I can not compare the prices with other services but it was really cheap comparing back home. If you consider crazy drivers and street taxis of old cars and if you are not suicidal, use this service. Also, keep in mind that their system does not 24 hours, except on the weekends. On weekdays, it is only from 6:00am to midnight. When they are running, the trams come by very frequently - roughly every 5 to 10 minutes. They also have a card called an Istanbulkart, where a single ride only costs 3.50 turkish lira.
