This place has a lot of bang for your buck. I came here on a Wednesday night and the place was packed! They have specials like 3 and 4 course meals and the service is fun loving. Our waiter was cracking jokes with us the whole time and I wish I remembered his name. :-( I ordered the 4 course meal for just $19.95. What a deal! I ordered their famous 6 onion soup for $1 more, I had the Greek salad, Beef & Orzo and finally a baklava sundae. OH MY GOD! This was such an incredible meal. Let me start with that incredible six onion soup. The puffed pastry on top is what makes this soup a double meal. I loved it and the broth was pretty good. I enjoyed the Greek salad as well since it had a lot of garlic in it. And the beef tips were tender and plentiful with a thick sauce that I could not stop eating. Then the sundae was freaking delicious. I was not even hungry when it came out but I every bit of it. I hear they are opening a second location in the previous Wayfare space and although I am sad to see Wayfare and that yummy chicken sandwich go, Acropolis deserves to expand. Acropolis is easy to find with free parking on a not so busy part of Veterans. The menu is extensive and they have a large $15.99 prix fixe list of daily specials. I grew up in Detroit, with a kickass Greektown, so I can be kind of a Greek food snob. Other places in this area are not as fresh as Acropolis. My waiter was a kind, knowledgeable guy (loudtalker) who is enthusiastic about service and really knows his stuff. With an extensive menu, I was impressed, but hard pressed to choose. My meal came quickly, hot and delicious. Restaurant was quiet but near full with a mix of regulars. Everything was fresh, flavorful and big portions with a enough for a side snack to go. A couple of friends and I went to Acropolis around 5pm on a Sunday evening. Although the parking lot is small and shared with other businesses, there was plenty of parking available. It seemed to be the perfect time to visit. Our waiter was fantastic! He was great at explaining the menu and giving suggestions. They had a 4 course special for $19.99 with several soup, salad and entree choices. I went with the 6 onion soup, Greek salad and an entree which name I cannot pronounce or remember. I'm not a soup person, so wasn't really feeling the soup. The salad was excellent! I will return for that alone. The entree was a flounder fish wrapped in pastry crust with a side of vegetables. The fish was big and thick. Personally, I prefer thinner pieces of fish. It had a good, distinct flavor in some portions and was lacking flavor in other portions. If the flavor would have carried all the way through, I would have loved it. I chose baklava for dessert and it was really good. I paid extra for a shot of Greek coffee (similar to espresso). It was different and strong, but I enjoyed it. I'd definitely be willing to return and try something different. read more

Located in an unassuming outdoor shopping area on Veterans Blvd, Acropolis is a small restaurant with an impressive variety of consistently flavorful dishes. You can find gyro and other pita-based sandwitches for lunch; baked and grilled fish; lentil, onion, and avgolemono soup, amongst others; veal parmesan, moussaka, and spanikopita. Of course you'll have to look at the menu to really view all the options. Even though the restaurant is small and generally busy, there seems to be a steady rhythm of people coming and going, so don't get discouraged if you are asked to wait. I've never heard of this place, but my cousin brought me here because it's his favorite place. My first impression was that their menu was kind of all over the place, so I just settled for the $20 4 course meal... it was actually amazing. My cousin had ordered the Spinach and cheese pies, which are not a part of the 4 course deal, but these were delicious - paired with the tomato sauce, it was even better. 5/5 would definitely get again. The 4 course also came with a salad of choice - I chose Caesar (not pictures) - which was standard, and a soup of choice - I chose cauliflower soup. When I think of cauliflower, I think it's not quite tasty, but that soup was something to come back for - 5/5. The texture reminded me of something very similar to a broccoli & cheese soup, without the cheese. Lastly was the chicken acropolis!! It was so delicious!! Ahh!! It's pasta with red sauce with chicken and cheese. The chicken was cooked perfectly. I could do without the cheese but not a deal breaker. 5/5 Was makes this place a 5/5? My best friend suggested lunch here today and it was such a cute little place. The menu had a Greek and Italian influence. You could get pasta or gyro plate! Tzaziki was home made with lots of dill and very good pita bread. We splurged and got a baklava sundae for dessert and I had never had anything like it. SO tasty! Thumbs up! read more

Incredible meal! Took my mom here for her birthday lunch on a friend's suggestion, and I'm glad I did! The island flounder special was absolutely delicious. I loved the distraction because the Muslim culture is not friendly to Alcohol, we party-ed it up before taking a 10-day tour of drinking Saudi Champagne - apple juiced and Pellegrino (or returning back to Europe). I was shown so much about Greek cooking, and I found many of those treats on the Acropolis menu - Starting with the Calamari - Kalamaraki ? which I became addicted to. We were greeted immediately and warmly by our server. Seat yourself. Drink order. Quick service. They had a 4 course special with your choices of soups, salads, entrees and desserts for 19.95. It was a LOT of food. Our table had to get to go boxes for dessert. Our friends go there for the 6 onion soup. It looked creamy and delicious. Cheesy with large phyllo dough top. I'll definitely order this next time. I had calamari which was crisp flaky breading and perfectly cooked. It had a good mix of rounds and tentacles which I like. My partner had the gyro platter and couldn't finish it all. Smelled great. They were very busy but our food was served timely, everything was fresh and our drink glasses stayed full. The service is super friendly and attentive - I chatted with the owner and staff while I waited for my to-go order. They could not have been more pleasant and professional. I had the spinach and cheese pie (exceptional), six onion soup (superb) and the baklava (astounding). I will be trying other local, family-owned places while I'm in New Orleans for work, but I will be back to this place several more times while I'm here - and bringing colleagues! This has always been my Go-to restaurant for great Greek food and more. but my last visit was a huge disappointment. I got the gyro sandwich. There was much less meat than usual... but the worst part was that the super thin meat was dried out and hard, I don't think they carve their own meat like they used to. It's much too thin now so it's easy to overcook. the only redeeming thing is that they make the best taziki sauce I've ever had. looks like I'll need to find a new place to get my gyro fix. read more

My family used to come here every other week when I was 13 and I always craved coming back but never did, hat was a HUGE mistake. I remember why I loved it small family restaurant feel where service can't be beat and feels like a little pita Greece (no puns?). Shawn was very attentive and had great picks on what to get. The calamari appetizer may be the best calamari I've had in years probably the best in new orleans. It was super light and crispy and didn't need to be in drowned it marina sauce to be delicious (although the marina was good too). The eggplant surrell had me breaking my diet. I was a big fan of the blended cheese. The fried eggplant had a thicker breading and the eggplant still stayed together and held its flavor too. The spinach was fresh as the menu implies. For those of you with more adventurous souls, you might want to take a minute and stop in to eat. I am crazy over a good dessert with some hot coffee and this just set a high bar that I will be comparing all others. OMG I just had the baklava served warm with the most aromatic sauce. The smell hits you in the roof of your mouth just adding that extra something to the dining experience. This was my first time trying Greek food in New Orleans and I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant has a very relaxed and comfortable environment. I ordered the gyros platter that comes with a small Caesar salad and pita bread. I chose grilled vegetables as my side, which was flavorful and grilled to perfection. The entree portion overall was quite generous at a decent price. The gyros meat was tender and crispy but not too crispy (Goldilocks-approved). The polite waiter was always two steps ahead and read my mind when offering a to-go box, which he proceeded to pack for me in the back. The service was very prompt despite nearly every table being full. The sign is a bit arbitrary making it hard to be sure I was at the right place, but I soon figured it out. After reading Shercole's glowing review, I bookmarked this spot and made immediate plans to have lunch here. I stopped in here on a late Sunday afternoon after doing some Metairie shopping. There was really no one here, but I was greeted with a smile and told that I could sit anywhere. Looking over the menu, I saw typical Greek food, but they also have other offerings such a lasagna and ravioli. I decided to start with the Mediterranean hummus which came topped with olives, sun dried tomatoes and olives and a side of warm pita The serving was huge and it was really tasty. I liked that it wasn't doused with olive oil and the hummus was allowed to stand on it's own. For my entree I got the gyro wrap, which was a huge wrap that was packed with beef, lamb, lettuce, tomato, grilled peppers and onions. This wrap was delicious! I'm not a person who seeks out lamb, but I enjoy it when the opportunity presents itself and I really enjoyed it here. For my side I got the pasta and marinara, which was okay, but nothing spectacular. Be aware that the Lebanese tea is nearly $4, which is a little pricier than other places. They did offer the 4 course lunch special on the day I was here, but it wasn't really Mediterranean food, so I decided to skip it. I would go back just for the hummus alone. I always start with the hummus, which is always so tasty and fresh with warm, soft, yummy pita bread each time. At this location, I have tried the lamb chops and lamb kabobs and both are delicious. Juicy, flavorful and cooked just right. I had no issues and enjoy the herbs found in the mix! Another cool thing about this location is there a 4 Course for 19.. Yep, you heard me right. You will be FULL when you leave here. This is a great location for a family outing with between 3 to maybe 6 people. If closer to 6 people make sure to call. Keep in mind this is a small location. This is a very small restaurant. It was full when we got there. Wait was about 20 min. They were offering a 4 course meal for $19.95. We started with 6 onion soup which comes out with a bowl with a crescent roll on top. It's a cream soup and was delicious. Second course was a Greek salad that was out of this world. Full of feta cheese. It was way bigger than expected since it was included in the four courses. I got the pan fried red fish which was huge. It was light and crispy. My husband got the osso bucco which came with rice pilaf. Everything was delicious. Fourth course was dessert for me, tiramisu. My husband got baklava. Huge portions of food and all was very tasty.
