hours only to be bused to the other Milan airport for our flight. Business class section of the plane was dirty, food was good, plane staff pleasant BUT gate and check-in were 3rd world bad. Everyone at the gate is newly employed and in Italy (unlike in US) the gate agents don't work for the airline. Gate agents work for the airport so client service is akin to TSA treatment or worse for its flyers. My advice is pay the extra money to not fly Air Italy especially, if you require a connection in Italy. The most important advice that I can give you is that if you decide to fly Air Italy, NEVER EVER leave your US based airport if you know that you will miss your connecting flight in Italy. YOU MUST get that squared away before you leave US soil otherwise you will wait in multiple lines and get no answers or try to call the service line to be cut off multiple times. They will tell you that it's handled in Italy but do not believe a word that they say.. RESIST & INSIST. read more

We reserved 4 seats together in row 10, which is directly behind the wall separating business class from economy. We paid $80 extra per seat (each way) for these seats because it gave us a little extra room. We checked in online for our return trip and obtained our boarding passes with the correct seats; however, when we checked our bags they gave us new boarding passes with different seats (row 16) so we lost our extra room. They said they gave our seats to another family with baby who needed a bassinet. This was after over an hour of waiting in three different lines to check our bags. When we finally boarded we saw that the people they gave our seats to were a couple and a toddler (about 3 years old). They had no bassinet. I love kids, but we selected and paid extra for these seats. It was a 10 hour flight and the seats in economy have very, very little space. The outgoing flight was also 2.5 hours late even though the plane was at the gate almost that entire time. I asked if there was a problem with the plane, and they sold no, they were just getting the plane ready. The return flight also left about an hour late. The lines to check in/check baggage are also very long and confusing. We waited in a line that said "economy web check-in". When we got half way to the front a lady said the sign was wrong and this was for people who had not already checked in online. I asked if we could just stay there since we had already waited so long. She said no, and told us to go in a[this other much longer lines which she said would move quicker. So we waited in that line about 30 minutes and when we got to the very front the guy told us that we needed to go to another line because we were flying to Miami. There were no signs identifying any lines for international travel. So we then had to go to the back of our third line and wait another 20-30 minutes. The service on the plane was good though. Airlines, dear god please give us a little more room in economy! read more

I flew Air Italy and had a wonderful experience. I'm a very nervous flyer and the Flight Attendants were amazing. Diego C. and Vincenzo R. on IG 902 [July 14, 2018] were outstanding and have made me more confident to fly again. As a whole, the service on Air Italy is great, the aircraft was clean and new and the flight was an excellent experience. I would fly Air Italy again and encourage others to fly it also. Keep up the good work! read more

You even don't want you enemy to try this Air line ! SO BAD before the flight that I had to cancel and pay a hefty penalty. Don't truest what they say on their web. Reserved for a flight from Los Angeles to Palermo, Sicily via Milan. Paid Extra for Premium Class, so that I could make changes and get a refund if I had to cancel. Next day I found out that I should have gone to the other airport in Sicily - Catania. Back on line -- the change option DOES not work-- It is a VERY BAD WEBSITE. Called the 800 number-- after a long wait they said that they can not help and I had to call Italy ! Called Italy call center, and even though I had bough Premium, only to be able to change and Had paid total of $3,300 which INCLUDED $400 for Exit Row Seat selection, 2 tickets, and all I was doing was a change of airport that tickets was even less expensive than Palermo, I was denied the change-- They said the premium change allowance was only for a DATE change ! They said I can only Cancel , Pay a $ 240 cancellation fee, and pay another $400 for getting the exit Row seats, since they would NOT REFUND OR KEEP MY PAID SEATS ON THE PREVIOUS BOOKING . THIS MEANS THEY WOULD SELL THOSE SEATS AGAIN AND GET MONEY. THAT MEANT A TOTAL OF $1,040 additional COST FOR JUST CHANGING AN ARRIVING AND DEPARTING AIRPORT WHICH ARE BOTH IN SICILY. AND COST ABOUT THE SAME if not less ON A NEW TICKET. CRAZY AND HIGHWAY ROBBERY Another call had the same result - Have to say that the agents were PLEASANT and courteous. Since Flying to Palermo would have caused a 3-4 hour waste of time each direction and 400 EURO's each direction by car-- and by now after reading the flight experiences of other passengers that were miserable, I decided to cancel . The Web site cancellation was Not Responding. Another call to Italy and the total cost of cancelling was 240 fee+ 400 seat assignment+ 56 in fees !!!!-- $650 - AIR ITALY GIVES A BAD NAME TO FLYING AND ITALY. read more

1. I filed a claim as soon as I noticed the damage at the my luggage at the Miami airport. 2. I called AirItaly several times within the first week to have updates and left dozen of messages on the voicemail since nobody ever answered. 3. I received the claim number one month later, without any instructions on how to proceed. 4. A week later I asked for updates and I was asked to file a claim online. 5. They denied my reimbursement because according to the art. 31 of the Convention of Montreal a complain must be filed within 7 days. 6. I reply that I did file the complain right there at the airport and I attached a copy of it. 7. They stopped answering my emails and phone calls. I am pretty confident that this is a fraud. Avoid to travel with Air Italy! read more
I wish I could leave zero stars. This airline is a legit scam and I would avoid it at all costs. We recently tried to add a second piece of luggage (vost: 65 Euro) through their website but it kept erroring out. We took screenshots and after several failed attempts we decided to check in our second bag at the airport in Milano Linate. Upon arrival, we found out to our great disappointment that there is no Air Italy desk in Milano and we had to pay 85 Euros to add our second piece of luggage. Mind you, we had to pay 20 Euros more because their website was not working as it should have and when we reached out to their customer service we received an unapologetic email. read more

NEVER EVER FLY WITH MERIDIANA. Long story short, this fares may be cheap, but the airline would suck every single penny out of you, unreasonably, and unethically. I was charged 58 euros to check in my carry-on suitcase because the staff insisted my 'personal item' was too big while not giving me exact measurements of what was allowed and what wasn't. I had already flown twice before the flight and never had to check in any luggage. The staff did not suggest that I repack my stuff or find a way to avoid the extra charge, but instead, found every single excuse to make me pay, threatening that they would not issue boarding pass if I weren't willing to pay. What was worse was that after I boarded, more than half of the flight was empty (other people were smarter than I was to avoid them); so there wasn't really the question of not having enough room for my 'oversized' personal item. My roundtrip ticket between Naples and Santorini was just over 40 euros and I paid 58 euros for the check-in luggage. Go figure. I could've flown from Venice to Santorini straight for that price. So please, save yourself the trouble and fly with a different airline. Meridiana is not worth ruining your holiday for. read more

* minor note (added in 2018): Meridiana has been rebranded as Air Italy * - - - - - Meridiana is a ho-hum airline. Period. Clearly, being a low-cost carrier, they typically have better fares than Alitalia within Italy, though Alitalia occasionally runs some decent on-line offers, often configured as round-trips. Whether on the ground or in the air, Meridiana is completely unremarkable. I haven't had problems with them in terms of late flights, lost luggage, or pricing. However, the few stars are deducted for their general blandness, the fact that they are not hooked up with any airline alliance that makes through ticketing easier, and for the elimination of service from both of Sicily's airports, Palermo and Catania, to Florence. They don't even go from Sicily to Pisa, from which it's an easy 40 minute train ride to Florence directly from the airport. Those 9 am +/- flights from Sicily up to Florence were a constant ... for years. Idiots. read more

Hands down the worst flight I have ever been on. The air plane was hot the whole flight, if the person in front of you pushed their seat back you could not put your shoes on to go to the bathroom, you were squished like sardines. There was a medical emergency on the flight. It's a cheap flight yes and it gets you from point A to point B, but it was the worst 8 hours ever. I've taken long flights in my life, but never as bad as this one. If you are looking for a reason not to use this airline this is it. Splurge and go with Alitalia, you will regret booking this airline. read more

Air Italy cancelled 15 days before our flight. They offered another flight that was irrelevant for us and almost 3 days after the original flight. They did not offer any other options or compensation. They were not halpful at all when we called to ask for other solutions. It is an embarrassment and a shame that there are still Airlines nowadays that still work in those standards. read more

Air Italy is by far the worst airline you can fly on. I can only speak about their New York/JFK airport and Italy call center employees, but those employees were incompetent, rude and completely uncaring. I was denied entry at the gate at JFK due to the 6 month validation rule on passports which is related to the Schengen treaty. I have never traveled internationally before so I did not know about this beforehand. I accept responsibility for that. However, their employees were rude to me, refused to give me their names (even going so far as to hide their name badges from me) and refused to let me speak to a manager to complain about the way I was treated. I would also point out that nowhere on the booking section of the website is the 6 month validation rule for passports mentioned. I have screenshots. And on the one section of the site that does mention the Schengen Treaty, it does not mention the 6 month validation rule. It only mentions the incredibly vague requirement that I'll quote here: "As the flights between the Schengen Countries are classified as International flights, all passengers travelling to and from these countries are required to provide a valid passport or ID card on departure. Passengers who are citizens of such countries and reside there on a permanent basis, are permitted to travel within the Schengen Area without a visa, on the condition they provide a valid passport and residency card. Residency cards are not classified as valid travel documents and must be presented along with a valid passport in order to travel." Nowhere is it mentioned as to what constitutes a valid passport. I took the extra step of reaching out to the Italian Consulate before this trip and this was also not mentioned to me. My point is that my passport was not expired and none of their employees flagged me in any of these 3 cases: 1. Before I bought the tickets on their website. 2. Before I received my boarding passes at the airport 3. Before they started boarding the plane since I spoke one of the employees at the gate an hour before boarding began and she asked to see my boarding pass and passport. With this information in hand, it is reasonable that I would assume that my unexpired passport was in fact valid under their vague criteria and the lack of obstacles I encountered up until the flight started boarding. When I called their international call center in Italy, it was even worse. The call center employee repeatedly told me that they couldn't give me a refund and refused to let me speak to a manager. This was unacceptable. Never fly with Air Italy. They are the worst airline and they do not care about their customers read more

The worst experience with an airline EVER and I have flown all over the world. Booked a flight from JFK to Malpensa - arrived at JFK late because of gate closures from a bad thunderstorm and lightening. Missed my connecting flight via Air Italy - when I got in touch with them to be put on their next flight they wanted me to buy a WHOLE NEW TICKET - even though it was completely out of my control missing this connection. I couldn't believe after spending the money I did to get to Italy and had people waiting for me in Italy, etc., so I HAD NO choice but to pay an extra $600 just to get to my destination. I have missed connections before and NEVER in my life had to buy another ticket, especially when the missed connection was of NO fault of mine. My prior flight could NOT land because the gates were closed! I have complained and complained to them and not only have they not offered any compensation or help, they have been rude. I was told by Department of transportation to please contact them regarding Air Italy and all the issues as they are the regulatory institution and they need to know how awful this airline is. Please submit your complaints to Air Italy as I feel this company is disastersous! read more

Do you like garbage and being treated like garbage? Well I have an airline for you. Let me count the ways Air Italy is the worst airline I've ever flown and deeply regret booking. The website and app simply don't work. You can't check in or pay for bags or pick a seat or do anything really. And yes, you have to pay for your bags even on international travel. I've never had to pay for bags on an international flight. How much? $100 each way. You can save if you pay in advance. But remember, there's no actual way to pay in advance because the website, app, and customer service lines are unavailable. I called the "24 hour" phone numbers and no one answered. I chatted on Facebook and their answers were rude and unhelpful. Somehow their airport and crew are even ruder. They even refused to pick up my trash while on flight telling me that it wasn't their job. Wow. I'm only halfway through my trip and I can't imagine how it could get worse. The plane was only about 1/6 full and now I see why. You won't be saving any money by booking this airline so save yourself time, money, and a lot of anger and frustration and AVOID this airline at all costs. read more

Terrible experience. First, they started boarding 10 minutes before we were supposed to depart. Then they continued to take another HOUR to move people around. They clearly weren't prepared. When I finally thought that we were finally going to be leaving, the plane stops abruptly. There's a defect. Now we all have to sit down for another 3 hours (as if 10 more hours wasn't enough) to get them to fix it. Not only was this terrible but I haven't slept for 2 days almost because of my flights and this is the last thing that I needed to happen. I wouldn't recommend going on this airline, I'm seriously worried about if I'm going to return back to my family and I'm praying that I will. No passenger should have to feel this way while on a plane. read more

This is hands down the worst airline I have ever flown before! One of the woman Stewards, spilled soda all over me, while trying to hand 2cups in one hand. This was in the beginning of our 10 hour flight from Naples, Italy To Nyc. Mistakes happen all the time don't get me wrong, But what was so rude was that she didn't even care!! Gave me 1 little napkin to even try and help me clean myself & the my iPad and other remaining things. Then throughout the flight she kept bumping my elbows got some reason.. Flight 3940... She had short hair & red lipstick.. The plane itself was very very run down & uncomfortable. Smelled extremely bad & very bad poor air circulation. I'm in customer service as well and this team obviously needs better customer service skills. Update your plane. My first & last time flying with this Meridiana. read more

I would rate this airline lower than 1 star if I could. I booked an outbound flight from JFK NYC. I purchased Economy class tickets and NOT Economy Light. They still charged me $100 for first checked bag (which was 18 Kg, well below the 23 Kg limit). Checked bags are not allowed when traveling with an Economy Light ticket and not Economy Class ticket. There was a rude Italian woman in the ground staff who did not help me with any claim and gave me the number to a call center, where nobody ever picks up the phone. She was not helpful at all. I have called 3 times now and left voicemails to dispute the charge but nobody returns my calls or emails me. Please do not fall for the random deals that popup in Google Flights because this airline is horrible. While the flight pilots may be great, there ground staff is horrible, their air hostesses and flight stewards are horrible, their food sucks too, they wake you up when you are sleeping to ask if you are in the right seat or not (they weren't taught anything about hospitality or good manners in aviation school I guess) and they have no intention to help you in any way. So if you see cheap flight tickets with this airline, add additional $200 to your round-trip because no matter how cautious you are, they will find a way to charge you additional baggage fees and then you will never be able to reach them to dispute the charges because their call center doesn't return calls and their website is BARELY FUNCTIONAL. I couldn't even submit a complaint through their website because none of their "Submit" buttons work. read more

I couldn't figure out how to give zero stars, but they deserve it.Alitalia used to be the worst airline across the board in terms of age of planes, horrific phone and in-terminal customer service, flights delays, can't be bothered flight attendants , etc. etc. Meridiana makes Alitalia look like Virgin Airlines. Meridiana is the absolute worst in all categories. I am utterly stunned that a company can continue to remain in business with the level of ineptitude that this company operates with. I will say that the flight attendants were perfectly average, which is a bright spot on their report card. But in every single other category that are the worst. and I have had multiple flights with them (last week was my 4th (and last) trans-atlantic flight) I will never fly with them again. read more

Horrible! This was the first time I flew to Italy. My friend and I used this airline because they go nonstop to Naples and Alitalia doesn't. It was an old, scary looking airplane. The tv screens were few and far between, not behind the seats as in other planes. Some were defective. We couldn't see or hear what we tried to watch. The service was dreadful. The food was nothing to write home about either. Next time I will fly Alitalia to Rome and get a connecting flight to Naples even if it takes all day. This so called "convenience" of nonstop to Naples was really not worth it. Meridiana has a great safety record, but I this may be sheer luck. read more

Merdiana is an awful, awful airline and should not be allowed to be in operation. First, they downgraded me and my husband from our first class seats to coach (worst of all-, it was on our honeymoon) because they overbooked the flight. Then, four hours into the flight, the toilets stopped working...literally wouldn't flush and were overflowing. It was disgusting. The plane turned around and did an emergency landing in Lisbon (an hour and half in the direction we just came from). After sitting on the tarmack for 2.5hrs, the pilot announces the plane is now going to fly back to Naples (our origination) and try to fly out again the next day. He told passengers that wanted to get off the plane and not fly back to Naples, that they would take our checked bags off the plane and give them to us. Except when we got off with 15 other passengers, Merdiana never took the bags off and flew back to Naples with them. When we called the airline, we sat on hold for 30+ min multiple times, got hung up on and just got told they "don't track bags". We had to buy extra nights of hotels, clothes/toiletries and another flight home because of this airline. And worst of all, we still haven't received a dollar of the refund we're entitled to from Merdiana, and they haven't even responded to our emails/calls. Do not waste your time with this airline. Horrible experience with air Italy. My flight was apparently "overbooked" and they cancelled my flight without my knowledge. I reached Milan only to find out that my connecting flight was two days later. Obviously, I didn't have a visa or anything because my halt was suppose to be 2hrs not 2 days. Anyway would not recommend. They were not helpful at all and showed utter disrespect. It was my first time traveling alone and thanks to air Italy it was nothing short of a nightmare. Haven't seen this extent of unprofessionalism anywhere. Just money making machines who don't give a crap about you. read more

Air Italy is a terrific airline!Just flew Naples to JFK June 2. Awesome staff...great new planes with entertainment at your seats...comfy...clean...great food...only drawback have to fly through Milan...not my favorite. Will fly them all the time but will stop and rest in Milan. Very impressive crew. Pilot landings smooth! They I predict will be the best airline in Europe! read more

By far the worst airline I have ever flown. Is the flight cheap? Yes. Is it worth it? Probably not. It is September 2018 and the heat was on so high that I was sweating and nauseous the entire time. I told them that I was extremely uncomfortable... they put the air on for 5 minutes and then turned it back off. I have asthma and allergies and basically couldn't breathe for 8 hours. They ran out of the meals we requested for both dinner and breakfast so we had to eat the other option. Our connecting flight from Milan to Rome was delayed 1.5 hours and no one apologized or said anything about the flight being delayed. No compensation for the large delay either. Seats are small and extremely uncomfortable. Flight attendants are rude and seem to favor Italian natives over all other passengers. Definitely do not recommend. read more

Horrible, Horrible airlines. I have been traveling around the world and I have never ever experienced this type of customer service. Website - very difficult to use. Unable to ask for special diets. You have to email the company and still I did not receive any special diets on my flight. They charge you 1. to web check in 2. to select your seats ahead of time. Airlines JFK to Naples Flight # 3941- very small seating, absolutely no entertainment available for coach fyers. You have to upgrade to business which starts at $70E per person, however if the options is available. There was an altercation on the flight over between an American women and an Italian male. The American women had reclined her seat while the young boy behind her preceded to kick it. She had ask the young boy to stop nicely and he did. About an hour later the father comes and switches seats with the child and proceeds to punch the back of the chair of the American women. Yelling and screaming at her in Italian. He does want her to recline her chair and tells her to book in business if she wants to do that. The flight attends don't really do anything and then decided to issue a warning ticket to the American!!!! The pilot then comes on and says that we are going to be landed and probably early and "OH by the way the airport doesn't open until 7:30 am so it might be a wait" What are you kidding, so yup we landed and had to wait about an hour to get out!!!!!!!!!!!! They food service and beverage service is absolutely horrible. No beverages left out during the flight so you have to go all the way in the back to ask for water. Wine, forget about it, they wont give any additional. The flight attendance came around twice. Once for dinner and one for breakfast (which was a cookie and juice) Let me remind you that this is a 9+ hour flight. Never seen them again. Airline NAP to JFK - Lets start with the 1 hour delay. Then I had upgraded us to the business class to get some entrainment options and OH the TV screens in the head rest are NOT functional!!!!!!!!!!! so I upgraded for nothing, again no entrainment options what so ever. The website states that you will be given an Ipad, that is a lie. The food and beverage service was the same as the flight over. However this time I was more prepared and brought my own snacks. They don't come around and offer water or anything. Do not fly on this airlines. They are not supportive of Americans, they have very very poor customer service, planes are very old and out of date read more

DONT, REPEAT DONT use this airline. If you do, you better hope that you don't need to contact them for any reason . YOU CAN'T .It has been 41 days since was luggage was lost/stolen on a flight from JFK to Naples . In all that time with REPEATED e-mails ]33] , text msgs ]8]. voice mail msgs. [18 ] I did not hear word from ANYONE @ Meridiana. Not until I filed a formal complaint with DOT/FAA in Washington did I finally get a e-mail response from them acknowledging my problem! I have sent my entire file to them and still have not heard from anyone @ Meridiana ! The word "customer service" is not in their corporate vocabulary . read more

We should have read the reviews before booking with them. To start out we had 3 flights LAX-Milan -Rome - Catania. Our first flight got delayed for 1.5 hours. Which wasn't to bad, I get it, stuff happens. The flight itself was pretty tight. No leg room, and the seats seem smaller than usual. We arrived in Milan for our second flight to find we've been delayed 6 hours. We were promised a hotel in Rome after our second flight and they would book us a flight to our final destination in Catania. Sounds alright, but when we arrived in Rome there was no one and nothing available. Everything was closed and there was no assistance. After a few hours we decided to get a hotel and try things again after we slept. We contacted the airline the next morning and they said I needed to pay $1200 for a new flight and file a claim. At this point we're stuck in Rome right now. We paid for a hotel for a few nights and we're going to take a train to our final destination since all the flights are booked for the weekend. Hopefully this helps other people out. We're pretty easy going but this was terrible. We were lied to, mislead and we've spent $750 to get to where we were supposed to be. read more

I just arrived from a trip from Air Italy Milan to Miami. Do not use this airline!!! Horrible! The flight to Milan left 2 hours late, the plane was there the whole time so no reason was given for the wait. The crew was not friendly at all and were very inpatient. They came to collect headphones without notice so when I reached for my bag to get them the stewardess just waved her hand, annoyed like never mind it was literally 5 seconds. The way home was worse. We left an hour late .We checked in online which apparently was the wrong thing to do because the line was much worse. We waited a long time in the line and then one of the workers walked down the line and said we needed to go to a different line even though the sign stated online check in. We said there's a sign and she said no, it's wrong. We asked can we just go here since we've already gone through the whole line. She insisted we couldn't and that we go to another ridiculous line she pointed to. When we finally got to the counter they said no you have to go into the other line.. when we went back to the first line the lady insisted she never told us to go there , a total lie! They had 1 or two people working each line and a problem at every one. When we finally got to the counter we found out they changed our seats that we paid an extra $80 each way per person for to have more leg room. And if we didn't say anything she wasn't going to. They said they gave it to a family with a baby so they could have a bassinet. Which after passing them to go to our seats they didn't even have a bassinet just a child about 3 years old and our extra leg room. The space in the regular coach seats was non existent. The lady in front of me threw her seat back immediately and stayed there the entire trip except when they gave food. I couldn't even bend down to get anything out of my bag and the screen was right in my face. I know this rant is long but I can't stress enough find another airline!!! read more

Uncomfortable seats, rude staff, unhealthy air (not enough air conditioning). Long wait lines at Naples airport, no where to sit. Arrived at 6:30 a.m. for an 8:50 a.m. flight and didn't even get enough time to buy myself water. Attendant refused my request for water, and a nice Italian man asked in Italian from another attendant, and I received the water. I had been sick so I needed to keep hydrated. But the insult of all was that I paid $35 for each seat and they gave my seats away. The attendant at the gate was mocking me saying she was giving me better seats (not true). We had to sit in between 2 other people, when I paid for aisle/window seats together. Don't use this airline if you can avoid it. read more

When airlines started charging for checked baggage, travelers packed lighter and only used carry On luggage to avoid fees. Some airlines, like Air Italy, decided to come up with a way to ensure more fees so they changed the size of acceptable carry on bags. We left JFK for Italy with 2 carry on bags that we have traveled with on many occasions. Both of the bags were too heavy (weight limit is only 8Kg) but we were able to redestribute so only 1 bag was overweight. We had to check that bag. So naturally we assumed we would have the same issue on the return from Italy to JFK. But no! The rules somehow changed in the 7 days of our trip. Or Air Italy perhaps does this on purpose to ensure they get to overcharge for luggage on the way back- we were not the only ones in this situation. On the way back both bags were too large size-wise to be considered carry on and we were forced to check them both and it cost 100 Euro. I do not understand how the bags could be an acceptable size traveling from JFK to Rome but suddenly be too bag from Rome to JFK. I planned to have a weight issue and made some changes to make the bags lights but I cannot do anything mid trip to make my bag smaller. The ticket counter staff simply replied that they are not responsible for what other airport staff do or say. In addition, our flight home was Rome to Milan and then Milan to JFK. We were in Venice the day before the flights and it made more sense for us to fly directly from Milan than to go back to Rome. I called customer service and they told me I had to fly from Rome and if I did not I would be considered a no show and my entire ticket cancelled. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money to fly with a real airline. read more

We booked this airline even after reading bad reviews because they were the only non-stop from Mykonos to Rome, where we were making a connection. Originally our flight was at 4:30pm, then we were informed that flight was no longer available & they booked us on the 9:30am flight. Leave our beautiful hotel & arrive at the airport at 7:45am , where we are checked in for the supposed 9:30am flight. There are no info boards at the Mykonos airport, which compounded the problem, but as a flight was boarding at our gate, we got in line & were told that was not our flight and to step away. This was around 9:00am. No one could tell us what was gong on. Phone calls went unanswered. It wasn't until 10:00 when they finally told us that they had a "mechanical problem with our plane & our flight would now depart at 4:00pm. The only compensation offered were vouchers good for water OR soda OR a sandwich, depending on who was working at the small snack bar in the very small terminal. The lack of communication & rudeness by the gate agents was ridiculous. They expected us to just sit there & wait until they had a supervisor come from "who knows where" to talk to us. So unprofessional & a waste of over 8 hours. We have traveled on many airlines & experienceed many different types of delays but none like this where they don't have anyone around to let you know what's going on, nor is their customer service line answered. Book with caution. read more

This is a follow up to previous email. This is how Air Italy responded to my request for an understanding of why they lost our tickets for different flights. They blame the loss of tickets on not having middle names for two of our 9 passengers, when tickets were purchased with Justfly. The below Italian customer service peeon (using Google translate to write her message to me) quote establishes how little they care about their business: Atn.: Mr. Piccolo: We are in reply to your email addressed to the DOT, regarding some inconveniences experienced during the check in procedures upon your departure and return from Italy, on July 5th and 23rd, 2019. The tickets issued for Antonio Stephen ### and Pasquale Vincent ### PNR- E8C5F were issued by JUSTFLY.com, who remains the primary entity for any changes to the tickets. The Call Center in Italy contacted JUSTFLY to change the return date from July 22nd to July 23rd, since flight IG902 of July 22nd, 2019, had been cancelled. JUSTFLY rebooked the two passengers assigning both a new ticket number and worse yet, eliminating both second names. Quote ( from the Call Center in Italy) The ticket number for Lia/Antonio Stephen and Lia/Pasquale Vincent are the same, the only difference is that the middle name is missing. The travel agency made the exchange from the original tkt, and the new tkt number are below ETKT 1917327199258 ##/PASQUALE CPN FROM/TO FLT DATE TIME CLS STATUS SELECT ASSOC 1 JFK MXP IG 902 05JUL19 2030 B OPEN FOR USE _ N 2 MXP SUF IG 675 06JUL19 1725 P OPEN FOR USE _ N 3 SUF MXP IG 672 23JUL19 0930 P FLOWN _ N 4 MXP JFK IG 901 23JUL19 1315 B FLOWN _ N ETR:PG TKT 1 OF 1 ** IG DATABASE ** 11569902/250134/T/1A/RAWPQZ/IG/E8S5F ETKT 1917327199257 ##/ANTONIO CPN FROM/TO FLT DATE TIME CLS STATUS SELECT ASSOC 1 JFK MXP IG 902 05JUL19 2030 B OPEN FOR USE _ N 2 MXP SUF IG 675 06JUL19 1725 P OPEN FOR USE _ N 3 SUF MXP IG 672 23JUL19 0930 P FLOWN _ N 4 MXP JFK IG 901 23JUL19 1315 B FLOWN _ N Upon check in for flight IG902 OF JUL 05, many difficulties were encountered with the tickets. Although all efforts were put forth by the check in counter, it was not possible to accept the two passengers( which now resulted having different names ) with the tickets they were holding and consequently did not match in the system. The best solution for the departure was to accept the passengers as GOSHOW with the original ticket numbers, while the new ones remain open for use. When it came to the return flight the same problem was encountered, all of which caused by JUSTFLY upon re-issuance of the tickets. It took some time for the Call Center to contact JUSTFLY and correct the problem for the return, reason for the delay in boarding of the two passengers. Understandably so, we can only apology for some of the inconveniences, but Air Italy did all possible to assist in this matter. Thank you for bringing it to our attention in order to have had the opportunity to clarify the difficulties in both points of departure. Thank you for contacting Air Italy. I have been trying to reach customer service for Air Italy for a week ... not exaggerating! Their website is under construction. There is one phone number for everything - other than one number for USA which is obviously the same because the same messages and music plays - on and on and on and on and on. This is the worst experience contacting an airline I have ever had. I would never fly Air Italy if I had the choice. read more
