I was scared of sobriety and alcohol withdrawal when walking into detox. Bright Future Recovery…read moredidn't feel like detox, it felt like a home away from home. Thanks to the safe and comfortable environment combined with a structured and balanced schedule, I honestly believe the program and nurses here saved my life. Once I made it through the worst of my withdrawal symptoms, the staff was willing to accommodate hiking, shopping, and beach trips. It was difficult to leave the property itself though, as the beautiful view, peaceful garden, and spacious, luxurious home calm the soul. The Sound Bath was a life-changing spiritual journey that I've never experienced in my years of meditation. Moreover, I went in with a spinal injury that was causing severe leg pain which the masseuse unexpectedly alleviated almost altogether. San Luis Obispo is a spectacular location near hot springs, farmers markers, beaches, and right in between Southern California and the Bay Area. Their nurses ensured I had a solid game plan and aftercare program days in advance of leaving. It wasn't easy, but if I skipped over this detox, I might not be here today. Thank you BFR for all your help in getting me sober and my life back on track! - Peter N.

Before your visit: In order to visit a loved one you must be an approved visitor on the inmates visitor list. Without this, you can cry, scream, beg...you're not getting in. Once you have been approved, go on their website and make an appointment cdcr.gtlvisitme.com you can only make appointments on Certain days. They keep changing due to COVID so check the website. Day of the visit: make sure you have an acceptable form of ID that is not expired because they will not make any exceptions. Also make sure you are wearing appropriate clothing because they are pretty strict here depending on the CO's that are checking in. Definitely no blue of any shade including denim, any shade of green or orange. You must be there an hour before your visit. No sooner because they won't let you on prison grounds any sooner. Once they let you in you check in with the CO's and show them your ID and wait to be called. Once they call you, you go up to the desk, take off your shoes and hand it to them, also give them anything else you brought because they have to check everything. You can only bring in one car key. They'll make you leave all the other ones in your car. Money must be in ones. $70 max for adults and $40 max per child. COVID Mandates: you must wear a mask and you must bring your vaccination card and show you are at least 2 weeks past your final vaccine OR show proof of a negative test within 72 hours. Even a day more won't count so make sure it's within the 3 days. They say they have COVID tests there that give you results in 15 minutes but it's first come, first serve limited tests. Not worth the risk for me so I always make sure my kids and I get it done days before and I bring a print out of the test results. Children: If you're bringing children you must have birth certificates for them and must be listed as a parent on there. If not, they ask you for extra paperwork that I'm unsure of since I only bring my kids. The same rules apply to kids as far as clothing restrictions. You can bring 6 diapers, a closed pack of baby wipes, an empty bottle or sippy cup, a blanket, and if they need formula you can bring the pre-made sealed bottles. If you're breastfeeding you must bring a blanket to cover up. They have toys for the kids to play with, games, coloring books, and movies. They say they sanitize everything including the toys for the kids but they didn't look that clean to me. It's a prison though, I didn't expect too much from it. Staff: Most staff I've dealt with during the visiting process has been decent and pretty helpful at this prison. No complaints. Bathrooms: the bathrooms are gross. Every time I've gone there's always at least one clogged toilet. Parking: there's plenty of parking. Despite this being a prison, we've had great visits. Visits for our loved ones are worth their weight in gold. Hope you all enjoy your visit/s!
