The staff is always happy to help with recommendations, which has especially come in handy for gift giving to those who prefer things I dispise. Gin, I'm looking at you. We, along with so many of our neighbors if you ask our recycling bins, are so grateful this spot remained flexible and open during all the regulations in 2020.

Though he had plenty of unboxed bottles in the front of the store, the owner went into the back to find me an unopened, undamaged box of the minis to make a nice visual impact in the gift. The extra attention to detail went above and beyond for me; I've visited Englebardt's a few times since when picking up bottles for my own stock or hosting gifts, and will continue to visit when shopping in Schenectady in the future.

He is passionate about helping his customers save money, and frequently steers you away from over-priced famous brands in favor of better tasting, lesser known offerings. He almost always takes a dollar or two off every bottle for his regular customers. The only drawback here (and the reason I rate it a 4 rather than 5) is that the small size of the store limits the quantity of merchandise, and occasionally one cannot find a specific product. However, the proprietor cheerfully makes special orders without any hesitation--I really liked a French Bordeaux wine I tried in a restaurant, asked about it, and he immediately ordered me a case, gave me a discounted price, and started selling this wine as part of his regular offerings. This is a great little liquor store, and my wife and I have gone back there for more than a decade. Strongly recommended.
