Poor hairstylist, had long hair and wanted to cut it short to recover my natural hair texture but Michelle cut my hair all wrong like a student stylist and she's one of their senior ones, gave me products that were meant to be natural and healthy for my hair but instead irritated my scalp and made my hair hard as if I had applied styling gel. Overpriced and not qualified enough to deal with all afro hair type, take your money elsewhere. read more

I went to get a wig made and colouring and provided the hair When making the appointment on the phone I attempted to ask questions about what they could and pricing however no answers were provided the response was we charged£25 for consultation if you can provide your bank details this should have been the first warning sign At the end of my consultation I was informed that I could not be given a price today and that I would receive a phone Call that they need to do a strand test for colour on the Hair first When I received my phone call I was told that I needed to make a deposit so that they could start making the wig . I responded by saying that once I given the full price I can make a deposit then I then received a further phone call with price and supposed discount I asked for them to email me with the price so I had it in writing . I did receive a text message without the price and asking me if I was happy to go ahead I texted back stating that I did not want the wig made and would collect the hair Arrived at the salon two days later to be told the wig had been made and that I had received a phone and text informing me of this I responded that the wig had been made without my permission and I was not backing down and was prepared for them to undo the wig and give me back my Hsir They ended up discounting the wig substantially The wig still had to be coloured and I went back for the wig to be installed the lace was cut unprofessionally too short for my Hairline and my wig was given a chop not a cut and no styling This place is just about making money anyway they can stay away read more

Extent of damage caused from visit worsens after inspection. Will have to keep my hair in braids until the damage grows out. Awful.

I received AWFUL service at this salon, and I was not happy with the results of my hair too much was taken off. My hair was left EXTREMELY DRY, and is CONSISTENTLY BREAKING as a result of their poor 'expertise.' I WOULD DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMEND THIS SALON. I now go to Errol Douglas or Tony & Guy: well renowned salons with a proven good reputation who can do Afro hair (AND AT A SIMILAR COST). Furthermore, their hairdressers have long, healthy hair and don't wear weaves go figure!! I have saved a screenshot of a previous conversation I had on this review, with someone who was masquerading as a customer. It is now deleted, but mail me if you would like to see some serious unprofessionalism. Once you see it you will see exactly what I mean, and will take my review doubly seriously read more

Booked appointment online and was quoted a price which seemed really good value. To be 100% sure emailed to inform them of what I wanted and asked them verbally when having skin test done prior to colour process however there was no information from to say there was any price change. I was then informed that a deposit would be required and was also charged after process believing that my deposit would be refunded. Unfortunately was informed that process was different and this totalled over double the price of quote. I assumed that when I raised this to manger they would see their error and refund or make some gesture of goodwill for a future visit at a discounted rate however none of this was done. Unfortunately this is one of the factors to take into account when trying to support your ethnic community. Strongly recommend going elsewhere. read more

Awful. They were unprofessional and made a lot of my hair fall out after leaving the chemicals on too long. I now have severe, continuous breakage everyday. Avoid this salon like the plague. They are also EXTREMELY overpriced, please don't waste your money (or your hair). read more

I am all for being in support of businesses and their fees, when they provide a fair and honest fee, for a good- above par standard of work. I initially went in for a 'trim' that turned into 'their definition' of a 'cut' and was charged £30 for practically 10mins in the chair for a dry cut. Shockingly and grotesquely over-priced and the end result WAS NOT aligned with the price- daylight robbery- will not return again EVER! read more

Place to go for natural hair
This was without a doubt the worst salon experience of my life. I arrived for an 11am appointment with an afro that reached my shoulders, I asked for a shampoo, TRIM, and cornrow. I left six hours later with less than one inch of hair at the back of my head and NO APOLOGY from either the 'stylist' who had butchered my hair, nor the owner Harriet, who stood by and watched. There was massive confusion when I arrived as Harriet informed me that my appointment had been cancelled because her staff did not take a number from me at the time of booking. This was to cause a delay as they would now have to squeeze me in. When it became apparent that the so called stylist did not know what she was doing and was trying to correct her mistakes by butchering my hair I told her to stop and get someone to help. I sat in a chair for half an hour, weeping at the mess she had made of my hair whilst all staff including Harriet waltzed passed me, watching me cry. I was never informed that the young girl was a junior or trainee, no on supervised her; she was just left to ruin my hair that has taken me many years to grow. The prices at Afrotheraphy are extortionate, but it is my birthday next week, I was given a voucher and I wanted to treat myself. Instead I was upset, embarrassed and humiliated. Michelle did her best to correct the situation and was the only person to treat me with any respect. But I would never recommend such an experience to anyone. read more

This is certainly not the place to go for relaxed or natural hair, or - in other words -any kind of black or mixed hair. I first went here a couple of years ago when my hair was natural, and boy did I regret it. They did a really bad job of moisturising, blowing out and pressing my hair, and I left looking like some kind of scarecrow with straw-like stiff tresses. This was particularly stressful for me as I was going to a wedding, and my hair looked just awful. I then found myself a proper hairdresser that could do natural hair, and she would come round to my house regularly when I needed her to. Unfortunately, when she moved away I was left without a stylist, and I (stupidly) decided to go back to this dreaded place to get my hair relaxed for the first time in 10 years (why, god why???). I guess I figured that they may be rubbish at natural hair but good with relaxed hair. I was so, so wrong. I was assigned to the manager of the place, i.e. the supposed senior stylist. I was not told that this would add EXTRA charges onto the bill, however. Then I was told that if I didn't want the relaxer to damage my hair, I'd have to pay for the most expensive, organic relaxer (I've since realised this was pure LIES. And what the hell is an 'organic relaxer' anyway? That's not even possible. Besides, all relaxers work in the same way, it was just a con). Then, the woman left the relaxer on for far too long, which burnt my scalp. It also left my hair weak, damaged and brittle - you would not believe the amount of breakage it caused. I also asked for a haircut, i.e. a hairstyle. This woman did not seem to know what this was. She literally cut around my head in a semi-circle, like how mothers give their kids a bowl hair cut, with the bowl on their head (I kid you not). And I paid around 30 quid for the privilege of this dodgy cut. I may as well have asked my 10 year old to do it. Finally, when it came to paying the bill I was unpleasantly surprised at all the extra charges she shamelessly added on, she even mentioned something about a trim, even though I was already paying for a haircut! I'm disappointed to say that I paid the bill, and that makes me angry because I should have called trading standards instead. I'm sorry about writing such a long review, but I feel that everyone ought to be warned of this place. It seems that anyone with a shop, a sink and a blow-dryer can call themselves a hairdresser, and this makes it hard to find a decent, safe place to get your hair done, especially if you have black hair. I give this place one star, but only because I could not give it zero. read more

I will never go to this salon again and I don't recommend it to anyone. The hairdressers don't listen to what you want or even if you're in pain from a burning relaxer! Every time I relax my hair they always force me to trim my hair just so they can make extra money. They cut so much of my hair off that my hair is still the same length after a year. They don't understand that I'm trying to grow my hair! They cut everyone who relaxes their hair in a bob style- which is so out dated. They are not diverse in their styles at all and their charges are way too expensive. read more
