I have taken the CPR & AED course (for trainers and laypeople) twice in the last 3 years with Life…read moreRescue, and enjoyed it both times. In both cases, my instructor was Amer Tobing, and I wouldn't hesitate for a second before taking his course again when my certification expires. Although I've been CPR certified several times, Life Rescue offered more practical information than my previous certs. Amer's background as a firefighter and in emergency medical services shows, as he has a focused, no-nonsense attitude toward assessing an emergency situation and acting. He teaches us to think in a similar manner by addressing and hammering the most important things to know and remember. He also has a sense of humor, and is great at connecting with people, which makes his class more fun than I ever expected. But make no mistake: he takes his job and the subject matter very seriously, and doesn't let jokes overshadow or displace what is most important. I like how he spends a lot of time focusing on the reality of emergency situations vs. textbook scenarios, because there are some things that books won't tell you. Even though I had taken his class before, the second time around, he didn't let me off the hook if I could have performed something better. I really appreciated it, because it's sometimes the little things that can make a difference. Overall, it feels less like a class and more like practicing and discussing with a coach. I learned more each time, and further reinforced what I previously knew. I feel much more confident after having taken his course, would recommend it to anyone, and actually look forward to taking it again in the future.

Great class! I was definitely nervous taking my PALs revert after COVID but the facility was clean…read moreand the instructors were professional.

I was looking for an affordable and convenient way to get re-certified to work at a gym when I…read morestumbled across VA CPR & First Aid (certification provided through the American Heart Association). The VA CPR & First Aid website was extremely easy to navigate. The course was offered (and displayed in a calendar online) more than once on a weekend during the month making it easy for me to find a class that fit my schedule. Michelle (who taught the class) was very responsive when I asked her questions via email. I asked about dates and payment and usually got a response within 42 hours. As an instructor she was clear and friendly. The location of the course (tucked inside a commercial office space) was a doable drive from the Alexandria, VA area. If you take a course here please note there is a limited number of food options that are within walking distance (when you break for lunch). The closest place to get something to go is the Dunkin Donuts accross the street. I thought the price with the book (100 for the class, 20 for the book) was fair when compared to similar courses. I have taken the American Red Cross certification (more than once). I thought the way the American Red Cross presented the material 4 years ago to me was more hands on than the American Heart Association. Specifically, with the first aid course material. If my memory serves me correctly, I remember doing a lot more hands on demonstrations when I got certified by the American Red Cross than by the American Heart Association. In a nutshell its a good option if you need to get certified in a quick time frame and live in the northern VA area but if this is your first time getting certified specifically for first aid I would look at the American Red Cross' certification courses first.

Registered for course 2/21,2/22/26. Cancelled due to snow storm. Reacheduled for following weekend…read morebut cancelled due to lack of sign up. I was emailing "katie" regarding another course I was looking at March 7th in MD. It was listed as same wilderness first aid public course for $270. she kep emailing me that it was for scouts only despite multiple screen shots of the public listed wilderness first aid course directly ABOVE the scouts only course the same weekend. I asked my husband to look and he agreed that I was indeed looking at a public wilderness first aid 2 day course, even upon clicking on the info. I emailed back screen shots of the info and said that was what I saw. I signed up for it and immediately receive a cancellation notice and statement of non refundable! I emailed back "Why" and received a very rude email stating it was a scouts only course as stated previously. At this point, I was furious, because the website clearly listed this as a public wilderness first aid course and I had the screen shots to prove it! I sent an email stating this and thy responded saying it was a misprint and that I should look elsewhere to get my certification. Basically they were banning me after I called them out!!!! Unbelievable!!!!! I don't think I want to associate with this group anyway.

I highly recommend anyone looking for outdoor training to STAY AWAY from this company. They are…read morevery rude and not remotely dependable and will lie. Here's my experience. My friend and I signed up for a class in November of 2022 that was going to be held in March 2023. A couple of weeks before the class we received a class cancellation notice due to not having enough students. So we opted to take the same class in July. And guess what? We received another cancellation notice in early July. At this point they didn't have any dates that worked for us and I was starting to lose confidence in the company actually being able to hold this class. I opted for a refund. They claimed that they needed to send checks rather than just refund the credit card and that it would take 3-6 weeks, and possibly more to receive it. Throughout this experience they were incredibly rude. I waited 6 weeks and reached out multiple times via email and they did not respond. I called and they did not respond. I finally heard from them stating that they sent the check weeks ago and there was nothing they could do. I still do not have the refund so this is still ongoing. Rarely, if ever, has a merchant been this rude or unhelpful. And it's not as if I'm asking for a refund due to my cancellation of the class. THEY cancelled two classes and are now being completely unhelpful in providing a refund. Please, do yourself a favor and stay far away from this company. I should have read through reviews on them before booking. This doesn't appear to be an isolated incident and is a similar theme with other reviews. Lesson learned.
