Juiceless Janny has wreaked a special kind of hell on dear old Danny. As the first week of Feb…read morecontinues fermentation free, I decided a detoxifying push was in order to try and wrest some of this lost energy back. My new-age gluten-free green-juice-smoothie raw-paleo-primal tee-totalling pals had suggested a colonic, without the hint of a smirk. They even have a "lady" they go to, whose the best in the biz... ahem. I seriously pondered on that, for about 3 seconds, before I remembered our fearless community leader's tale of floatation freedom. This seemed at least equal on a toxin purging scale to a colonic without the required courage. The issue? distance. All floatation services are out in the middle of the whoop part of nowheresville. I was therefore forced to tackle something I was familiar with, and went to Natural Path, to get my fix. I've been here a number of times, and I've found the service to be of a high standard. I generally get either 45 or 60 minute reflexology only, and if you have never had that, it is basically the stimulation of your organs via a 3rd party massaging your feet... to purge toxins. Depending on how badly you need a detox (and how much pressure is applied) you can get quite a bad migraine from any kind of massage, but especially reflexology so you need to drink plenty of water before and after to ensure the toxins leave your body and you have residual water in your system. * The quick run-down. You walk up to counter, ask for what you want from the list, then they usher you behind a curtain depending on your selection. Reflexology means you'll be in a lazy-boy style chair, reclined, so they can access your feet. They will clean/sanitise your feet with antiseptic wipes, before applying pressure to one side, and then the other, often with the aid of massage oil. Once complete they tend to slap and knead your feet a bit, before drying them off and sending you on your way * My latest visit here was exceptional. I had a sober spill on Australia day, tumbling ass over face down the front step with busted thongs to land unceremoniously on the concrete, slap bang on my left knee, which now has an unsightly scab. Following that I managed to bang my right foot pinkie TWICE on dumbells, causing it to turn purple. The reflexologist applied particular skill to that toe first, relieving the pain by applying pressure all around the swollen toe. The normal reflexology then commenced and I could feel my organs gurgling away as I sat reclined in the lazy boy. The staff are very quiet here. They have little English, and are focused on doing their job, not making small talk. It allows one to relax, even with the buzz of the shops piercing the thin veil of the curtains, the ambient music and the quietness inside, can allow you to switch off and just let the toxins be released. The price point here is comparable with just about every other place I have been to, though I have received sturdier reflexology (some places use a tool like a sewing needle to apply more intense pressure). However, I had an intense migraine last night, and feel like a million bucks today, so it obviously worked --- managed to lose 3 kilos too :)
