We purchased our home and due to my husband leaving town unexpectedly for business, we had to sign our closing documents earlier. Our mortgage agents basically contacted the title company on 4:45pm on a Friday night. By the time we arrived at their office(after 5pm), we were greeted with warm smiles and waters by Jessica Palmer who also followed up with us throughout the process. During the signing the staff stayed late and never once rushed us. Jeff made sure he walked us through all the documents until we felt comfortable. We give these guys 2 thumbs up! Matt followed up my email almost immediately and then gave me a call also. I was overwhelmed with how honest and helpful he was. Matt gave me great advice on what to do for my business, and even told me that honestly he didn't believe they were a good fit for my business given my finances. Matt told me outright that he figured it wasn't worth it to hire them given my situation and their cost. I greatly appreciated him telling me the truth rather than just taking my money. The advice he gave was sound also, he spent probably 30-45 minutes without charging me anything to give advice for programs to use, simple ways to integrate programs, and even pointed me at another accountant who might be more inline with what I need. Even though I didn't end up working with them I would recommend them based on their honesty alone.

After giving up on small operators and local folks I went on a journey (google) to find someone who knew what they were doing and I am so glad found the SLC team. I was concerned that they were out of state but that turned out to be a non-issue. The set up process was long and complicated and you should know you are in for a very thorough experience when you hire them. The fees are daunting to a company my size but it is the best investment I have made in my business. They started from scratch and built my QB on line that is correct and detailed and I can feel confident that not only is my data accurate for tax purposes but I am finally able to leverage the historical data to forecast for growth and avoid costly future mistakes. Derek is one of the most amazing people I have ever encountered. He has been my savior through the entire process. He is part time cheerleader, occasion stern father figure and continuous advocate for me and my business. I would not be in the position to even ask for forecasting without his efforts. This is the most confident and comfortable I have ever felt about my business financials and the SLC team deserves much of the credit.

I would strongly advise against working with Angel. My experience revealed serious ethical issues,…read morepersistent communication failures, and a total lack of accountability. The most troubling concern was undisclosed dual agency. I was not told Angel would be representing both myself and the buyer until after the buyer had already toured the property and submitted an offer--far too late to be meaningful or informed. Utah law requires clear written disclosure and consent in dual agency situations, and that simply did not happen. The buyer even told me directly they "didn't use a realtor" and that Angel was "all they knew," yet she still collected the buyer's agent commission. Angel also misled me about the reason we should accept a significantly lower offer, implying there were serious issues with the home. I later learned the $20,000 in "repairs" she referenced were actually ADA modifications for the buyer's child--completely unrelated to the condition or value of our home. That guidance directly cost me financially. Worse still was her complete failure to coordinate the move-out process. I was never consulted on the move-out date or time, and received almost no communication on what to expect. The buyer began showing up at the home frequently, pressuring us to leave because they too needed to move. While they were trying to be polite, they had a timeline to follow--one that Angel should have properly managed with both parties. Instead, we were both left stranded in a poorly handled transition. I ended up being forced to leave behind personal belongings simply because the situation was rushed and mishandled. When I brought these concerns to Angel, there was no ownership, no apology, and no effort to resolve anything. This was her response " I am very well aware of my duties as a licensed real estate agent in the state of Utah. I received my real estate license in 1998 and I have had a Principal Broker license since 2005. I have all necessary documentation in my possession regarding buyer representation and will not be providing any of that documentation to you. I will no longer be communicating with you directly regarding this matter any further." Her approach throughout this process was not just unprofessional--it was negligent and unethical. She collected a commission and did very little. If anything, she hindered the process and severely cost me financially. If you are looking for an agent who will act in your best interest, communicate clearly, and uphold their legal and ethical responsibilities, I strongly recommend you look elsewhere.

Originally starting on this road of finding a house, I was sick of dealing with other realtors who…read moreonly wanted a paycheck rather than delivering top quality customer service, I mean after all when you have life savings being spent I feel that is the least they can do; that is why I decided to go with the Stern Team (based off of reviews and hearing ads). Throughout the process everything seemed to be fine, but as the process grew I became weary that this would just be the same old same old. My wife and I were the ones who found our house not the realtor, I was the one setting up all the appointments, not the realtor and before long I was wondering what it was she was really doing to earn her commission at the end of the day. To her defense she is very nice, and what seemed to be knowledgeable of the market, and she did do the negotiations with the seller (only because I cannot). After everything had been done and we were going to close, I come to find out my realtor was going to be out of town when closing was happening, and she would not be around to give us the keys. She told me that she would go and get the keys and hide them on the property and let me know where they were ones we were funded and recorded. Well that time came and went and wondered where the keys to our new home were.... Well I tried calling her and texting her and no answer, I waited a few hours with no call or text back so I called another realtor in her office, and no one in her office knew anything about what I was talking about. She did not let anyone know what was going on. I then had to convince another realtor in her office to meet me at the house to see if the keys were in the lock box, which I could tell he was very bothered by my request. I was finally able to get a hold of the keys to the house. On top of all of this our realtor didn't give us as much as even a thank you card. Every realtor I have dealt with and every realtor family or friends have dealt with have always given a congratulations gift of some sort as a thank you for the business (even the worst realtors I have dealt with have done this). After all of that I realized that the Stern team is no different than any other realtor and the customer is nothing more than a paycheck to them. I will never go with this team again nor will I ever refer them to anyone I know. Also to let everyone know they charge a "fee" to hire their team, well I can see this fee is nothing more than to get more money out of you. BEWARE!

It was bank owned this time and he forewarned us that it could take months for us to work with the bank who owned it. We weren't in a rush so not a problem. He kept us up to date every step if the way. He even allowed us to include a letter about the meaning of the house to us in the offer. He was always there for us to text or call. Long story short, he and his team got us approved and we got the house. It was so painless compared to our previous experience. I highly recommend Rick and his team, they carry the traits I expect: honest, open, always answers questions, always on time, and high integrity! Thanks Rick!

Impossible to get answers quickly or to even get the same person on the phone two times in a row…read more I have had a home policy with Sentry West for approx. 5 years. I recently wished to update my policy and add earthquake insurance. Finding someone available to take my calls/answer questions proved difficult, but once I finally got someone live (Kristi), I stated my questions and set up a follow up appointment to discuss the answers after Kristi had time to research. When I called the agency about ten days ago on the day and at the time of my appointment with Kristi, she was not available, so I was passed to Jennifer. Jennifer helped me with the home policy, but questions remained about the EQ policy. I set a follow up appointment for Jennifer to call me today, 3/12, at 2pm. No one called at 2pm. At 2:10 pm Kristi called and I find myself having the same conversation I had with Jennifer 10 days ago. This agency is proving unresponsive and unprofessional. The team went above and beyond when we faced a business transition that saw everyone with any Benefits experience leave the company. After we made the mistake of choosing a National Benefits/Payroll company to guide us through the transition, only to find out they were expensive, abrasive and unhelpful, the small business team saved us from our poor choice. They stepped in to transition our Flex Spending solution to a more resonsive vendor, and recommended a new, local payroll company whose service matches the quality of First West & is substantially lower in cost than national chains. And handheld us through a series of Cobra challenges as we learned the ropes of our legal obligations. The best customer service experience I've had in years.

We have some experience with realtors, having bought and sold 11 homes in 6 states. We are both attorneys, and I have a Ph.D. in Economics. We interviewed 5 realtors who had been recommended to use by people we trust in the area. We came to the interviews with skepticism toward the typical self-serving bombast that we had so frequently heard from realtors, but at the same time with a desire to find someone in whom we could place trust to take our interests and needs seriously. We anticipated difficulty in finding that person because, on the one hand, by this time in our lives we have definite tastes that we wish to have fulfilled and at the same time, we were not wanting to buy a property that would result in a huge commission for whoever represented us. Fortunately, we found Patrick Howells. He is one-of-a-kind. We made a great choice; Patrick is a gifted listener; he really heard our expressed needs. In addition he worked tirelessly to meet them. Our relationship with Patrick lasted for a complete year. During that time, we would often muse about our difficulty in understanding why we were receiving the kind of treatment that we would have thought would be given only to large commercial purchasers of multi-million dollar properties who would result in commissions for the realtor that would pay college costs for multiple children. But as we came to learn, Patrick gives that kind of service because that is the kind of person he is. We cannot say too much about the high quality of his character and the deep knowledge he possesses of the Salt Lake City real estate market. After interacting with him so frequently, I believe any of us would be lucky to have him for a neighbor or friend. He lives by a credo of treating his customers with the same kind of devotion we bring to a friendship. We recommend him as your realtor with no hesitation. He is terrific. Neil Browne
