The chicken burrito and steak nachos were so much food I didnt even touch the chicken fajitas. This place is *cheap* and great. After three or four meals at Acapulco, I can't say the food is particularly good--in fact, sometimes it's pretty lousy. But it is: a) cheap, b) filling and c) served in a homey, legit Mexican diner atmosphere that's almost entirely free of pretense. There are other pluses: frosty mugs with your beers (they have a good selection of south of the border brews, including the hard to find and delicious Bohemia), rich, creamy guacamole, as well as an expansive menu that covers most bases. When my wife and I moved into our place on Clay Street almost four years ago, we imagined how great it would be if the Mexican place on the corner was actually good. We ordered burritos for take out that night and couldn't believe the huge portions on rice, beans and veggies, all quite fresh, for less than $5 apiece. And the food was really good. It has remained a staple. The menu spans Mexican and American diner food: good burgers to go along w/ burritos, "authentic" tacos, quesadillas, tostatas, tortas, fajitas, and (my favorite) huaraches. The chips and red sauce (home made) are irresistible. The guacamole is good, too. Cheap beer, large coolers full of drinks, and decent coffee w/ free refills--what more could you want? Great breakfast food, too. And friendly service that transcends the language barrier. They just put new speakers, so the Latin music can blare that much louder (when they don't have Spanish-language soap operas playing). Now this is great Mexican food. I live two blocks away and have to stop myself from going on all of those nights when I just don't feel like cooking dinner. My absolute favorite is the steak tostada with a side of guacamole and a side of jalapenos. The tostada is incredibly crispy and light and the combination of marinated steak, sour cream, lettuce and a drizzle of their green salsa is perfect. Oh yeah, don't forget to grab a beer from the fridge and ask for a frosty mug with a wedge of lime, it just can't be beat. You have to love the dive vibe. I do, and next time I'm going to sit at the counter like I did when i was a kid with my dad. The atmosphere is seriously great and relaxed. I never imagined a Mexican diner, but here it is in all of its glory. The menu is huge (will have to go back a whole lot to try everything) and the service was diner relaxed and competent. Loved the huge beer and soda selection (am a sucker for Jarritos delicious liquid candy). The chips were intense - thick, crunchy and hot out of the fryer - and maybe too greasy. Salsa was tasty. Burrito, however, was a bit of a letdown. Like a lot of people have said, it's broccoli heavy and a bit bland. Would have loved some tofu or fake meat. This place is close to my house so I decided to check it out since I have a love for Mexican food. The place is a bit of a dive, but luckily I came here to eat and not to enjoy the atmosphere, which isn't horrible, it just is! I had the Carnitas tacos; you get 2 per order and they are properly stuffed with meat, a side of salsa verde and a mini salad on the side. The Carnitas were delicious, not greasy, and piping hot, which means they came right off the grill, which gives them that extra crispness; a lot of places just have the carnitas in a heating dish and serve straight out of there which compromises the crisp. It's real authentic with great price to boot. 2 generously stuffed tacos and a corona = $10. Awesome. The service is fast and friendly, and family orientated which always adds a je ne sais quoi to the atmosphere of a joint. Highly recommend this place for proper Mexican. read more

So I've been eating from this place for many years I'm a native to the area. I decide to order a cheeseburger deluxe for delivery. When I get my order the burger is great but the fries taste funny and looked like a grayish green color. So I decide to call to inform. And the young lady on the phone tells me if I want I can return the fries and receive a dollar credit. I told her that was not the point I just expected to get what I ordered then she goes on saying "that's my opinion and she'll take that" but she's been serving these fries all day and I'm the only one to complain. Wow I was speechless at the poor customer service I received and how they treated me over he phone. I was not rude the delivery guy even got a 3 dollar tip. I walked quite a distance from my place to here. Crossing the bridge from Queens into Brooklyn I passed the street. Local life is buzzing. From the outside, the place looks like something I'd normally skip. It has a very local feel. People speaking spanish -- friendly but not over the top service. Ordered the Fajitas chicken/beef. Guacamole was on point, albeit a bit sour. The meat was plentiful and well seasoned. Ordered a side of sour cream to make it even better, which would cost about 2,25 (expensive side). It was authentic mexican food in a place that doesn't neccesarily looks nice - but good for a quick meal. Price is good. Service is helpful. Food is good. We ordered a burrito each--me the chicken and him the chorizo. I had seen the photos, but these burritos were MASSIVE! So much so that we could have probably just split one and have been very satisfied. They didn't come with gac, which another Yelper had shown, but honestly, the burritos were so good they didn't need it--it would have just been an added bonus. With a welcoming staff and old school diner feel, there's no reason to not want to try Acapulco out. I ordered their nachos with chicken, and my partner in crime got their tacos (carnitas) with a side of refried beans. When our plates came out, my eyes filled with joy when I saw how much cheese was on my nachos. I thought to myself, "this is how nachos should be served." Not one chip was soggy; cheese, chicken and crunch with every bite. The tacos were your typical tacos - tasty, but not out of this world. The refried beans, however, stole the spotlight. I like Acapulco, but I wasn't very fond of it at first. Coming from the South where Mexican food abounds, my expectations are pretty high. Katie S. is right that their veggie fajitas are an atrocity. BLEH. I've found that their beef fajitas (I ask for heavy on the peppers and onions) are pretty good. Excellent guacamole. The service is quick and friendly, and the delivery is particularly awesome. Whoever takes my orders on the phone is very pleasant and understands easily, which is a huge plus. I also like that the menu is pretty extensive, so my boyfriend and I can both be pleased if he's not in the mood for Mexican food. Damn. I've been living across the street from Acapulco for over a year and I'm just now trying it. I wish I would have sooner. Fantastic tacos. I opted for a side of avocado and lime. Everything was fresh and flavorful. Simple tacos just they way I like them: grilled chicken cut into little crispy cubes, fresh cilantro, chopped onions, all on a soft corn tortilla with salsa verde on the side. The service was fast and friendly. The space was clean and organized. Looks like they do a lot of business so things move pretty quickly. My two coworkers ordered the steak torta and chicken tacos, and I had the vegetables huaraches. Portions were huuuge and well worth the moolah. Acapulco is my go-to place when my boyfriend and I are hungry and need something dependable and affordable. We've been here more times than I can count, and we have had the same waitress each time. I hope she gets a day off. Anyways, I love it here. I'm a vegetarian, and they have a decent amount of options for me. The fruit shakes are interesting.. I haven't really figured out if I actually like them. The food, however, is awesome. I've gotten the Garden Club sandwich about 50 times, and it has always been delicious. It is absurdly huge, and a little difficult to maneuver, but once you get a system going, it's heaven. It is on the best bread for a sandwich, lightly toasted, and is filled with lettuce, avocado, tomato, red onion, cucumber, american cheese, and the perfect amount of mayo. The red onion is left on the side with extra lettuce and tomato, in case you don't want it. You also get a pickle on the side. The burritos here are ridiculous. They must be eaten with a fork and a knife, but they are worth the work. My boyfriend swears by the pork and the steak burritos (he is unable to choose a favorite). Their homemade guacamole is so awesome.. it's chunky and spicy and goes well with their warm tortilla chips. They also have a pretty good bottled drink selection, including various types of beer. The television, located on top of one of the refrigerators, is always blasting something hilarious and in Spanish, generally some sort of strange game show. They also sell candy at the counter, and I always finish my meal with a ten-cent Andes chocolate mint. I have no idea if Acapulco is "authentic" Mexican food, and I don't care. read more

They have beer and all sorts of mexican soda's along with your regular american beverages. I ordered a pork burrito for lunch, and while I waited, I watched plate after plate of chicken go out. I thought to myself why do people order the chicken if it looks so dry? I returned to my office with my extra large burrito in hand only to open it up and find chunks of dry looking white meat! I thought they must have got the order wrong because I ordered the carnitas burrito!! I bit into the meat and sadly discovered this was their version of carnitas. Lean pork cooked and then reheated on the flat top. When I order carnitas I assume it is slow cooked pork that has been broken down and then fried to create a nice contrast of textures between the fried bits and the rich fatty tender meat with extra flavor coming from the caramelized bits.
