Called on a Saturday morning and first thing I asked is if they do free estimates for replacing an A/C system. The woman I spoke with says they do, so I made an appointment for Monday afternoon. I decided to look through yelp to get more quotes and started reading about "service charges" so I called Abacus back on Monday morning to make sure they wouldn't charge a service charge and sure enough the man I spoke with said it would be $50 for them to come out. This was never mentioned in the first phone call when I made the appointment. I might have still made the appointment if it was made clear, but I canceled it because I felt they were misleading me. Chris, a drain specialist, was knowledgeable, friendly, and offered me options on pricing which was nice. He assessed the issues quickly and made the necessary fixes. John was also there to assist and was great as well. This is the worse company to call after 6 PM even though the ad states 24/7. I called at around 7PM and the person that answered the call stated they had someone in the area. We live in Spring (77373). A hour later we received a call from the service man stating he was on his way, but lived in Deerpark and was at least a hour away or better. So we have learned. Let me be clear that the 1 star is only for the clean uniforms. The service call can be characterized as Unprofessional, rude, and an attempt to rip me off. For a bad thermal coupler which the plumber never even looked at, the solution on a $125,000 house was as follows: 1) Wrap the rafter above the water heater with this magical tape that prevents explosions for $470 He said it was required by the county code. This was a complete lie. I called the Harris County Office that enforces residential code and provides permits and was told that there is no such requirement. 2) Replace the gas line to the heater. Not needed 3) Finally, and you will love this one, since even after using the magic tape the clearance would still not be enough, replace the heater with a tankless water heater for $8,000 plus change When I said no, the plumber got really belligerent and aggressive. I told him to take his service fee and leave. He refused to take the service fee and kept on saying, "come inside the house so I can show you what I am talking about." I told him that he is not allowed in the property anymore and that he needs to leave. It was quite a scary interaction. Finally, I called another "LICENSED PLUMBER" and he replaced the thermal copuler for a grand total of $130. ABACUS is a RIP-OFF. I will never give them any business and I suggest you stay away from them on the plumbing side of things. I have had no experience with their AC service so I cannot comment. However, I have since found out that the company pays it's plumbers a commission for the work done. So, higher the bill, higher the commission. No wonder they carry around magical tapes... read more

The ONLY reason I'm giving one star to Abacus Plumbing and Air Conditioning is due to the fact that they were good on calling back and confirming appointments, especially in the light that I had both a plumber and an air conditioning tech come out on the same day. But RED FLAG WARNING to all who read this, that those servicemen did an all out con-job on trying to over $ell what I did not need! 1. I called Abacus initially to have a kitchen faucet installed, as well as to have two other minor plumbing problems taken care of. I was told by the plumber that I needed a whole new water softener system for my house. (We already have one.) He was going to charge me in excess of $500.00 to install my kitchen faucet! BUT, if I signed up that day for the expensive water softener system, he would have installed my faucet for free! So this plumber from Abacus LEFT WITHOUT HAVING DONE ANY WORK WHATSOEVER ON MY PLUMBING ISSUES!!! Need I mention that he tried talking my husband into replacing our hot water heaters at a cost of $2,884.00 EACH???? Zero star rating for Abacus on this one! 2. The Abacus air conditioning tech also arrived that day, to inform me after checking out our troubled upstairs unit, that we would need a whole new system. Upon me asking for options, with one being a less expensive "patch job," I was given 3 quotes: $13,000.00, $15,000.00 and $16,000.00. Little did he know that we had quotes from two other companies, who both said all we needed to do was to replace the coil up in the attic, at a mere cost of under $3,500.00! We were impressed with Eric at Ideal Air Services, and will be getting them to replace the coil come the first of the year. Again, ZERO star rating on this one for Abacus! read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! Extremely disappointed with the disorganization and lack of customer service.  I decided to give Abacus one more try after the horrendous way they handled their clients after the winter storm.  I was one of many that had a confirmed appointment and starting receiving multiple text messages putting off my appointment over and over, in addition to not being able to reach Abacus on the phone. After waiting 2 weeks with no water and 12 busted pipes, I called Village Plumbing and they were out the next day and fixed everything. Once again I had a confirmed appointment for today (electrical work) and am now told they can't come until Sunday or Monday a week later. I took off work to meet them and now I am out a day's pay, which I cannot afford. I have also had a lot of issues getting someone to answer their phones.  Checking the other on line reviews, the majority of customers give you one star in recent months.  Price gouging and lack of customer service are the biggest complaints NOT SURPRISED! I have been a long time customer and have had service plans in the past but will never EVER use this company again. This review is specifically for their a/c department. DO NOT EVER HIRE THEM FOR A/C!!! Don't do it... I lost hundreds of dollars to them over a/c repairs and all they did was turn the unit back on, tell me they didn't know what was wrong than tried to say I needed to spend thousands on a new air exchange "because the drain pipe was too small"... It's a complete scam. The volume of condensation required to overflow a clear 1/2" pvc pipe would be truly phenomenal. The air exchange doesn't even effect the drain pipe size... Do you know what I actually needed to fix my a/c? A cup of bleach, $5 of pvc, and ten minutes in my attic installing a vent and cleanout for the drain pipe. That's all... I haven't had any issues with my unit since I personally fixed it. These guys are running some kind of scam through their a/c department. I would go so far as to say that I can't trust any part of their business, you shouldn't either. read more

BUT, no estimate on the cost of installing 2 ceiling fans until they get on site. That means, if I don't like the price I still have to pay the service call. REALLY!!!! very disappointed...my neighbor recommended abacus for electrical work, although she said it was expensive..she did not tell me how much it cost her however..by reading these reviews, I will bet it was quite pricey! I called in the evening on a Saturday as one wall of my kitchen has no power and my phone (landline) also must have electrical power..the girl I spoke with was very courteous and scheduled an appointment for a service tech from from 4-6 pm on sunday...well..i waited and waited and no electrician, so around 5 30 I called and was told he was "running late" as he was held up on another job..shortly after that I got a call from the dispatcher with the same information..i said,well it it is almost 6pm but hopefully he can get here before it gets dark..i waited and waited again and even opened the garage door to let him know I was home..when it got to be about 7 15pm, I decided to call them..guess what..i got a recording an lots of music saying I was next in line and a customer service rep would be on the line shortly..i waited for 16 or more minutes..no person and the same recording now changed to "an operator will be with you shortly",then back again to the music and the whole thing started over again! I waited a few minutes and called again,with the same results..at about 7 50 pm, I just gave up and said,i guess he is not showing up and they are not answering the phone,plus it was getting dark! I went next door to advise my neighbor regarding her reference,and I think I will find someone else..i understand having a service call take longer than expected,but i also think not showing up or giving me a call is rude and poor service..almost all service people call you personally from their cell to say they are on their way,or running late..this person did not..instead he (or someone in their office) sent me an e mail with his picture on it at about 5 40pm,close to the same time I spoke with their dispatcher saying he was on the way...again,i was home,and he did not show up..i will not recommend them to anyone for that reason... read more

The last service call involved a longer and more difficult task than inspected and the Abacus service rep did a great job at sticking to it and getting it done without setting up a second appointment or call for additional resources. I had a clogged sink and needed a new disposal. Abacus sent Will Johnson who is a very friendly, easy going gentleman that wants the customer to be satisfied but yet make sure that its done properly. I experienced a water leak in my attic, due to a pin hole in one of rhe flex lines on one of my hot water heaters. This was not a good experience.To get woken up in the middle of the night with water dripping on you. I call what I thought was a reputable company, but the experience was terrible from the tech that came out not being able to provide the customer with a break down of there service, to the Jackass manager who does'nt have to brains or customer service of a billy goat. Be very careful when using this company they charge whatever they think at that time. By pass me with the Bullshit!!!! Finally ,I contacted a company who breaks down the cost and charges a fair price for the work rendered. I would never recommend Abacus to my worst enemy. read more

Called on a Saturday, around 3:45 p.m. I was informed that if technician shows after 6 p.m., there would be a $150 service fee. I agreed, thinking it was reasonable if the quote wasn't outrageous and he could fix it that day given that they have a 24hr service. At 5:58 p.m., technician called to say that he was available. Imagine that. It took all of 45 seconds to explain that I had a small puncture in a plumbing pipe and he went back to his van to go "work up the options". He came back with a quote north of $2,100 and wouldn't be able to get to it before the next day (at the earliest). The price is outrageous. My usual plumber could get to it on Monday (at a cost of around $400), 24hrs after Abacus, but at cost that is less than 25% of their absurd quote. I laughed at the quote, telling him no and he replied (laughing), "Yeah, I didn't think so either. Paying more than $2,100 is expensive". It's pretty clear he wasn't planning to come prior to 6:00 as to make an easy $150 to simply present a quote. I'm chalking up the wasted money as a "stupid tax". I won't make the same mistake twice. read more

AFTER the below review posted I got an almost immediate call offering to 'make it right'. I agreed, after a lengthy conversation, that perhaps I should afford them more stars with the caveat that when they are compared with others they are expensive. HOWEVER they guarantee their work and I was certainly impressed with attitude and follow up. I absolutely, positively will not work with Village plumbing again but in spite of some of the comments posted here I would consider using Abacus again. Lindel - guy mentioned in earlier review - IS one of best most courteous plumbers I have worked with BUT Abacus pricing is over the top silly I paid $311 for less than one hours work and the installation of a $25 part AND to get that price I had to keep asking if there was a cheaper way. Lindel was a gentle sales person pointing out the risks at each price (same that I would have done). Their club deal can be construed as a good deal IF you want to pay their base prices. I think I will stick with independent plumbers. read more

Setting up the same day appointment was easy enough and the service fee was only $50 but then when he showed up and gave me the quote to switch out my kitchen sink (and I have the new sink) was $375! We had a leak that other plumbers could not figure out where it was coming from. I was told to call Abacus and ask for a man named Bob to come out. They said he was the best of the best at finding leaks. We called them and he came out right away. Found our leak in no time at all and was able to get it fixed quickly. Very professional and explained the whole thing to me even drawing me pictures of how it was leaking. I was recommend him to anyone. I also liked that when the dispatch sends them to your house you get a text with their picture so you know exactly who will be coming to your house. I was transferred to Abacus call center when I called my former A/C repair service. It seems that they are out of business. It's a simple problem, my air handling drain is plugged and is causing a leak in my bathroom ceiling. I called on Saturday AM and was told that Abacus did not have anyone available till Tuesday PM. I scheduled the service. On Tuesday AM, I was called to confirm. Then, at approx. 11:30 AM, I get a call from a young lady in the call center to tell me that they can't service my "type of building" (I live in a condo). I have waited 4 days. Why did they not tell me this from day 1? It seems this outfit is too big to care for the little customer. If they can do this to me, how do they handle a $4,000 A/C job? read more

These guys sold me over $8000 worth of air conditioning replacement and fixes to install a new AC unit, reduce humidity, and correct airflow between rooms of my house. Looks like they sold me a unit that was too small for my house (I had no idea) and did not reduce humidity at all inside. Now I cannot get someone on the phone that will do anything. Buyer beware. I can not count on Abacus. The plumber came to fix water leak from the bathroom to 1st floor ceiling. He exchanged the bathtub faucet. He told me that the leak was fixed. He charged me outrageous fee and tried to sell me plumbing and electric one year membership. Later, I realized that my water leak was never fixed. Stay away from these guys. I paid the $150 weekend rate, to have my a/c serviced. I asked the technician to spray wash my two non-disposable air filters. He acted a little miffed that I would ask him to do such a demeaning task. Normally, I would perform this task on my own, but I am currently disabled and can't do it. When he handed me the bill, he said he charged me separately for the spray wash. The rate was $198. Of course, this rate is ridiculous, as it is a 5 minute task that a third grader could do. I should have disputed that rate and not signed the bill. However, I foolishly signed and paid the $348 ($150 + $198). Avoid these guys, if you like your hard earned money. read more

Called several a/c repair companies this very hot summer day. Only two were able to promise they could come out. The ABACUS operator was so informative and helpful. She told me it would be after 6 pm. At 4:30 we received a call that the repairman was on his way. Turns out he came all the way from the other side of town to fit us in between a procedure. When he got here he was able to take care of our problem quickly and efficiently, explaining exactly what had caused our unit to fail. Our AC was not cooling so we called Abacus. They came and said we needed a new coil and a few other things. So we got an estimate which I thought was a high over 3k, but we went w them. I was curious so I had someone come give me an estimate on what they did and it was still high as AC SERVICES are, but cheaper than Abacus. So I guess I should of gotten a few estimates and then decide, but u live and learn. However, other than over charging me the techs were knowledgable, well mannered and did the work Ina timely manner. read more

Joe was a great technician. The only reason I didn't mark five stars was do to the company. After waiting until 5pm for an appointment scheduled for 8-11am, I was very frustrated with Abacus. Joe accepted my ticket and traveled from SE Houston to Sugar Land. He was very professional and thorough. He explained everything he did, found the issue and attempted several times to get a final resolution to my problem that was covered under warranty. Joe went the extra mile for me. He could have easily just left and said someone would contact me as I believed most would have done. Three hour appointment as a club member and they were a no show. They used to be good, few years ago, but no longer.

Total ineptitude! A company and people NOT to be trusted!!! They only want your money. Does not matter how many times you call them for a refund they do NOT return phone calls. I agree with the other comments this company is a SCAM! to take your money. We had very minor electrical, plumbing and a/c work and called them because they could handle all of the issues. Let's just say there was only 1 honest person out of 3. The other 2 made the "issues" into much bigger claims then coincidentally after the electrician left several appliances no longer worked. Turned out there were "loose wires". Hum, never had a problem until he worked with the wires... Do not take the service agreement. When trying to cancel all requests go into their trash can. At least that is what I believe because after nearly 2 weeks of calling them and being told "I will take the information and pass it to the correct person who will contact you in 24 hours" I still have not received a single call from them. Even the owner who answered the phone gave us the same information. Obviously this is all directed from the owner to not return people's phone calls when money is owed back to customers. This type of management raises questions about all of their business practice and honesty!! I highly recommend finding someone who is honest. Too bad Yelp does not have negative stars.
