The gardens are well-maintained and make for a peaceful escape from the busier parts of the city. There's a nice variety of plants and flowers throughout the grounds, and depending on the season, there's plenty of colour and interesting displays to enjoy. One of my favourite parts was simply walking through the conservatory and taking my time exploring. It's not a huge attraction, but that's part of its charm--it feels relaxing rather than overwhelming, and you can appreciate everything at your own pace. The grounds are clean, the staff are friendly, and it's a great spot for photos, a quiet stroll, or just spending some time surrounded by nature. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it's relatively small, so you can see most of it fairly quickly. I also have not explored the entire garden yet so I can't say I experienced it fully. Still, it's a beautiful local gem and well worth a visit if you're in Springfield. Overall: 4 stars. A peaceful and well-kept botanical garden that's perfect for a relaxing afternoon.

In the Illinois House chamber, Lincoln made his House Divided speech in June 1858, announcing his candidacy for the U.S. Senate. It was to the same chamber, in May 1865, that his body was returned to lie in state, arriving from Washington, D.C., prior to final burial in Springfield's Oak Ridge Cemetery.

We enjoyed the Underground Railroad display and stories in the old Supreme Court Chambers. This place is kind of big and you can schedule at least an hour to see everything. The docents/volunteers are excellent, everyone that we talked to was warm, informed and clearly enjoyed their time with us patrons. The day we were there two musicians were playing period music. They were very good, and while it did get a little personally annoying, it did really put you in time and place for the subjects. Both of the relatively short theater presentations are worthwhile, so plan accordingly so you can watch both. There was one display depicting the slavery auction block. It is a gut punch to anyone with a human heart, regardless of your outer wrapping.

You are in the Land of Lincoln!…read more The world looks better here. This is the official Prairie State. Unlock your trip to this beautiful city. Ok, you must go and visit the many museums that have opened and then been remade to modernized means. This place has some epic views of how Lincoln lived throughout his time as a young adult and into the last days of his life. After Lincoln left for Washington he came back home in full glory in a box. See his legacy presented in full honors. There is a piece of Lincoln in so many different places here. It's captured and beautifully illustrated for all to see. For this is our story. In fact it's why we are here! Living a story from so long ago, from this man's perspective his legacy and story began here maybe never left . When you come home you see all those memories, but it's different because you're different. When you're here make sure and stop by the Dana Thomas House. This place has a pulse. No photos inside while on the tour, but it's worth it. You don't want to miss anything. Life has this special feeling that needs to be lived and stepping into this house has that same energy . The old routes of 66 pass through the city make sure and see something before its luster is gone. We forget about the past and then we see it and stay in those memories. Go out and explore the many lakes and other places to see the beauty of nature. For here in Springfield it's all around.

This is nice just to reflect and admire it. For sure this gets overlooked but check it out while you're in this cemetery. It's pretty close to the other war memorials. Take a few minutes and walk around to see all of these.
