Great easy trail. Should be able to do the whole trail within 3 hrs. The waterfall is the goal. Currently snow is a little tricky at the moment. Should be good by end of May.

Really fun trail that's challenging but still very doable. We hiked early in April, and toward the end of the trail to get to the falls there were still ice so had to traversed that for a bit. Having cleats would help but we were only in our hiking boots and was able to make it through with very careful footing and clinging onto rocks on the way. Anyway it was worth it! Def a fun trail, we also packed a light lunch to snack on when we got to the falls and was able to enjoy the view before heading back down.

Nice canyon there's a nice waterfall as you climb to the top of the canyon is a good walk for families

This waterfall is huge! Don't let the pic fool you.

Amazing trail. Even with 6 kids ages 4-12. We left the base at 930am and arrived back at the lot at 12. Yeah the switchbacks were tough, because there were around 10 of them. But after you pass those the shade and fun parts begin. The best parts are the rocky parts, the parts where the trail is right next to the running water and the grand finale..the waterfall. The challenge is likened to how tantalizing full bodied spice is to Indian food. A hike like this certainly seemed like an acquired taste. Its fun, feels dangerous and its delightfully bumpy. Either one will accept the challenge and push through, turn & call it quits around after a few switchbacks [like one of us did], or complete it but begrudgingly complain most of the way [like a few of us did]. We got to the first waterfall, which I wouldn't even really call a destination and reason to go on this hike. The big waterfall was pretty nice and was just 10 minutes past the first waterfall. It was about a few houses high and you will get wet here if you want to experience the whole shebang. Like true love, the big waterfall is worth waiting for. Some tips and thoughts to make your hike better... 1. Do cardio or train for months before you come here. 2. The kids 9-11 had no issues here or even really got tired. The 4-7 years old whined quite a bit, but it was doable. However the 4 year old was carried quite a bit. Any younger than 4 and you're just asking for trouble and are quite out of your ever-lovin- mind. 3. The ones who did the worst was the ones who were mid to late thirties and above. And one of us quit before finishing the switchbacks. 2 of us over 30 complained most of the way. 4. Bring wet or waterproof shoes or hiking boots here and shoes you dont mind getting dirty. They will get both wet and dirty for sure. 5. Bring tons of water and wet wipes if you tend to be a frequent pee-er or poo-er. 6. Come anytime after 9am in the Summer and it will be hot at h*ll. 7. For good pictures near the waterfall, you may need a "real" camera. Our phones didnt get good ones due to all the mist. 8. Get a full nights sleep before this hike. 9. If you have regular dance experience you may fare better on this hike. Totally worth the pain and struggle. Have fun!

I love this trail! I've been hiking this place more times than I can remember. I grew up in Layton right down the street so when ever I or my friends had some free time we would go up here. Its a fairly easy hike. I think most people just have a hard time with the beginning and towards the end. Beautiful scenery and a great trails to follow. You've really got to try hard to get lost doing this hike. Word of advice if you're hiking up to catch a sunset don't forget a flash light it gets dark rather quickly and you don't want to get caught up there without light. Depending on what time of year it is the water level does get higher. But not to the point of being uncrossable. Love this place I can't say it enough. Bring the kids as well.

The first time hiking this trail can be confusing in some areas. Thankfully it isn't hard to find your way up if you just track the boot prints of humans and paw prints of dogs. Loved the hike. It had the perfect amount of challenging inclines and obstacles, and a bonus round at the very end - finding a rock path across the river. Or not worrying about it and just trudging through the river. Either way, you're going to get your shoes/feet wet. As always bring water and other outdoor gear you feel necessary for a 2-3 hour excursion.

Fantastic hike. There are a lot of trails that branch off from the main trail, which can make the hike confusing, however when you get into the canyon most of the trails meet back up. There are a few spots on the trail with some steep climbs or where you are on rock walls, so use some discretion before taking very small children. The falls itself is fantastic. Super cool water and as you get close it blasts you with cool air on a hot day. I give the trail 4 stars mainly due to how many other people there are and the litter and graffiti along the trail. Other than that this trail is a great hike.

Amazing hiking trail. Also being to close to many homes, makes it a very practical morning to early afternoon hike! I went about 2 and 1/2 miles back into the canyon after the waterfall. It's relatively dangerous and I wouldn't recommend it if you don't have climbing experience. Other than that, I highly recommend this trial!

It sets in the drainage of Baer Creek. City has made this into a great trail for walking, biking, running or just enjoying nature. Most of the trail is shaded by 60'+ Cottonwoods, Willows, Mountain Ash and Boxelder Trees. The creek is running mainly in the Spring and after a good rain. Trail splits and has 2 paths to follow which all connect back together. Wild raspberries & wild blackberries can be found all along the trail. Service berries, Chokecherries and other wild edibles can also be found. There are benches spaced out along the sides to take a rest or just take it all in. There are restrooms available at the park pavilion just 100 yards south of the trail. Haven't seen much wildlife except birds. Most of the trail has shredded bark laid down on the trail. If you walk from west to east and follow the loop it's about 2.3 miles. An awesome walk anytime of the day with new things to discover each time I walk it. Check it out! A hidden gem just waiting for your next activity.

It's clean, spacious and the people are friendly. There are no mountains to the west so dusk hangs in there a little longer and the sunsets are beautiful every night. Fishing here has been good to us. We have caught the biggest rainbow we've ever hooked, at this pond. I was shocked! The bag limit is 2 per person, so it went quick. The 3 of us got our limit under and hour. The rest of the day was catch and release which is just as fun. The trout here are feisty! They are a blast to reel in. When I can't make it into the mountains, Jensen pond works for me. The ducks here are funny and crazy. Not crazy, like Clinton Pond ducks (those are just plain scary). I'm not a fan of giving ducks bread for their health and water quality reasons, but I'll loosen up a bit and let the little one give them some bread once in a while. She loves it, they love it. There's a melting pot of ducks and geese, all unique in their own way and each with a cute personality. If you'd like to take a little walk and get the bod moving, this is a good place. The sidewalk goes around the entire pond. I also noticed a ton of people walking around with their cell phones. So if you're into Pokemon, I think that's what they're doing. Jensen Nature Park is for everyone! Come check it out! Heads up: Be careful around the edges of the sidewalk. There are huge holes. I've rolled my ankles in them almost every time we came. I don't learn my lessons very easily.

We were staying with relatives north of Salt Lake City. After a morning flight and the drive to…read moretheir place, we had the rest of the afternoon free while they finished up at work. They recommended this spot if we wanted an easy hike nearby. The Preserve is at the end of a road in a large marshland. It is only a mile or so from multiple subdivisions and some shopping plazas, so it is not really 'remote'. However, once you get there, you feel much further away from civilization. There is a small parking lot, from which you can access the trail / boardwalk. The main trail is a roughly one mile loop, but there is a spur that connects it with the parking area. Along this spur is a small building (which is blended into the landscape, making it hard to notice from the road) which has restrooms and a water fountain. The spur trail ends at a platform from which the loop trail exits in 2 directions. Both here and at various points along the boardwalk, there are a number of signs which provide educational explanations about the area's wildlife. This is presented so as to be easy to understand from about mid-elementary school and up. Around at the far side of the loop is another larger platform which features an observation deck about 20 fee up. The boardwalk is level, but it is weathered in some spots and there is an occasional screw-head that sticks up above the wood, so exercise a bit of care during your walk. There are no trees or shade on the loop, other than at the 2 platforms, so bring water and a hat if you are here in the summertime. This is a good spot if you have kids along who are old enough to read the signs and who enjoy nature.

I found it via Ebird when looking for birding hotspots in my years-long search for the Lazuli Bunting that has always eluded me - until now!! I saw 17 Lazuli Buntings in one hour - mostly the colorful males I was after! I also saw numerous feisty Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, plenty of robins, some various finches as well as lots of other wildlife like squirrels, colorful Whiptail lizards, and even some beautiful Eight-spotted Skimmer dragonflies! And during spring there are so many beautiful wildflowers! You also get mountain views from almost any angle - definitely some gorgeous scenery. This park actually holds tons of trails - lots of mountain bike trails such as the start of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail - and several hiking trails including the trailhead for the 100-mile Great Western Trail through the Wasatch mountains. There's also an orienteering course throughout the park and you can access the info for it via their website. The main hiking trail is short though - just over a mile long and relatively flat. But there are so many offshoots you could make your hike much longer if you want. All gravel - well maintained. There are lots of trail markers and signs but all the offshoots and bike trails turn it into a spider web, so I highly recommend a good trail map (I use AllTrails). I'm giving it 4 stars bc honestly it's not the most peaceful trail system for hikers. The mountain bikers are constantly flying by and they're not very careful in watching for pedestrians so be aware and be careful. Also, there's a shooting range along the back part of the park trails and it's noisy and a little unnerving lol. There are several campsites you can reserve via the city's website - I saw one of them and it was an absolute mess - full of trash and clothes and such - so the campsites don't seem well cared for. Shame bc it could be really nice :/ I didn't see any bathrooms or portapotties anywhere so go before you come. There's also a lot of construction going on at the entrance - so the parking lot is inaccessible at the moment (May 2023). There is street parking along one side but space is limited. I saw lots of people parking on the other side but there are "no parking" signs so be aware.
