I signed up for the MudHen 8k in New Jersey in April. I do not remember opting in for any kind of trial membership - I don't ever do that. Today, I got an email welcoming me to their membership along with a receipt for an $89.95 charge for membership fees. I was livid. I went onto the website and immediately canceled it and I have sent two email and a message to their Facebook group telling them I want a refund. DO NOT USE ACTIVE NETWORK FOR YOUR RACE REGISTRATION Terrible company. What more can i say. Race Directors and Event Organisers need to stay away from this company. They lead you into signing up with their company for 3 years and tell you its only for a year. There is also an auto enrol clause in the contract which is so sneaky and you have to make sure you tell them you are leaving before a year from the end of the 3 years or you are tied into another 3 years. This should definitely not be aloud in a contract and they send it to you on an email to click a box. This is definitely misrepresentation and entrapment and they prey on smaller companies and threaten them with legal action if you try and leave. I would love to see a small company question these horrible contracts in court and win. They also lead your participants into auto enrolling into their Active Advantage scheme without them knowing they are signing up to it and then make it very difficult to get a refund - and that's if your participants actually realise they sign up as there is no confirmation email sent. Just reading other reviews, I am now worried that they have not paid us all of our registration fees, as we have trusted their accounts department in paying us what we are owed. This is now very unlikely reading others reports. They also took double payments from some of our participants who had only realised on studying their bank statements. I wonder how many never realised! Please please please, do not use this company as you cannot trust them at all. I would not sign up to an event myself if i saw this company were managing the registration. We had many of our participants waiting until race day to sign up so they didn't have to use their scamming system. Their bad service will reflect on your reputation. STAY AWAY! read more

I have used Active.com for registering participants in volleyball tournaments for many years. It has been nothing but problems from glitchy software, to lack of notifications when a participant registers, to bogus charges to participants and numerous other issues. Their support team does respond in a courteous and timely manner but new problems crop up as soon as the old one is fixed. I stayed with them for many years thinking it would smooth out. They are also very pricey. I would recommend using a different service. read more

Awful company. I also registered for the ramble race at Drew University and this company stole my credit card info and enrolled me in their services. I did however have a pleasant exchange with a rep named Bill who refunded me the money and stated there was an OPT OUT during the time when I registered for Race. WATCH OUT! This company is trying to steal from you! I registered for a race and 45 days later my credit card got charged $79.95 for services I NEVER agreed to, opted in to or was aware of. Had to wait on hold to even get customer service to answer my call for 20 minutes and then the customer service rep hung up on my after we cancelled my subscription (that I never agreed to in the first place). Moral here is keep your eyes open for any default "opt in" check boxes when registering for races or activities - not ok!! read more

Don't sign up they charge you automatically after 30 days and there is NOWHERE on the website to delete your account or remove your credit card info. I had to call and wait 1 hour on the phone for a representative to get on the phone and when I asked them how to delete my account he said to "look around" on the site. This is a scam. They basically charge you for the "privilege" of paying for events you were going to do anyway.

I signed up on January 14th 20,19 for the Terrain Race in Austin, TX, USA on May 19th, 2019. I recieved an event confirmation from Cool Events LLC, and a receipt for the transaction which totaled to $17.04, and included a Participant Event Insurance and Venue Fee, and a 1Wish Foundation Donation. I was not asked if I wanted to be charged $89.95 on February 13th, and yet charged I was for an annual subscription to Active that I never requested (the subscription gets you coupons and other not-well-defined CRAP). I do not understand how this is a legitimate business practice, it is certainly unethical and seems illegal; I opened an issue through ACTIVE's website, wherein told them not to use my credit card information any more, cancel all my subscriptions and affiliations with ACTIVE, and please issue me a refund for the unsolicited annual subscription. If my bank does not help me with this and block them from charging my card, I assume I have to cancel this credit card and replace it. This whole experience feels like a scam, and getting scammed gets 1 star. read more

This company is terrible! Two years ago I signed up for a race and got charged a $69.95 fee, a month after I signed up for the race. I was on the phone for over 30 minutes to get the charge reversed without an apology. They deceive you and trick you into signing up for the membership. A year after that, I got hit with another $69.95 on my bank account as an auto renewal from Active when I specifically told the person on the phone to cancel my membership and was guided on how to cancel auto renewal. A few months ago I signed up for a half marathon. I made sure to read carefully as to not get deceived into joining the membership. A month ago I saw I was once again charged!!! I was furious but held my composure when I called active. I lost my patience when the Active employee raised her voice with me, telling me it was my fault and I should have read everything. She continued to say she would not cancel the membership, as this was my fault. As soon as I demanded to speak to her manager, she was able to reverse the transaction after 30 minutes on the phone. Active is a deceiving company. It would be wise for all races to use another company. read more

If there was a negative one star I will use it. This is the second year I go through this exercise. In 2017 I signed up for the Tour de Lopez (TDL) through Active because this was the only way to sign up for this bike ride. They automatically signed me up for Active Advantage and charged the credit card which I used for the TDL for the premium membership. I contacted them and contacted my credit card company and got refunded. This year they did the same thing. I was never informed that they are going to sign me up automatically again even though their FAQ says they will contact a month before hand. DO NOT provide your credit card to this website. There is no place on the website to remove a credit card. I just spent 25 minutes on hold until I got somebody to answer the phone - So I took the opportunity to write this review. That is the only way to remove a credit card. They will automatically sign you up for the premium membership even though you DO NOT ask for it AND despite what their FAQ says they will NOT inform you that they will automatically charge any credit you use with them for the premium membership before they do it. I strongly recommend all activities to STOP using them. read more

Like so many others, I somehow "signed up," for $69.95, for Active Network's "service," even though I had no recollection of it, am generally really careful with online signups for everything, etc etc. I was placed on hold for quite awhile before they would talk with me on the phone, and then the guy argued with me, and kept insisting I "signed up for it," when I kept stating I did not, and asking for a refund. Eventually he relented. He would not agree to send me an email confirming this, although I did receive an email a few days after the call. The Vermont Attorney General went after them, and I think the AG for at least one other state (both within the last few years), and in Dec. '16, a settlement for exactly this kind of deceptive practice was reached in a class action suit in CA - although in it, they admitted no liability, and the suit was limited to just CA residents. I would love to know if anyone else is in Virginia is interested in sending a letter to the VA State Attorney General. Thanks. read more

She claims that it was a 3step process which I remember clicking on to the first process saying I didn't want any special offers. Shady company. I have used active.com for years to sign up for running races. I always thought I was happy with them, until I I was notified by my credit card company of a suspected fraudulent charge from active.com. They charged me $79 and I had not used them to sign up for anything in a couple months. I got on their webpage and find a huge page dedicated to "why do I have this charge on my credit card." Clearly I'm not the only person. I marked the charge as fraudulent with my credit card because I never authorized it and then I called active.com. When I spoke to them they said that I agreed to become a member of active.com with auto renewal and this was a renewal year. I told him that I never authorized this and I have no need for their services with that program. I told them I only use it to sign up for 4 to 5 races every year. She again said that I selected to join. I never would've done that. I told them I want them to stop trying to charge my card and to refund me any previous years charges, because they were being shady and slipped it in when I was signing up for other races. The girl I was talking to said she was only authorized to handle this years charges. I told her to let me speak to a supervisor. She told me the supervisors don't have phones, but will make a "case" for me and I will either get an email or phone call back. This sounds like a perfect company for a class action based on their shady practices. I'm suprised I never heard about this before with them. read more

I actually just created an account to Yelp so I can share my horrible experience. About a year ago I signed up for some local acting classes through this website.TERRIBLE MISTAKE. SOMEHOW instead of ONLY paying for my acting classes I was also signed up for some 70$ a year membership WITHOUT MY KNOWING. Imagine my surprise when on January 1st I check my bank statement and am missing this amount of money with no other information than a phone number and the name Active. IF this had been a pleasant process I MIGHT not have been so upset -but- the man who answered the phone was so mean and condescending and downright rude that I left the conversation even more upset and confused than I was in the beginning. Throughout the entire conversation he would not let me ask any questions without say something in return like "well if you didn't want the free stuff just say no thank you" wait, really?! It's not FREE and if I HAD known what a scam you guys were I would have just paid cash in person for my classes just so I would not have to deal with you all! I have never been treated so bad over the phone before. I THINK the guy said I was going to be getting a refund by this time next week. We will see. In the meantime, I WILL NEVER be using this website again and will also be contacting the theater where I took my classes to let them know what a disappointment this website is. Due to the other negative reviews and my own issues with Active, I will also be going over this with a lawyer friend who works with this kind of stuff to see what he has to say. read more

The company sent through a double authorization for my race registration. They keep claiming the bank must fix it, while the bank says they must (obviously, because their software sent the authorization). They were aware of this glitch, knowing that it affected pretty much any customers who registered in a 48-hour span, yet they did nothing to notify these customers, rectify the mistake, or make it up to their customers. This is wholly unacceptable. So, almost a week later, I still have a "pending" charge on my account barring me from access to my money because of their mistake. I have contacted them repeatedly and even escalated my call to a supervisor, but still was offered no solution. I was told this was just an "unfortunate mishap that wasn't really anyone's fault." That is a bald-faced lie and I have had it with this company. I've been a customer for several years. I even had the Advantage membership. I've cancelled everything and will not be doing anything through this company anymore. read more
