I got SF vibes from Ahime - between the seats, the wood communal table, concrete walls, Aesop in the bathroom, and iPad wine list. I did see that Thomas McNaughton from my favorite SF place (flour + water) follows them on Instagram. I can also certainly see how they got a Michelin green star.
They had some interesting wines by the glass. We tried a Remedio Bianco and a Naigarten. The Naigarten was 100% negretto grapes - young but with good funk to it, with a hint of mineral. The Remedio Bianco was an interesting local natural wine - not sure I would get it again, but it was an interesting find.
Since this was lunch #2 for us, we went light and just got 2 pastas
- Oxtail ravioli: with plums, honey, juniper - interesting filling with an almost five space flavor and a red sauce drizzle that was reminiscent of a subtle sweet and sour sauce
- Eliche: with aubergine, black tea, chard, lemon - like giant rotini pasta with a buttery eggplant purée with a hint of tea, served in a China like dish
Pastas were solid and very different in style compared to your traditional places. It's a small menu, so you can try pretty much everything if you're not on lunch #2 like we were!
