We went on the half day trip which was perfect for my pale complexion. However, if sunlight wasn't a problem for me, I could've stayed out on the boat with Capt Dan all day. First we went about 30 minutes out to one of his spots and caught 12 Sheephead all of sizable quality within 30 minutes (we threw back 4-5 smaller ones) and then we went inshore for Spanish mackerel and caught 5 in about 30 minutes then we went for some trout, no luck so we moved on quickly to look for Redfish, we caught a few up in the beautiful river but it was slow so we went to try for some more Spanish. What a trip. So many experiences and he was really knowledgeable. I fish all over and he's one of the most knowledgeable Captains that I've met. Alex spent a considerable amount of time answering our many, many, many questions before, during, and even after our SCUBA adventure. He was a wealth of knowledge about not only SCUBA, but also the local area. I can honestly say our trip to Mexico Beach was so amazing in large part because of Alex and his recommendations. I am not the most comfortable in water, but trusted Alex and his Divemaster Rick, their equipment, and instruction. I truly believed I was in good hands and never questioned my safety. Despite all the logic I tried to apply to the situation I struggled to get comfortable breathing under water. Despite my mental hang-ups Alex and Rick were always patient, considerate, and offered tips/tricks to help me be successful at SCUBA diving. I never once felt pushed or was made to feel badly about the situation. They calmly helped me in any way they could, Rick and I even breaking off from the main group to work with me directly. They truly cared that we had a good SCUBA experience. My suggestions for a potential student: If you have a mustache and think you might have some mental hang-ups SCUBA diving, shave it at least ~1/4-3/8" down from the bottom of your nose. This will prevent water from seeping into your mask and making you feel like you are drowning (even though you are not). After doing so, I had almost 0 issues snorkeling a couple of days later. I will try SCUBA again and will be shaving the top part of my mustache before going. If your family is going to join you on the adventure to the jetty/springs, etc but not diving; it's doable, but I would not recommend it. My wife is very self sufficient, but there was some added stress on me to make sure we got all the things to the beach and setup so they could also enjoy their day. It didn't contribute to my metal hang-ups, but certainly did add a bit of unnecessary stress/rush. You'll have enough to focus on and learn, don't add more to your plate. Lastly, absolutely use Maritime Expeditions of the Forgotten Coast on your next water adventure. We will be back to Mexico Beach and we will be a return customer of MRFC.

We did see an alligator, but the views and the history shared by Captain Cook were worth the tour even if we didn't see any wildlife. My husband and I recommend the airboat tour and plan to make it an annual tradition. Captain Cook makes the tour fun but the swamp views are worth the trip even if the alligators are hiding. Tip: if you are in the front row on the airboat I would recommend not wearing lipgloss....everything sticks!

Decent little park in downtown Port St Joe by the boat ramp. It has a couple of new pickleball /…read moretennis courts, a playground that could use a little help, a pavilion with tables, a few benches, and a couple of swings. I have brought my child here the past 4 years on and off. She loves the pirate ship playground. It has seen better days but she will still get on it and slide. The pavilion would be the perfect place to have a small gathering. Or sit back in the swings on a nice fall or spring day and enjoy.

The restrooms were relatively clean and there was a baby changing stain on the women's side. The boat launch was extra Wide and concrete instead of gravel. There was also a fish cleaning station and a place to borrow life jackets. The fishing pier was awesome for taking some gorgeous sunset photos and we saw so many birds there. Between all the swings, benches, and picnic tables, there were plenty of places to sit and enjoy the view or watch the kids play on the playground. There were constantly people playing pickle ball, so it seems like it would be an easy place to find someone to play with. The park is non smoking and pets must be kept on leashes.
