I was craving Mexican and decided on tacos for take-out. I ordered the chicken tacos and made it a combo (rice and beans, guacamole is an extra charge as well). The server was extremely personable and helpful. She asked me if I wanted salsa with my order and I said "sure". Since I couldn't decided, she gave me samples of all three. Warning they are all spicy. The guacamole habanero once was the least spicy. The beans, rice and guacamole were all good. The chicken was slightly on the dry side but was still pretty good. This is a great hole in the wall, kind of secret place for great mexican food ! It's never super busy, so the service is quite good and not much wait time. Not a super fancy place decor wise, but adds to the authentic mexican experience. My go to is the pulled pork platter, comes with rice, avocado, refried beans, etc The nachos are very good as well. Tacos are reasonably priced and well seasoned too. Also the guacamole portions are really good, compared to most places. They sell awesome mexican soft drinks, and are also licenced in case you want a beer or margerita with your meal . Parking is usually available for free on a nearby side street. I've been having some serious conflict about posting this review... I love Adelitas. And I do want people to have a fantastic Mexican meal.... but I am also really selfish (only-child) and don't want to have to wait in line. In the end, my desire for all you lovely people out there to experience some delish Mexican food won out. Now this is a hole in the wall restaurant. Located in what I consider to be no mans land on Victoria St. They are a cash only establishment, and not licensed. The decor is basic, there is no AC and the store front faces the setting sun, so it can get sweaty balls hot. BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER BECAUSE THE FOOD IS SO FREAKING AMAZING. I only ever get one thing, the veggie enchiladas which are not listed on the menu. It looks like they only have meat ones, but if you ask they'll make you veggie ones. And not plain ol' rice and beans "veggie" but actual sauteed veggies such as broccoli and zucchini. You have two sauce choices, and I always get the red. Plus your meal comes with rice and re-fried beans. You are getting a lot of bang for your buck. My dining pal always switches it up and has tried a variety of different meat dishes and is always satisfied. Ooooh and they 4 different kinds of homemade salsa that they bring out to you. Be warned that service can be s.l.o.w. Its family run and I think I've only ever seen two people working, the charming lady out front and the cook in the back. We decided on this place based on the reviews and we don't understand why they are so great for this restaurant. The service was not great, only when we were one of the last tables left did we get semi decent service. The food took 1 hour to be served. Someone who arrived later than us to order takeout got their order before us. After the wait, the food we received was not worth the wait. The beef tongue tacos were bland and flavorless. The gringa was just loaded with cheese, we did not taste anything else. I remember attempting this restaurant a few years ago, we basically left because we stood there for at least 15 minutes without the server acknowledging or seating us. Came to this place after browsing the Vancouver subreddit about hole in the walls. Yeah, this is a hole in a wall, but man! SO GOOD! The best part, they have so many soups. I like that because soup is the best during the winter. I had the tostadas and the pozole. The hominy in the pozole is nice and chewy and with the condiments on the side, you can alter it the way you want which is a nice touch. The tostadas were crunchy but didn't fall apart with each bite which was great! My friend ordered the Menudo and the beef tongue tacos. The menudo stock was flavourful and the tacos were simple - the best part about them! The tacos didn't try to be something it wasn't and just let the flavours do the talking! so good! The sauces that accompany the chips at the beginning are delicious and will burn your mouth (well at least one) but in that right way. It doesn't come at you like a man with a flamethrower but burns with a consistent heat. Overall, the best part is that the prices are really really really affordable! read more

This place is the real deal. The food is excellent and the price is very fair. This is a small operation and has the small business/ family feel. It's a true Mexican restaurant run by Mexicans. If you come here expecting the vibe of a chronic tacos or any other large franchise you may be disappointed because it's definitely not that. These are kind, good people, that will take the time to make you what feels like a real home made Mexican meal. The decore is simple as they are not trying to be Vancouver's prettiest restaurant. The staff and ownership are an authentic group that offer a clean and friendly place to eat an excellent meal at a more than fair price. I eat here several times per week as it is close to my house. One thing that I don't know if everyone knows is that they do breakfast. My favourite is huevos a la mexicana. It's scrambled eggs with tomatoes inside, beans, a small stack of tortillas, toast, coffee and OJ all for about $12. And you get free tortilla chips to munch on until your food is ready. If you are reading bad reviews from people, I can guarantee that they were expecting some kind of hold your hand, canadianized dining experience. And this is not that. I am Canadian.. not being racist. Just saying it's not that kind of place. I went here upon Conrad Y.'s recommendation! I am really thankful that he messaged me about this spot. It is delicious! We shared nachos, which was done differently thank I've ever had. They have homemade tortilla chips with melted cheese, and they cover it with freshly diced tomatoes, avocado, and sour cream. For our mains, we had two taco combos with chicken, chile rilenos, and a burrito combo. My cousin really liked the rice that comes on the side lol. I really liked everything, especially the fresh avocado salsa. I like how the plate comes with a side of limes. The theme to this meal is FRESH. I really appreciate that about this restaurant. My mexican addiction is no joke, thats how we ended up here tonight. No one greeted us when we walked in, therefore we seated ourselves. The restaurant is small, it has 20 seats. 10 minutes later, a girl came out n took our order etc. We ordered chicken nachos, a chicken enchilada with salsa verde and burrito with chorizo. The nachos were so good!! The chips were crunchy, chicken was soft and the cheese was gooey. Perfect. Okay fine, my boyfriend said add that the nacho chips were a bit oily. The enchiladas were bland and soggy. The burrito was good. The meals also come with rice and beans and complementary salsa/hot sauces. The meals came to $50. Overall, the food is worth the wait. What a disappointment! I was craving Mexican food after recently coming back from a trip to San Francisco (post holiday blues, sigh) so I decided to stop by here. Ordered a beef tongue burrito and some beef and lamb tacos. I suppose they are authentic if authentic means operated by people of the same culture/ethnicity of the food they are making/selling. However, as authentic as they may be, you can tell the food is not made with love and care. My burrito came lukewarm and it quickly turned cold (it was probably microwaved?). I also find it weird that it came on a plate and I was given a knife and fork to eat it instead of wrapped in tin foil. Everything just disintegrated as soon as I cut it, and it turned into a sloppy mess like I was eating dog food. The beef and lamb pieces in the tacos were not tender. There was a fly in the soup that came with the tacos. Good service though. And the drinks are good. This spot has potential but I won't be coming back :( read more

Fresh. That's something you don't hear often when describing Mexican food in Vancouver. And I don't really like using it, especially when grocers have nothing else to say about their food when it's not local or organic. (Mini-rant over). When my new roomie suggested we hit up Adelita's after we grew weary with hunger from furniture shopping (I would be so happy when i'm rich enough to NOT use craigslist). The pork enchiladas in green sauce are so good!!! I had to order them off the menu because they only meat options were chicken or beef. The waitress was happy to accommodate, especially since we were one of two tables filled on a Tuesday night. The bright green avocados and green sauce were presented perfectly I may have been hypoglycemic, but the tamales were also good, albeit a little soggy for my liking. But the flavours overpowered my senses and they disappeared before I could criticise the sogginess. The three homemade salsas accompanied the dish, and all were amazing. I preferred the smoky chipotle sauce. It wasn't as fiery as the green or red, and could be applied with vigor. Decor is properly Mexican: it's kept to a minimum and the money goes towards the great food. The chairs and cups may be plastic, but it's worth it. Definitely worth checking out if you're craving Mexican and you're on a budget. read more

4 stars for the food and 2 stars for the service = 3 stars overall. The food is fresh, authentic and tasty. The horchata and chiles en nogada (stuffed poblanos in a sweet walnut cream sauce) were a bit too sweet, but that's more of a comment on my preferences than a criticism of the food, as I often find foods too sweet for my taste. The guacamole was very good, as was the pastel azteca. Unfortunately, the quality of the food was let down by the poor service. My meal arrived lukewarm. My wife's meal didn't arrive for another 5 minutes, but at least it was warm enough. The waitress didn't speak English very well, so we had difficulty asking her what to do with the extras she brought. It also didn't help that there were no descriptions on the menu, just the names of each item and a small photo, so I had to Google everything before we could decide what to order. If you don't mind sweet food, you speak some Spanish and understand Mexican cuisine, then Adelitas may be worth a visit. In my case, I'll try another restaurant the next time I'm looking for Mexican food. read more

The best!!! When I lived in Vancouver I went to Adelitas once a week and was never disappointed. The burritos were my favourite but every dish that I tried was delicious. The ingredients are always fresh and their service is top class. Authentic and filling. Aromas should be of BBQ meats, hot corn oil and fresh tamales. Ordered the taco al-pastor meat is juicy. Friend ordered enchilada and chicken mole. Soft burrito shell and hot and juicy , the chicken mole wasn't too thrilling. Didn't taste enriched or had much depth in it as a mole should, meat was a bit dry too. Not bad - authentic, fresh and reasonably priced. If I hadn't read any of the reviews beforehand, I would never have known that this little whole in the wall existed and served food, let alone Mexican food. So it's probably not a place to take a first date...maybe not even a second or third date - but the place was clean and brightly lit, and waitress was friendly. I ordered their special - 3 chicken tacos with rice, guacamole and beans for ~$11. Portions are reasonably sized and come with authentic tomato salsa and what I think was cilantro salsa, both stored in Rubbermaid squeeze bottles. For a second I thought i was sitting in someone's house - complete with steel-barred windows and Mexican music playing in the background. All in all my experience wasn't bad - I wouldn't go out of my way to go back, but if I'm in the area and craving Mexican I'd probably give it another shot. read more

This place charged me $7 extra for a quesadilla, which I wanted beef. She said it was $5 extra for beef and $2 extra for sour cream, which was not stated at all in the menu. In the menu, it was stated as complimentary. On top of that, she said it was only $10 after I argued with her. she didn't even speak clear understandable English. Service: 5/5 Food: 3/5 Stopped by for the first time today for some takeout, and got the Carnitas Burrito Combo, which comes with rice, refried beans, guacamole, and hot sauce. I arrived and surprised to see only one table being used at the restaurant, but the other reviews seemed good, so I thought I'd check it out. The server at the front desk (young woman in her 20's), was super nice nice and accommodating. She gave me a couple minutes to check out the menu, then was offering suggestions and some nice small talk while I was there. She took my order, told me it would be a few minutes, and then set me up with 3 different salsas to try at home, which was totally unnecessary, but very appreciated. Within about 5 minutes I was walking out the door, burrito, sides and salsas in hand. When I got home and opened the packaging, there seemed to be plenty of food, and for the price, I was pretty satisfied with how much it cost. Guacamole was flavorful, refried beans tasty but a little bland, and the rice was a bit dry and sticky, but when it's all mixed together, who cares? Still good! The burrito left a bit to be desired. I ordered my burrito without the crema, but that left only the carnitas (pork) and cheese in the burrito, which was a flour tortilla, not corn. Combined, it was a very dry main course, and I really wish there was something else for spice and moisture in the burrito, and really advise switching over to corn tortillas: better taste, better texture, and better overall burrito experience. I do intend to go back for a dine-in experience and try out the rest of the menu, since there's a ton of promise, and maybe it was just a one-off experience with the dry burrito. We drive from New Westminster for the Menudo. Authentic very tasty!! Service is very good. Third visit here and recommend stopping in. Excellent choice would be the conchinita pibil. On a cold rainy day there is a great selection of authentic soups. I personally recommend the pozole my other half loves the menudo. Worth the drive. read more

4.5 stars. Pleasantly surprised by this Mexican restaurant! We came on a Sunday at around 2pm and it was half full. We ordered the Chile en Nogada and enchiladas con carnitas y salsa verde. Both were super delicious and more than what we expected - in terms of flavour and size. The margaritas were good but not extraordinary. Coconut flan was good too but a bit heavy for just one person - sharing is better. I wish we had discovered this place sooner! Definitely one of our favourite Mexican restaurants now! Service was a bit slow but it's understandable since it's a family restaurant. However, waitress was helpful and nice. Restaurant was clean and had a good appearance. The price has now increased to a point where I just can't overlook their slow service. Everytime I passed by this place there would be a line... and I finally realize that it was due to the incredibly slow service. The food was decent (Tostadas were the best thing we ordered). However, it wasn't worth the wait. There were only four tables (including ours for 2 people) and we waited an HOUR. We felt bad for the families that came after us because they waited even longer than that. The kitchen was backed up and overwhelmed. It was impossible to get service because the waitress also worked in the kitchen. I can't imagine how they could manage the rest of the night as all the tables eventually filled up. Everyone was looking quite annoyed after waiting 1+ hours. I asked if they were short staffed but apparently it's always like this. If they hired an extra person (rather than having a waitress/cook), then this restaurant would do so much better. I didn't like the fact that as more people wandered into the restaurant, they didn't inform the customers that it would be over an hour wait. If you are not starving, and won't mind waiting over an hour for food over some beers.. then you'd be ok with the place. Otherwise, you've been warned! read more

I've been to this small joint about three times since it's reasonably priced and, by Vancouver standards, the Mexican food is decent. The horchata is good, the sauces and beans are okay, and the main entrees are aight. Some items are certainly better than others. I should add that they really need to step up their rice game. It's never been strong -- quite bland. The service is good. I'm always treated like a king. I've seen a few people comment on location and decor, so I guess I'll chime in here. The location is fine. Park on the side streets, as you would with many other joints in this town. Or walk, bike, bus, etc.... as you would with any other place. With regard to the decor: I'm not sure what a "Mexican" restaurant is supposed to look like. You want sombreros, cacti, wrestling masks, and the Virgin all over the place? Go to some other stereotype-filled place. What makes this place a Mexican restaurant is its Mexican food. read more

I'm sure the food is good. I got recommended to this place by a friend and he likes the food. BUT the service is crap, we waited at the door for a good 15 mins before we decided to leave. (The group in front of us left as well) There was 2 open tables with plates still on them, but no one was putting them away. There was a guy who looked like the owner/staff that kept getting drinks for all his friends from the kitchen while ignoring all of the customers at door. I was born and raised in southern California where Mexican community is large and have so many authentic Mexican restaurants everywhere there. Frankly this restaurant is nowhere close to their level. I tried this restaurant after read this review. I was extremely disappointed because I was craving for really good Mexican food. When my fiance and I enter this restaurant and the waiter didn't even notice that we got here and waited for our menu. It took around five minutes until they finally notice it. Once we got the menu. The menu itself were really dirty and gross. Our waiter who is young man is not well groomed. He needs get clean up and have that nasty nose ring removed from his nose. We asked for chip and salsa. He bought the three salsa bottles but didn't provide the plate or bowl for salsa. We had to ask for it. We also had to ask for drink and process the order. Our waiter didn't bother to actually ask anything. We felt that he doesn't really want to work at this restaurant at all. The way he acted like he was forced to work just because his parents told him to. The food we ordered burritos were so boring and nothing special about it. We were really disappointed by that. We will not come back again. If you want authentic Mexican food - do not waste your money and time at this restaurant. read more

El Caracolito is dead people. Long live Adelitas!. Sexy new lady on the menu and slightly updated decor. They expanded the menu a bit as well. Changed the hours Mon to Friday Breakfast and lunch 7am to 2pm. Saturday and Sunday 12pm-9:30 pm. It is still the best and cheapest and best Mexican food around no muss fuss or hipster inflation. The only thing I would say is not so swell about this place is the service can be poor-ish depending on who is working that day. The food for a large table may come at different times instead at all at once. Hey the kitchen is small, plus only a few owners will be present in the kitchen any given day. Other then that it is smashing! Great filling food that sits in ur tummy like an inside hug. It's so well priced and very cool because you get a number of delicious homemade salsa's brought to ur table with fresh corn tortilla chips before ur food arrives. Most Mexican restaurants do this and I applaud them all for it. BTW CASH ONLY so be prepared people. I myself will only go with a max of four people. I just know if it's more then that we may have complications with food time arrival and order accuracy. Love is in this food and the portions are perfect! You get more then what you pay for in my opinion. Also it warms the heart to see other South of the border folks frequent the joint. You know it's good when the locals eat here. I'm a California girl and have been pretty spoiled when it comes to Mexican food so when I found this delicious place, I felt like I was home. I've tried their tacos, yum, their nachos, and several other items on the menu and I have yet to be let down. Their service is on the slower side, but the food makes up for it. I've been on the hunt for decent Mexican and was thrilled to discover this little joint on Victoria Drive. I ate here yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The restaurant is a small place with a loud television blaring Spanish soap operas but that is just part of the experience. It felt like taking a vacation to somewhere in the Southern USA near the Mexican border. I ordered the taco special with pork and beans and got three tacos fully loaded with everything on fresh flour tortias. The bill came to $9:45 and I was so full I thought I might have to roll myself down the street. Will be back here next time I am craving delicious and authentic Mexicana. read more
