I was apprehensive when she started her summer program that she wouldn't be able to continue through the entire summer. Not only has the staff helped her through these issues. They've made her feel welcomed and cared for deeply. I myself had health issues this summer and knowing that my daughter is not only safe but she's loved is priceless. These BCDs are cool because you can swap parts to really customize the fit, and they spent so much time assembling and disassembling vests for me to try, to make sure I got the one that worked best for me! The task…read moreseems daunting, but huzzah-- Preucil is here I subscribed to this checklist in my search of finding my Cora not just an OK preschool but the absolute best for her, as a three year old; 1. ABC's, 123's - early years are the time to start 2. Play time every day (imaginative, physical) 3. Children should have choice of some activities 4. Teachers interact positively with children 5. Alignment with your home values They checked all the boxes (and then some) on my checklist. (1) The ABCs and 123s matter, right? Cora won't escape them in her life whether it be in a classroom the next decade or two, at her future job or even helping her kids with homework. Preucil does a good job touching on these but not over teaching them. (2) Playing is SO important and exactly what I really wanted my then 3 year old to focus on at school. Preucil really nurtures and encourages creativity, imagination and exploration. They believe children learn best through play and hands-on activities. They have great facilities-- with an amazing outdoor playground, inviting classrooms, a music room and art room. (3) A HUGE reason Preucil stood out was because of their always available art room. Cora could wander in as she pleased to paint a masterpiece, practice (supervised) with kids scissors and tinker gluing reclaimed items into awesomeness. I loved that she could choose when she wanted to be alone and create-- or go imagine with friends. Ms. Kristen, the art teacher, was always in the room encouraging her and captioning paintings as she did them so we knew what her focus was. (4) I can't sing enough praises for the teachers at Preucil. Tricia, the director, is amazing. Always helpful and I swear, never without a smile. Ms. Marit, the music teacher, did an amazing job. My daughter knows 'Taking Care of Business' as well as 'Puff the Magic Dragon' by heart. I adored their concerts for loved ones each semester. When it comes down to it, Cora's teacher (Ms. Chris) is why I would recommend this preschool to anyone. She was Cora's best friend throughout the year. Cora was encouraged to learn and grow at her pace. Her teacher totally understood that preschoolers aren't all the same. And as a parent, sometimes I lose sight of that-- it's often easy to compare when it comes to your kid and others. (5) This preschool and it's amazing faculty is in the business of teaching (helping raise) well rounded, kind humans that are most importantly, HAPPY. You couldn't ask for more! Preucil believes children have many languages with which to express themselves and communicate their thoughts and ideas. They nurture and encourage; drawing, painting, singing, sculpting, dancing, storytelling, playing -- among other things. And I love that. While Cora doesn't attend Preucil anymore, once my son is old enough-- he will without a doubt.

I have had a couple small concerns about my son. When I asked for help, ALL teachers jumped on deck, communicated with one another and with me to ensure my concerns were addressed and that my son was supported. I feel like I completely lucked out to have found and to be a part of such a supportive school.

This pseudo-park is part of the Coralville Central Elementary School and is absolutely fantastic on…read morea sunny day. The small creek that runs through it sets a very nice background for a park with a number of small seating areas and a very nice, though slightly out of place, bridge that crosses the stream about 50 feet from a road that does the same. A bike path through Coralville traverses the park and makes for a lovely segway between neighborhoods as you bike or run through. As it is part of the school, it's not ideal to go during school hours as they use it for outdoor class, but after hours or on the weekends it makes a great spot for some dog time or just relaxing with friends and enjoying the outdoors.

Had a visit at the University of Iowa College of Law on the main campus at Iowa City. Very nice…read morebuilding on the west side and right on the Iowa River...large roomy building with a small parking lot on the premises. The Boyd Law Building is sort of like a circular space ship with a dome on top. Since it is circular, most of the classrooms are build like wedges of a pie...with the rows of seating narrowing as they come down to the professor...this is a really neat design and wastes no space. The lecture and seminar rooms were very nice and up-to-date, furnishings and technology all up to snuff. The moot courtroom and other specialty rooms were also very nice. It is obvious Iowa is reinvesting in its property. The law library takes up a triple wide wedge of the back of the building and is located on four floors. While the Iowa Law library does have a number of tables and other seating arrangements around the place, they are distinguished by having an individual carrel with locking shelves for each and every student. This was a very neat idea for the students. In other areas of the building are all the administration and faculty offices. Iowa Law is well ranked in all the ratings and the faculty is well regarded. The school is a force in law schools and not just the Big-10...it has some national stature. We were out looking at law schools and stopped by for a visit...our self guided tour of the facilities was wonderful. The admissions people were welcoming and interested in us even though we showed up unannounced. As the major program at the State's flagship school they don't have to take a back seat to anyone. It's been 228 days since my kids went on their last sleepover. EEK. They see family not often,…read morefriends even less and are doing school over a computer screen! This 'new normal' had to have some semblance of actual, pre-pandemic normal for my 1st grade daughter so I scoured the interwebs for a virtual dance option. Alas, National Dance Academy! They're affordable ($25 a month). They offer multiple classes -- ranging from jazz, hip hop, ballet to tap-- for different ages, three days a week. National Dance Academy event sent a care package to Cora! (She, like everyone, loves happy mail. It's the small things folks.) I also adore NDA includes fun spirit days, like Unicorn Day, for participants to look forward to. Our very first class experience was not the best, I'll be honest. They had an in-person class via Zoom for at-home kiddos to follow along with. It was hard to see/hear and I had to explain to my daughter why she was at home while other girls got to be there in person. BUT. They reevaluated the class and the very next one-- the virtual class had their own instructor alone in the studio giving all her attention to her at-home dancers! WTG NDA, I adore your attention to detail and striving to make dancing fun for all families during this insane time! Anyways. I have nothing but good things to say about NDA. My daughter looks forward to each and every Wednesday night now. She feels like she has one 'normal' thing going on, finally. They're enrolling now for the next virtual session. I without a doubt recommend this dance option!
