Good physician and nurses but, this old hospital emergency room and restrooms are filthy…read more The emergency entrance was difficult to find.

So the only reason it has a 1 star rating is because a couple of the staff that I encountered was…read moregreat, but that is the only positive thing I can say about this hospital. I went in because I was having a hard time breathing because of iron deficiency. I was scheduled for a transfusion next week, but the symptoms were too much so I went to the emergency room. It started out ok, they started running tests and such, it came back my iron was low and they discussed a transfusion. I questioned the doctor to understand something on a procedure that didnt seem to fit the problem, and he seemed to get quite offended that I dare to question what he was doing. I am also diabetic and while in the er, I felt my blood sugar drop as I hadnt eaten anything all day. I mentioned to the dr and nurse and they both told me there was a possiblity of a scope being done and i couldnt have anything until that was determined. I understand that but I asked what happened if my blood sugar dropped so much that I pass out and the response was we can fix that with glucose. So I questions why isnt it better to use preventative actions to make sure it doesnt happen vs fixing it afterwards. Doesnt that seem backwards. They didnt do a scope by the way and the dr that was supposed to order the scope acted surprised I hadnt eaten. They offered me two dried up pieces of bread with one very thin sliced piece of mystery meat and a packet of mayo and mustard. YUM! The ER started my transfusion and brought me up and admitted me for the night. When brought up to my room, the room looked very dingey at first sight. I dont know for sure, but there was some dark brown stains on the ceiling that looked like it could be blood and some red stains on the bathroom floor below the stain as well and tub was absolutely disgusting! The nursing staff for the most part was pretty good to me, but my machine kept shutting off for the transfusion because of the slightest movements and they sometimes wouldnt come back in for over an hour to turn off the alarm and start it again, so it took 7-8 hours for me to get most of the bag in. There were a couple nurses that were talking about their frustrations with the ER nurse because there were some issues with info being shared on my case and they didnt have all the info they needed. Reassuring and real professional as well to do that in front of a patient. I had a nurse insist several times that I wear the nonslip socks even though I politely declined several times and then yelled at me to wear them the last time I got up. The communication in this hospital is not great either. I had people coming in to check blood sugars and then 15 minutes another to do the same, I would have to tell them it just got done. Same with blood draws as well. I asked for tylenol/ibuprofen for pain and had to complain the next day because nobody gave it to me. When I did, the nurse also asked me if I wanted something for anxiety. I politely declined, she then pushed again saying it would help, Again, politely declined. She attempted to get me to take some 4 times before I told her I was an addict and didnt want the pills that I can calm myself down. My iron went up a little and they released me despite still having the same symptoms and having difficulty breathing and ended up in the er again the next day. only to get the same tests they did Saturday. They saw my iron levels had went up again and said they couldnt do anything for me and sent me home again Mind you my blood pressures were really high and still struggling to breath, but they treated me like nothing was wrong and I was faking and sent me home again. Now there are more things I could mention, but i think the general idea is there. Hendricks, I was hesitant to come to you because I have heard that the company is not great and lots of complaints about the care, but I really didnt have any other options at the time. I will not go back if I can help it. Im not typing this review just to complain, but Hendricks I hope you really read this and try to improve. Your healthcare services really need some work. Communications between departments and staff need to be way better and maybe even a little more compassion and being thorough in determining what is wrong with patients before dismissing them. I did not feel confident in my care at this hospital at all and I will now be driving a distance to another town to do my medical care. This is unacceptable in my opinion.
