Loved everything in this store! Not only did this store have something for everyone, it was also…read moreopen past 9pm on a weeknight. That is dedication! The store owner/salesperson was very sweet and patient with the several people who wandered in after having dinner nearby on a spring evening. From nautical clothing to nice affordable beach themed jewelry, and picture frames to souvenir glasses with lighthouses and anchors on them, they really had a lot to offer the average tourist. I don't know the next time I'll be in this area but if I find myself here I will make the effort to get to this wonderful shop by the water!

I know that five stars for this Bar Harbor tourist shop may sound a little excessive, but hear me…read moreout. 1. This shop is a bit smaller than some of the other "tourist trap" shops along the strip, but they have a decent selection of high quality items at competitive prices. 2. This shop is dog friendly and also has the cutest dog who is the shops unofficial mascot. He I older and blind but still incredibly adorable. 3. The staff here is exceptional. They are incredibly receptive to customers but not overbearing and intrusive. The staff here was actually the nicest staff we interacted with while in Bar Harbor. 4. They not only have your generic run of the mill tourist attire, but have a huge selection of hand crafted items from local vendors. The jewelry here was gorgeous and I almost died laughing at a lobster calendar which was made by a local lobster fisherman. Overall, this store deserves the five stars because they treat their customers right and have a great selection of items. A few smiles, small talk and a welcoming vibe goes a long way for me!

I would never have found this shop if it wasn't for the reviews here. It's located off the main…read moredrag so you might miss it if you aren't looking. This is run by a couple, who according to the owner Patrick (who was manning the store when we were there) they aren't artists themselves, but they seek out artists from all over. There is a wide selection of art from sun catchers made of wrapped colored stones, and paintings on wood to vegan leather purses and wood turned pens. We stopped here and purchased a painting my partner wanted and then returned to pick up my purse before returning to the shuttle bus. I just couldn't leave without buying it. I'm sure if we had more time, we would have spent more. Bar Harbor has lots of tourist stuff. If you are looking for that special item to take home, check this place out.

Bottom Line: A lovely building with whimsical and interesting merchandise and friendly staff…read more The Little Mad Shop relocated to Rodick Street in a striking, Victorian-ish building, about a year ago in 2022, I think. The store features unique decor, jewelry, accessories and home items. I spent the most time looking at colorful local artwork, sniffing a variety of perfumes and eyeing up some lovely leather goods. While I didn't buy anything I certainly appreciated the friendly staff and the variety of whimsical an quality items for sale.

This place was friggin' awesome!…read more A truly unique shopping experience in an ocean of expected tourist junk shops. My wife is an avid collector of weird natural stuff so this place delivered a religious experience for her. As one of the other reviewers mentioned, it's like being in a natural history museum. We also regret not buying more stuff but they said they're working on an ecommerce site that should be up soon. Their story is interesting too - it's a family business. The father works in the store while the son is out scouring the world for natural oddities. It's a obviously a labor of love. You can feel the passion behind the items in the store. It feels like a curated collection that you can get your hands on at reasonable prices. Also, the signs accompanying the products are fantastic. My wife and I are both designers/writer so we were geeking out over them. They are beautifully designed and hand lettered and humous - they added a great texture to the experience in the store. It's like J. Peterman from Seinfeld and Louis CK had a baby and he grew up to make signs for this store. Awesome.

We asked a very valid question about one of the pieces and they both rolled their eyes at us and talked to us like we were stupid. My nephew had been in the store after we had left and witnessed a different couple buying something and those same employees were super rude and after they left my nephew heard them say "stupid tourists". I came here last year and had a great experience but who ever they decided to hire needs an attitude adjustment.
