Aspire has been providing intensive outpatient services for my teenage daughter for the past month…read moreor so throughout the covid outbreak. My daughter has been involved in counseling for much of her young life, and for the last several years, utilizing the more intense and focused services the Central Coast has to offer-with little success. Somewhat exasperated with the process and cynical to the list of promises I perceived as a sales pitch, I found myself far more direct then I usually am, with pointed questions and detailed concerns. I was impressed with the professional attitude maintained throughout my questioning and surprisingly impressed with the answers. They have kept every promise they made to us during that initial interview. The staff are invested in each of the clients, and groups are kept small to ensure everyone gets individual time. The activities are varied, age appropriate, and something a teenager would actually be interested in. Administration has gone above and beyond to work with insurance to ensure my daughter leaves when she is ready not just when the money runs out.

Did a 3 week stint here, was transferred after spending a week at Sierra Vista. I was going through…read morecancer treatment, and was trying to do everything on my own*: I was living alone, driving myself to appointments, doing all my grocery shopping and errands, etc. As the chemo built up in my system and I lost my appetite and sense of taste, I kinda stopped eating, which caused one of my daily prescription meds to build up to a toxic level. My body and brain shut down, and a welfare check called in by family got there just in the nick of time! Everyone at Mission View was so wonderful to me. Very special and caring folks. I took advantage of every therapy offered to me: physical, occupational, speech, and cognitive. When I was admitted I couldn't walk unaided and didn't know what year it was, but when I was discharged I was almost back to normal which I think surprised everyone! The food is fine. Eat as much as you can if you want to be released, you need the strength. It's a rehab facility, not a restaurant! Treat the staff with kindness and respect, and you'll get the same in return. They work so hard! I had a total meltdown one day where I was crying a lot and not working very hard in my sessions, and my therapists were so kind and gentle with me. My PT Tim let me sit alone in the courtyard with a cup of coffee for a while after our session, and my OT Stacy offered me a shower instead of working on more challenging activities. Nurse Rubi hugged me and assured me I'd be going home soon, because my brain was still foggy and I told her I feared I'd never get to leave lol. I could go on and and on, but in summary - if you're going there for a relatively short time to get strong again after an accident, incident, or surgery - follow the rules, respect the staff, eat the food, don't skip any of your therapies, and I can almost guarantee you'll have a good experience. It'll be tough some days, especially if you're used to living alone like I am, but you'll get through it. Stay positive! (*I'm staying with family now while I finish treatment, they're taking me to my appointments and making sure I'm eating well, so I likely won't end up in rehab again. I might stop by to say hello to everyone who helped me though!)

It's an older facility, but the care and staff there more than make up for that. We found all the nurses and support staff to be excellent. They were all very attentive to my aunt, and did not hesitate to order testing to make sure that she was recuperating well. Her wound care nurse, Amanda, was excellent and kept me well informed of her progress. The social worker, Janice, was very helpful and made the whole process easier. My aunt's only criticism was regarding the housekeeping staff, it sometimes took hours to get their bathroom cleaned up (one bathroom is shared by 4 patients). I was very pleased with my aunt's care here & wouldn't hesitate to use this facility again.

Thanks to the safe and comfortable environment combined with a structured and balanced schedule, I honestly believe the program and nurses here saved my life. Once I made it through the worst of my withdrawal symptoms, the staff was willing to accommodate hiking, shopping, and beach trips. It was difficult to leave the property itself though, as the beautiful view, peaceful garden, and spacious, luxurious home calm the soul. The Sound Bath was a life-changing spiritual journey that I've never experienced in my years of meditation. Moreover, I went in with a spinal injury that was causing severe leg pain which the masseuse unexpectedly alleviated almost altogether. San Luis Obispo is a spectacular location near hot springs, farmers markers, beaches, and right in between Southern California and the Bay Area. Their nurses ensured I had a solid game plan and aftercare program days in advance of leaving. It wasn't easy, but if I skipped over this detox, I might not be here today. Thank you BFR for all your help in getting me sober and my life back on track! - Peter N.
