As much as it's more convenient to go to Home Depot or Lowe's, I do try to give business to Ace Hardware since they're more of the small community type store that has a bunch of small locations in towns on Maui.
While it's true that there's really no fully locally owned hardware stores that I know of anymore, I try to give some support to the ones that do their best to make things convenient for the local residents. I believe they were also around longer than either Home Depot and Lowe's.
Their normal prices are a little higher than the big stores, their selection tends to be a little more limited, but the workers know the store and their products pretty well from my personal experience, and are usually able to help me find whatever I need in a very short time, or point me in the right direction (Home Depot or Lowe's) if they don't have what I'm looking for. read more
