Priceless Pet Rescue - Claremont

I have volunteered at Priceless Pets for almost four years. I have a total of 20+ years…read morevolunteering and fostering at various shelters and rescues. So I take no pleasure writing this review. I have seen a steady decline in the quality of their management. Perhaps as a result of their rapid expansion. For several summers the Claremont shelter operated without air conditioning I was in there, I know what it felt like. It bordered on animal cruelty. Last year the volunteers put up a bit of a revolt. Lisa Price, the head of the organization finally called the landlord and got it resolved. Every volunteer I worked with left! In my time as a volunteer I've never seen Lisa Price at the Claremont location. They have a high turnover of staff presumably due to very low pay. They have been reducing shelter hours. However, this didn't stop them from a goal of $20,000 for a duck pond! One has to wonder where the board of directors is? I recently fostered a 12 year old beagle rescued from a medical lab (good for them). The branch manager, Kammi said ( in writing) that he would be with me till he was adopted. Days later they insisted I bring him to the shelter. Matt told me it was a "little miscommunication " and they wouldn't honor it. Yesterday I sent a text to Lisa Price and Matt asking if I could pick Gravity up on their closed days to give him a break from the shelter. No response from either. Heartbreaking what they're doing to this dog! Maybe you saw another of their beagles being dragged down the streets of Costa Mesa by a volunteer on your local news. If you go to charitynavigator.org (priceless puppy rescue corp) you will see they are delinquent on Calif. state registrations. The state has disabled donations to them. I could go on but these are obvious signs of mismanagement. Why won't the board of directors do their job? A new shelter just opened in Ontario (Animal Resource Center of the Inland Empire). Lots of dogs and cats available for very reasonable adoption fees. At first glance they look worthy of support. Ph. (909) 321-1096. On the internet go to arcinlandempire.org

For my many mothers…read more I was raised here for a large chunk of my childhood. It was a wonderful place. Here I learned my life lessons, how to walk in high heels, how to play an instrument and how not to do the things that parents do to land one of their children here. The David and Margaret home for girls was where I found shelter by the state of California when I became a ward of the state. It is a large compound behind metal gates in the San Gabriel valley of Los Angeles. When you enter the large gates there are clerical, administrative and counseling offices, followed by ten small cottages that house ten girls and two staff members in each. I spent many years in the Mueller on your right. Dead ahead will be a dining hall and behind it, a recreation center and a swimming pool. At the very end of the complex is a large white estate which was the original orphanage that contributes it's name today. The estate is home to a store and behind her is a horse, that if she is still living is named Oatmeal. Girls like me who have exited abusive homes are treated to counseling, food, shelter and an education. *The rules are very strict. You may not exit the gates of the complex without being AWOL. A bell rings to announce a meal of county food and a light shines in your eyes every night on the hour from a night guard. You will not receive hugs or personal treatment from the staff who is regularly changed to ensure that you not become attached, but you will also never be harmed again as long as you are here. I have many stories about this place like skating at Skateland, camping at Leo Carillo in Malibu for winning the softball championship, carrying my first picket sign and many others. I'll tell you one. We received an allowance from the state of California of $3.25 per month each. If you could manage to not break a rule for 30 days, the allowance increased. (These rules were hard not to break) A state inspector went through your shared bedroom with a white glove every morning. Chores, grades, recreational credits and household interactions were part of the grade. I was a disaster, I was inconsolable because no one loved me. Or so I thought;) I used the angst to break the record for going the longest without breaking the rules. My eyes were on the prize and like the stubborn, one track minded girl that I am, I was obsessed. After years of saving, I finally did it. I bought my Yamaha G35 acoustic guitar, tuner and case at Guitar Center. I was twelve years old. I practiced every night to make use of the time that I was not permitted to watch television and taught myself how to play without the aid of a book. It took a couple more years to make a career out of it. To Adrian, Pat and all the other proctors: Thank you for raising me. To the nurses, therapists, teachers and counselor's: Thank you for everything. I am here because of you. I'll spend my life writing this review. For now, no words can credit you what you are owed for taking me in. I'll try to do you right by the actions of my life. David and Margaret takes contributions and accepts mentors with special skills. You can donate your time doing things like giving music lessons. This is an amazing place to lend your hands. Your Christmas cards and your good intentions.

She's truly someone who is always looking out for the families and kiddos best interests. Compassionate is something that is much needed is this line of work and these ladies are rocking it! We chose this agency based on their positive reviews, hoping to begin our adoption journey and finally start our family. That was well over a year ago, and in that time, this agency has done nothing but waste our time, money, and hope. At every stage, Building Bridges has failed us. They canceled meetings, canceled phone calls, and repeatedly rescheduled. They buried us in endless requests for paperwork and documentation from multiple agencies--only to then allow those very documents to expire, forcing us to start all over again. Despite us responding promptly and complying with every requirement, they've shown nothing but negligence and disorganization. We were told, "Once your house is inspected and approved, you'll be ready for placement." Our home was inspected and over six months ago with approval lagging for another 5 months. So, here we sit, still waiting, while Building Bridges drags its feet. We have spent hundreds of dollars on required trainings, testings, and travel--all with nothing to show for it. This is emotionally devastating. My wife and I have clean records, a safe and more-than-adequate home, and we live in a good area with great schools. We are fully ready to provide a loving, stable home. Meanwhile, we've been informed about the 700,000 children in the system in California who need homes--yet Building Bridges has actively prevented us from giving a child a home by refusing to move this process forward. Considering that we can not have biological children of our own and time is not on our side, this experience has been absolutely crushing. Building Bridges has robbed us of more than just time--they've robbed us of opportunity, hope, and trust. I have zero confidence in Building Bridges FFA. To anyone considering this agency: please save yourself the heartbreak and look elsewhere.

While the facility did look clean, my goodness, it smelled so bad. So I came to this animal shelter on a whim and the building is so nice. I was helped immediately, everyone was friendly, and I went to go look around at the dogs. I found a dog I was interested in but was on a hold. I was told that once the dog is no longer on the hold, I could call and set up an appointment for a meet and greet. Well, my first time at this shelter was on Wednesday, the dog was no longer on the hold today (Saturday) so I made sure to call and make an appointment for a Meet and Greet. The lady told me she had times available same day and I was able to meet the dog a few hours after making the phone call. I came in, I was helped promptly. And I got to meet the dog. I asked the worker if I would be able to walk the dog. It was a little misty outside so she gave me a jacket to give the dog and the staff member was with me outside with the dog and she was so friendly. Once I was done, I let the staff member know I wanted to adopt and she let me sit with the dog a little longer while she got the paperwork ready for me. The fee was not bad at all because it included the adoption fee, vaccines, check up with vet, pet insurance for a month, neuter, and microchip! Once I completed all the paperwork, I was given all the forms in a nice little folder and a bunch of flyers and coupons. I was also given a goody bag and a variety of blankets to choose from. I wish I remembered the lady that helped me because I truly feel like she made this experience extra special. She set up his neuter appointment so I haven't gotten a chance to take him home yet, but I'll be able to after he's neutered. I am really happy with my experience at this animal shelter and I'll definitely be referring friends and family to come adopt here!

And they microchipped him. 24 hours later, my kitty is at the vet because he has tapeworms!! I am upset because they allowed us to adopt a sick cat. I noticed the tapeworms and soon as he made his first bowel movement at home. I took him into the vet first thing this morning. And even though we received a free 30 days of pet insurance, his treatment will not be covered because it is a pre-existing condition. There's no way the shelter staff didn't notice his tapeworms unless they really weren't paying any attention to his stool. So either they noticed and did nothing about it or weren't being thorough with his care. I wish this had gone differently.

I like Wednesday's where there are student/teacher discounts. To my luck, I went on a spin the wheel day today! You get to spin the wheel after your purchase for an opportunity to win items or get a discount. I like browsing their toys, vintage items, and office supplies. I usually get very good second hand items such as staplers, hole punchers, DVDs, shoes, and board games. This location is actually my favorite place to shop for vintage film cameras (I'm afraid to post this because my fellow Yelp friends will be coming more to grab them before I do!). Today, I bought a good pocket minolta film camera, some stuffed animals, and some office supplies. The cashiers are sweethearts and are willing to help you look at items! It's a friendly, community-focused thrift store with great customer service.
