Never had I considered going for an adjustment at a chiropractor for numerous reasons that are all myths. First, the treatment would be painful, which I find out later isn't the case. Second, a chiropractor isn't a real doctor. Not the case, like any other MD, they need to go through school, taking exams in order to earn their license. Third, adjustments are dangerous. That sound when you neck and your back crack. Argh! Fourth, Chiropractors treat the back and neck. Not true, in fact I started going for shoulder pain, but now my we are trying to resolve pains in my hands. Fifth and final reason I never went, I won't be "cured" by a chiropractor. While they uses alternate methods and non-drug options, I have received relief from previous pains. I've known Dr. Val for about 6 years, but only recently started seeing him on a regular basis as my chiropractor. For some of the reasons listed above, I had never given this sort of treatment much of an option when it comes to resolving pain and suffer in my body. Yet, I never like taking medication either and rarely does it resolve pain on a permanent basis by getting to the root cause of the pain. After numerous shoulder surgeries I have struggled with pain in my left shoulder that would wrap around to my chest. After a torn bicep was reattached, a second surgery a year later required the shoulder socket to be cleaned because of the accumulation of scare tissue that had built up (from an incorrect running posture). Now, some years later that pain had returned and I did not want more medication prescribed for the issue. Enter Dr. Val and his treatment. I can remember him telling me, "you will feel like a Mack truck hit you after this first session." Guess what, I did, everything on my body hurt, but this was the first step to actually feeling better. That first appointment has turned me into a regular patient, as I visit every Tuesday and/or Thursday to keep the spine and neck in alignment and feeling good. Dr. Val is an excellent chiropractor, patient, willing to explain what he's going in order to make you feel comfortable. Take nothing away from the added conversation through out the session. Recently, we added a second session a week to resolve numbness in my fingers and pain in my thumbs. It's something I've been struggling with for about 5 years. At 51, it's probably carpal tunnel syndrome, but attempting a few months of treatment to see if we can resolve the pain and numbness without surgery. I just came from my 1st chiropractic appointment ever, this was the best experience! I called Dr. Val's office at 9am this morning, asking for an appointment hopefully today at 11am, which he did have open! He booked me very quickly, I showed up filled out my paperwork and he immediately took me back. Doc Val is simply the best! I started seeing him 6 years ago after seeing several other chiropractors, MD's and an acupuncturist, none of which helped with my problem. After just one visit I felt much better and after a few visits my neck problem and numbness in my fingers was gone. Since then my husband and I have seen him twice a week and feel better than we have most of our lives. I have fibromyalgia and have seen Dr's most of my life due to it. I had previously been put on antidepressants and was told to take an excessive number of Advil per day. Basically I was told I needed to learn to manage the pain.
