I have been going to Future Smile Dental Practice for over a year. When I first started going it…read morewas owned by an Australian dentist, he was very good and I felt comfortable with him. He sold his practice and I have continued going to see Dr. Sanei. I like Dr. Sanei but feel that the prices she charges are a bit high and I hate that they are not open on Saturday. Which means I have to take time off from work to get any dental work done. Recently, I went in for my annual check-up and was charged £80 to have my teeth checked and cleaned. She uses a lot of high tech equipment and there is a screen that you can watch as a mini-camera works its way around your mouth. Despite the use of technology I felt £80 was a bit high for just a cleaning, especially since she did not take an x-ray and there isn't one in my records. The prior owner charged £50 and gave you a fluoride treatment. I am sure it's not far to compare the two, especially since extensive refurbishments have been done and the space is far more welcoming and comfortable. Saying all of that, I may complain about the cost, but I keep going to see her because it's hard to find a good dentist, she may be expensive, but she is good.

Church St is the show piece of Stoke Newington…read more It's the kind of place where you might say Let's go out on Church St Like you might say let's go out in Camden meaning that the area has so many choices that you can decide exactly which bars or restaurant you'll go to based on how things feel when you arrive. The people of Church st are its best asset. I think it feels like a kind of east meets west point, where the people of the Hackney estates mingle with the Islington spill over middle class. You are in far more danger of being run over by a pram than being mugged. The range of food options is excellent. From cafe, to pizzaria, to Indian or Thai, the unifying factor seems to be that they are smallish, independent, and striving for excellence within a very competitive market. The bars are not as diverse as the restaurants, being mostly variations on traditional English pubs. The best thing about them though is there strong focus on live music. There would be three or four options for live music on any given Friday or Saturday nights and many other gigs during the week. The shops on Church St are I guess quite Bohemian. Lots of alternative fashion, but also second hand book shops, organic food, small bike shop and a guy that seems to sell, repair and make, cellos, double bases and violins. (What could be more Bohemian than that?) Wen you add to this two parks a Library and an inpressive Victorian Church, I think that Church St Stoke Newington is clearly one of London's coolest streets.

This was despite visible plaque having developed and visibly making my gums receed!! I had to ask for a scale and polish which I really needed. And I also had to ask for fluoride varnish where I noticed signs of tooth decay. Dentists like these, who avoid providing scale and polish, know that their patients will eventually have bad tooth decay that requires more expensive treatments and it really feels like they avoid providing the adequate simple NHS treatments in order for patients teeth to get worse and worse. They shamelessly do this in order to charge higher NHS bands, all for the sake of profit! For too long, many dentists have been trying to charge me £50+ for a simple scale and polish, calling it "dental hygienist appointment." A scale and polish is in fact included in the NHS charge (Band 1: £20.60 covers an examination, diagnosis and advice. It also includes X-rays, a scale and polish and planning for further treatment) and it is an important procedure that helps keep the teeth and gum healthy. This dentist did not want my teeth to be healthy. Because the dentist reluctantly did a scale and polish, he deliberately did a poor job and I felt like my teeth were being damaged on purpose instead. I will not be going back.

So you can get a doctor from the surgery, and then choose which course of treatment you would like, based on the price range. The NHS treatment is limited for dental care, so you might end up shelling out a bit more for a longer lasting, or more cosmetic surgery. The doctor advised me well on the difference in quality, and I chose to get the simple NHS treatment. Its a back tooth at any rate. Surprisingly, it fell out again in just a few days! I went back to see the same doctor, who assured me that this was the first time anything like that had ever happened to him. He replaced it immediately with a stronger material. I liked the way his professionalism in the face of a dilemma, and was satisfied with my treatment.

The dental hygienist herself has a VERY bad attitude when talking to people; doesn't even give warning when injecting them. Also likes to go back on her word as to what was agreed before treatment and when it comes to payments after treatment. They have a new receptionist that has no people skills/ telephone skills no general customer service skills what so ever and is very rude and abrupt with people. After 20 years of constantly using the same practice I now have to find another.

Staff included a female receptionist and a female doctor (though she mightve been just a cleaner/hygenist, she didnt specify). Just had the regular cleaning, for £18. They take credit card. She didn't try to upsell me into anything that I didn't need or anything. Even told me that I dont need to come back until 1 year, because my teeth were quite clean.

She obviously didn't tell me to take it out myself, she just offered cleaning tips. I don't exactly know what other dental nurses/receptionists are like, but I'm sure they aren't all as nice as this one.
