There are avid dog owners that frequent this place daily and that's wonderful news. Most of the dogs are well adjusted socially. However, it's the owners that need to understand something. There is an economic term called implied contract. When you enter the park, you are entering into an implied contract with the understanding that things happen at the park. If you don't like it, go play in your backyard. Do not kick other people's dogs. I have seen it happen a few times and that's unacceptable. This dog park is one that we always stop at while traveling through Abilene. It is right by the entrance to the zoo, and it is free to get into the dog park. There is a 2 acre fenced park for dogs over 30 lbs and a 1 acre fenced park for dogs under 30 lbs. There are water fountains for dogs and people and the zoo allows people using the park to use their bathrooms right inside the entrance. But you can't bring dogs in the zoo. There is a large playground across the parking lot too. Sometimes people have big dogs in the small dog park, which I don't appreciate because they tend to jump on my little dog. There are benches, some trees, and lots of bags and bins so that you can clean up after your dog. You can find the full park rules on the City of Abilene website, and they are also on a sign outside the park. The park doesn't have too much poop lying around, and it has nice grass, but there are always a few careless owners. Also, if you have a puppy, never take it to a park like this if it has not completed the full round of vaccinations. It will get sick. read more

Nice big area for the dogs to run and play. They have 2 areas one for small dogs and one for big.

We love the dog park! Everybody usually cleans up after their dogs, and everybody is always very friendly and in control of dogs that might get a bit too excited or aggressive. I think it would be awesome to start a fundraiser to put in some toys (tunnels, ramps). read more

Looking for a huge, fenced in area with a lot of weird people and their even weirder dogs? Search no further, because this is your place. There is a small dog and a large dog area, but from what I've seen, this is pretty flexible. There is water available and that's nice. A lot of people must not pick up after their dogs because there is no shortage of land mines around. read more

Super nice park that saved the day! Our doggy Bailey is accustomed to her own yard off leash. It's very hard on the road to handle her potty breaks. This park is very nice and left us with a very happy doggy. Thanks! read more

A little disappointed to say the least. We arrived at 720a. The park is still filled with dog poop. No one has picked up after their own dogs nor had any staff cleaned since being closed yesterday. read more

Don't bring your dogs here. It is infested with Parvo and irresponsible dog owners. They bring their big dogs into the small dog side and have no regard for other people's animals. Most people do not pick up their dog's poop either. My chocolate lab got attacked a few months ago in the big dog park by another couple's dog who (they KNEW was aggressive) was brought in ON a leash, and weaseled his way out of his collar and began to bite my dog until we were finally able to split them up. There is always a huge mud puddle around the water supply and it leaves your puppers filthy. If you care about your dog's well being, take them to a park that isn't this one. read more

This dog park is ok. It needs improvement, like interactive areas with places the dogs can climb and explore. I've been to other dog parks in Texas and most are so much nicer, with plenty of shaded areas and either grass or mulch for the dogs to romp. So there are 2 parks . . . 1 for large and 1 for small dogs. There are many people that put their dogs in with the small dogs that are grossly over the weight limit 30lbs. It's downright scary when people put their labs, pits, German Shepards, etc. in the same area with chihuahuas, mini yorkies, etc. Also, many of the larger dogs like to dig and make large holes around and they are never filled in. I thought there was supposed to be improvements a few years back . . . I guess that will never happen. AND, the water fountain in the small dog park has been broken for over 6 months now. There is a sign that says a new one has been ordered, but why is it taking so long? read more

I was one of those who worked to get this park open. Helped with fundraising, arranged for the memory bricks by the bulletin board (which the city screwed up when they laid them without calling me like they were supposed to). I met with the city. I put my heart and soul into it. I had just gotten my 8 month old puppy and we went down there with my other schnauzer. There were a bunch of big dogs in the small dog park. A German Shepherd attacked a chihuahua but thank god the owner grabbed him and left before the shepherd could hurt him. That made Rosey very nervous and she refused to get off the bench with me. We went back a few weeks later and had our two dogs and a friend's little silkie with us. A couple showed up with a Great Dane--yes, a Great Dane and even though I told them they couldn't bring him into the small dog park the husband got really nasty, cursed at me, threatened me and brought him in anyway. Rosey was scared out of her mind. We left. I called the police and they refused to do anything (even though there's a big sign that says "30 pounds or less only"). We left and have never been back. Also too many people sitting on the benches on their iPhones or whatever and just let their dogs run and do whatever. And the last couple of times we went there were piles and piles of poop that weren't picked up. Now I haven't been back in two years. It was a great idea that went south. read more

Love taking the puppy here, and of course, she could spend all day romping around with the other dogs. Like that they have drinking fountains & provide bags for cleaning up after your dog (which I wish everyone had the sense to do). The surrounding park has nice trails for a change of scenery. read more

It's a great place for our Rex and we love our dog park family and their kids. So far it has been a very positive experience.

Took my Dexter there for the first time this morning. We had an amazing time. I'm taking my other two tomorrow. I can see this being a norm for us. The people there were nice and in control of their dogs. My boog had a great time and it was a great exercise in socialization for my 8 1/2 month old Great Dane. read more
