Based on two years of experience as his patient and the extensive work that he has done for me during that period, I strongly recommend Dr. Adam Schwartz and his staff at Brandywine Dental Care. Here's some reasons why: 1.) Communication skills and commitment: Dr. Schwartz prepares a treatment plan for you and explains it to you in his consultation office, using 3D imagery and other effective teaching tools to help you understand any dental issues you might have. He's open to alternative approaches and answers questions plainly and clearly, in-person or by email. When you're in the dental chair, he advises you of the progress of the work and seems to know just when to give a helpful word of reassurance. If you have a question or concern, just raise your hand at any time. Dr. Schwartz thinks that communication--both with his staff and with the patient-- is very important, and he's very good at it. 2.) Advanced training and experience in oral surgery: Last fall, I had a dental emergency--extreme and painful swelling in my upper left jaw that was getting worse by the hour. Dr. Schwartz worked overtime to see me the very day I called him. Using the latest 3D x-ray technology, he was able to diagnose the problem immediately, an infection in one of my upper molars. Then he showed me the problem in his consultation office using the 3D imagery, prescribed an antibiotic and pain reliever, and scheduled an appointment with me for the next day. That's when his advanced training and experience came into play. Rather than referring me to a specialist, Dr. Schwartz did the surgery and suturing needed to clean out the infection and repair and protect my gums himself. He not only treated the problem quickly and effectively but also managed to save the old crown that was on the infected molar, sparing me a substantial expense. In a dental emergency, he's calm and confident, intense and focused, yet still open and concerned with how you're feeling at each stage of the work. You're in the hands of a master. 3.) Technology and facilities: I've already mentioned the advanced 3D imaging. More generally, this is a full-service, fully modern dental office with the latest technologies in areas of dentistry ranging from tooth repair and replacement to cosmetic and preventive dentistry. The recently renovated facilities are very comfortable, highly accessible (a few blocks north on Connecticut Ave from the Van Ness Station on the Red Line), and located in an attractive area, just across from a beautiful wooded park, which you can look out upon through large picture windows during your appointment. The Brandywine staff is excellent and easy to work with. After your appointment, you can walk north on Connecticut Ave. to Politics and Prose or south to UDC, Cleveland Park, and the Zoo. There are good and affordable places nearby to eat or to shop. 4.) Pricing and financing. I've compared Dr. Schwartz's prices for various dental procedures to the frequently updated benchmark prices given at health.costhelper.com (a website I recommend) and have found that his prices, before insurance, are well within the average range. There's no getting around the high prices of medical and dental services these days, but I think that Dr. Schwartz and his staff have addressed this concern by inventing a new kind of in-house dental insurance which they call "Smile Club". For the price of a one-year membership in Smile Club, about $400, you'll get 15% off the price of any dental services or products that you purchase during the year. And you don't need to spend a lot of money to recoup your investment: Just taking advantage of the free dental cleanings and x-rays that are included as part of the deal will put you in the black on a Smile Club. I know from personal and email interactions that the Brandywine staff is very cooperative and helpful on the financial side of things. They're committed to making it work for you. I have been going to Brandywine Dental Care for a decade and I cannot recommend this practice enough. They have always provided exceptional care for me - from the simple to complex cleaning, to cavities, to complex root canals, and implants. Over the years they have steadily improved the tools at their disposal to stay current with leading edge products as they become available. Over the years they have made sure to carefully craft and adjust my treatments. I have always been impressed with their honesty and integrity. They never just give you one course of treatment, but offer multiple options, timelines, and payment options. They have a person always dedicated to helping work with your insurance providers to ensure you have the best financial options available. While we all recognize that there are multiple options and practices in the neighborhood, I know I will never leave this practice and will recommend them to the highest degree possible. Yes there are other options, but this practice is firmly rooted in honesty, integrity, and really cares about their patients health and well being. Myself and others have come to find this practice to not only be a great provider for the entire family and serve a wide demographic in the community, but they really are part of the community. They have established themselves as an integral and caring part of our community which you really cannot manufacture with a press kit or flyer - they have earned it through their integrity, hard work, and genuine love for their patients. In fact, this practice very early on in the 2020 pandemic sent much of their spare medical equipment to serve some hard hit areas of New York to serve others. They did this not for press, but for the genuine care of others. I would say that this practice knows my mouth better than anyone. For those with complex bites, they have become masters at adjusting fillings for sensitive teeth. One key example of the care that they take is, shortly before the pandemic they decided to do a preventative diagnostic to just see the state of my mouth. They discovered a very bad and undetected abscess that if left undiscovered would have led to very bad consequences. They laid out a course of action and have honestly saved my life and repeatedly followed up to ensure that I was safe and doing better. My family has been going to Brandywine Dental for several years now. Between the four of us (two children, two adults), we've had cleanings, crowns, fillings, tooth extractions, one dental implant, and two root canals. Almost all of our procedures (aside from cleanings) have been performed by Dr. Schwartz or Dr. Deckard. (We actually came to Brandywine because we were following Dr. Deckard from our old practice.) Other reviewers have complained about insurance--it is true that their practice is out-of-network for many insurance companies, and that means they will file/submit the cost to your company, which will cover whatever it covers and you have to pay the difference. Having said that, we've found their billing department to be communicative, honest, up-front, and resourceful in this regard. We realize that we may sometimes be paying more out of pocket than if we stayed in-network, but we still keep going to them year after year because they are simply excellent. They really care about their patients--at least that's what we've experienced over the years. We have never found them to be pushy or manipulative in recommending treatments. Their facilities are high-tech and comfortable. Dr. Schwartz and Dr. Deckard are exceptionally skillful, accomodating, and friendly, as are the assistants, hygienists, and the fabulous ladies in reception and billing. Hands down one of the best dental offices I've been to. Every time I come in I'm greeted with friendly staff. Kim and Miriam are AMAZING dental hygienists and are extremely knowledgeable and thorough. They make things easy to understand but still fill you in on everything you need to know. I appreciated being shown my teeth in detailed photos with explanations on what was going on. For years I've had slight damage on a tooth and no dentist has ever commented on it until this practice and they even offered me several options on how to fix it (it's a cosmetic procedure as well and there was no pressure to do anything about if I didn't want to which was even better). They even do some oral surgery and so it was wonderful to be given a consultation on what I need to have done and to schedule it with their office. I've been seen by at least all of their dentists once and they're lovely and experienced. They also are reassuring about any concerns I have. While they don't technically take my insurance their pricing is actually extremely reasonable and they work with me to work with my insurance company to get the reimbursements and pay them which I think is great instead of forcing me to pay for everything upfront and get reimbursed later. Compared to my last dentist this is practice is incredible and has made me more motivated to maintain my six month appointments and be on top of things. read more

The entire team at Brandywine Dental Care is amazing and they have been for the 9 years that I've been a patient. However, this is the first time I'm writing a review about the services the provide because prior to last week I've just been telling all of my friends and neighbors about how great the practice is but last week, I was simply blown away! Dr. Adam Schwartz removed my three wisdom teeth (I only had three, I'm evolved). The surgery was smooth and totally pain-free and the recovery was also pretty painless. My face never swelled and I didn't need opioids during my recovery just a little advil. I have no idea how much skill must go into removing teeth with no pain during or after the surgery but from the horror stories I've heard from my friends about the recovery period it is clear that Dr. Schwartz is simply the BEST! I always feel very nervous and uncomfortable going to the dentist, it's generally a really painful experience for me. I had a really great experience because all of the staff members are all very genuine, thoughtful and professional. I especially appreciated how Dr. Deckard explained everything thoroughly and made sure all of my questions/concerns were immediately addressed. The other assistants who did my imaging and cleaning were also wonderful. I appreciated how gentle and careful they were through each step. Lastly, the admin staff was very direct about the out-of-pocket cost and payment options should I choose to come back for another procedure. I was having issues with pain for several years and no dentist I went to could diagnose it. Dr. Schwartz listened to me and with his extensive knowledge and state-of-the-art equipment diagnosed the problem. He then went to work fixing the issue. FINALLY NO PAIN! I am so happy! After fixing the issue, I needed implants. Dr. Schwartz always took my comfort into consideration during all the procedures. Brandywine Dental Care is an excellent practice, with state of the art equipment. All the doctors are wonderful, attentive and very gentle. I have had extractions, ceramic restorations and periodontal treatment and have received the best care ever there. Dr. Schwartz was compassionate, caring and an outstanding dentist. The last dentist I went to was very rough and I was sore until the next day after some simple routine work. Dr. Schwartz was very delicate and precise. It was a great experience (for going to the Dentist!). Staff was pleasant and friendly too! The Dental Hygienists are top of the line. This office also has great hours, they offer appointments at 7:00 am, and when they have openings for appointments, they will announce it so that their customers can take advantage.
