The Sportmaster store on Østerbrograde has recently undergone some redecorations, which included…read moreopening up the basement as retail area, rather than as storage (as I'm assuming it was before). A good choice, as the store was always a bit cramped and overloaded, which made browsing for stuff somewhat of a let down experience.
Living nearby, I've been by here a few times, but rarely bought anything. Not entirely sure why, because as an outlet of one of the country's biggest sporting goods chains, they carry all the major brands. But maybe therein lies the problem: they carry a bit of everything, but isn't specialised in anything in particular. If you're looking for general-purpose stuff, you'll probably find it here, but if you want the largest possible selection of a specific type of athletic equipment, say running shoes, you're better off heading to a store that specialises in that. But in spite of being non-specialised, they're not very price competitive, and I've often found the same or similar items in specialised stores, only cheaper.
If I was to point out something that they focus on, I'd say their main focus seems to be on soccer, which makes sense, as they're in the same building as the local AND the national soccer stadiums.
Service is OK, but the staff seems boxed in by pretty strict rules. I ran into this when I tried to return a purchase, and it turned out that they needed several items of verification that the item was indeed bought there, before they were allowed to accept it, simply having the receipt wasn't enough. Never a big fan of when the needs of the store, and the store's system, gets in the way of good customer service.
Sportmaster is an alright sporting goods store, with a wide but perhaps a bit shallow selection, but not really a favourite of mine.
