As a first-time parent and new DC resident, I was completely overwhelmed with the PK3 application…read moreprocess--I missed every deadline and felt like I'd dropped the ball. Desperate to give my daughter some kind of experience, I signed her up for Camp Berry, where we met Jennifer Berry, who is an absolute gem, and has been involved with The Children's House of Washington since the day they opened their doors. My daughter loved the camp so much that I decided to take a chance and ask about enrolling her in PK3 at CHOW that fall. From the moment we met Executive Director Monica Brewer and Assistant Director Valerie Valentine, we felt an instant connection. They truly listened to our concerns and welcomed us with open arms. This school is filled with so much love, fostering a nurturing environment where kids are encouraged to learn through exploration. Each child is seen as an individual, and the teachers guide them in a way that feels both personalized and engaging. I'll admit, I knew next to nothing about Montessori education going in, but I'm so glad we kept an open mind. The growth, joy, and confidence we've seen in our daughter since starting at CHOW has been remarkable. This school is a true neighborhood treasure, and I'm beyond grateful that we found it. If you're looking for a warm, hands-on, and inspiring place for your little one to grow, look no further than The Children's House of Washington!

The curriculum is exactly what my wife and I were hoping from a Montessori and a diverse group of students (and parents) from all around the world! There is a cozy feel to the class which provides individualized attention while enjoying the vitality and "kid-ness" of having a group of peers to play, play, play! We are thrilled with our son's progress in math, reading and reasoning (saying something for a 4 year-old!) and know he is getting a good foundation for learning and that learning is fun. We are looking forward to the 2017-18 school year and I am happy to discuss if you have interest.

It is expensive, but really worth it. The director, Brie, is a delight and so proactive. Mrs. Rose, Jovanna and all the teachers are so great with the kids and being able to watch them on their amazing streaming video on their app gives us a great deal of comfort. You can tell the teachers really love the jobs and the children. My wife and I could not be more happy with Everbrook!

My son started in the toddler room at around 17 months and quickly adjusted to daycare (I was amazed to see how happy he was to return on his second day, and this has continued for nearly 2 years). Health and safety was a huge priority for me, and Semillitas has excelled in this area. We appreciate the photos and updates through the app, and the really thoughtfully-planned community gatherings to celebrate important times of year. The parent-teacher conferences Semillitas holds (complete with a slide deck of photos and information on developmental milestones) are also very sweet. Semillitas has instilled a love of music and instruments in my son through daily circle time and music workshops. We've found the level of Spanish immersion to be just right for early childhood education - my son is learning Spanish but I'm still able to easily communicate with staff members in English. We look forward to him continuing his education in a bilingual setting and feel that Semillitas provided him with a great foundation for this. We've really enjoyed getting to know the other families as well. My only regret is that we didn't start our son at Semillitas sooner!

I've been taking adult open classes here for about a year and find that most evening and weekend classes tend to be crowded, so try a weekday daytime class if you can. There's street parking on Wisconsin Ave and side streets or discounted parking in the Giant Foods garage (remember to get your parking validation from the receptionist). While the faculty each have their own styles, all the ones I've taken from are top-notch instructors who were former (or are currently) professional ballet company dancers. I think I've finally figured out the five levels for adult classes, which are not as they're labeled, IMO: - Beginning 1. For dancers in their first couple years of ballet study, or who are rehabbing after not dancing for 1+ years. The teacher will explain ballet terminology. - Beginning 2. Not actually for beginners. Full barre and center combinations. - Advanced beginning. If tombe-pas de bourree-glissade-saut de chat is in your muscle memory. - Intermediate I. Dancers are doing double-plus pirouettes. Petite allegro can have jumps with beats. Combos are more intricate, challenging... and FUN! - Intermediate II. You'll see some dancers en pointe, and pros occasionally drop in. The class moves fast, where the teacher doesn't even have to fully demonstrate the combo yet everyone knows what they're doing. Fouette turns. If you're on the fence about which level to attend, I recommend trying the safer/lower level first, then moving up as you become comfortable. Overall, TWSB is a wonderful place to take ballet class in the DMV area!

I was desperately looking to secure day care for my daughter after getting word of a new job. Anyone who has kids knows how hard it is to find a good one. But I had looked into this day care before and read the good reviews on yelp, so I called. I initially only wanted to know if they had space in my daughters age group. The woman who answered the phone said she didn't know and to call the director, Ms. Zaki, the next day. I did, and lucky for me (not), Ms. Zaki answered the phone. Sweet as can be, but said she couldn't talk because she was on the floor with the babies and she would call me back in 30 mins. I gave her my name and number and I basically waited by the phone. Nothing. After about 2 hrs I called back. No one answered and the mailbox was full. The next day, I called again. Nothing. Mailbox full. So my husband and I decided to drop by. Someone answered the door and I asked to see Ms. Zaki. They went to get her and came back and said Ms. Zaki was on the phone but I should write down my name and number and she would call me as soon as she was off her call. Great! I did just that and even wrote my daughters age and the date I was hoping to have her start. (I still hadn't even been told if there was availability.) I waited all day for a call. Nothing. Next day, called again. Nothing. At this point I felt it's obviously a bad sign and decided to move on with my search. The least the director could do is return calls for people inquiring about her day care. It's rude not to. At the very least, she could have told me over the phone if there was no space for my daughter. I don't know how she runs a business like this, but I'm glad I took my search elsewhere.
