Stayed here for only 2 days as I was going to check out another part of Busuanga Island for the second part of the week. There are no international chain hotels here like Hilton or Sheratons and I was so okay with that.
Some hotels in this town of Coron may have more amenities or better luxuries but for the most part mostly caters to travelers 'on the go' who are active at exploring and indulging in physical activities. This is not a place for first worlders to come and just sit around in plush confines and never do anything outdoors. There are other destinations for those.
What cost me about $55/night is a basic no fills room, small pool access, restaurant service with a bar where you can eat from several different spots. Free breakfast per day. Super basic and since I was only in the room from 9pm to 6am this was enough for me.
I do have to bring up some stuff observed that may or may not help others. Now most will be first world problems so just remember you are more into the provinces/country here so just stay in check on where you are at.
-slow WiFi. You'll be able to look stuff up but you ain't gonna be watching long videos/movies.#firstworldproblems
-dim lighting in the room and in the bathroom.
-loud A/C, I'm in a nicer hotel as I'm writing this and this A/C is smooth and quiet. Double the price but also double the niceness. Wanted a spectrum of services for the week.
-no hot water, maybe warmish to the point where the water wasn't frigid. And in this tropical environment I won't really use much hot water anyways, a good 80-90 degree F is plenty. Don't need those steamy hot showers here. Trust me. But this was slightly cooler than 80, to where the first plunge was a slight jolt. But eventually refreshing.
-slight and occasional but consistent incidences of bugs in the room. A few ants and a few tropical winged things. Lol. I'm not freakish on these things even in the US. This town is in basically what would be a rain forest island if humans didn't take over, so that was my context and frame of mind. Please don't be a pansified bafoon and give a place a 1 star review for going into the tropics and running into bugs. I've seen a few already and it makes me cringe. I just made sure not to eat in the room, even snacks as to give the ants a signal to really come in. They were just exploring around.
-no room service. Not the kind of place to order food to your room, no real place to eat it anyways cept for a small desk. And they'll only clean/tidy your room every 2 days. Which I find great for a short stay as I'd rather not have people in my room if I don't need anything. I only stayed 2 days so I never got the service which was more than fine for me. Now a family with kids, you may want some tidying up.
-they can book any tour for you at the front desk. This was highly convenient for me as I didn't want to deal and shop the different companies.
-food in what I tried was decent to good. Mostly Filipino simple dishes done cleanly and simple. And anytime you eat/drink you won't have to pull out your wallet every time, just charge it to your room. Even after a day or so they'll remember faces with room numbers so everything was so smooth and easy.
-quiet stay. At night most were retired by 10pm and by 7am everyone is scrambling to get on with their activities. And I never even once heard voices coming from the walls. In the US this is fairly common even in $150/night places.
So great place to stay on the cheap and still maintain mid level amenities. Good value and good fit for the occasion. read more
