Brentwood Joinery

WARNING! Very aggressive member of staff. This morning 3rd June 2024 at 8.10am I was in a traffic…read morejam into Brentwood. I was in front of a car at the junction of Brentwood and Billericay Road. I left room to let a car out from the Billericay road, when the white car behind me started aggressively sounding his horn. I looked in my mirror to see the driver giving me obscene hand signals. The driver then reversed into Brentwood Joinery to open the gates of the yard. I opened my window to ask what was wrong, to get a mouth full of abuse and obscenities. I would not use this company due to this member of staffs shocking behaviour, my son and myself were fearful for our safety, as he was extremely aggressive and abusive.
I would not recommend using this business. For an expensive bespoke door, the finish was not of…read morethe quality I would have expected and I have been left disappointed. Although the door was initially well constructed, the letterbox was cut at my premises and the joiner made a complete mess of mine. Instead of a neatly cut hole, it was a large and badly hacked gap which the large letterbox, (the business owner David Hyde's idea and without any consultation with me regarding the size of the letterbox), barely covered. Consequently large amounts of wood filler were used both to ensure the hole was covered by the letterbox plate and to hold the long screws which hold the letterbox in place. Only one screw actually goes through the wood of the door, the other is held in place by wood filler. My initial complaints at the time were fobbed off with 'workman flannel' of 'work in progress'. The joiner knowing my disappointment, stated he had never cut such a large letterbox before and didn't have a template. The business owner David Hyde, contradicted this and said the joiner had cut letterboxes this size before and never used a template. How come then the back plate was too small for the letterbox so they had to order a new one, which is so big, it looks like I have a cat flap. One of them is lying. Consequently the back plate got a dent in it in the first week after fitting because of the unevenness of the posts holding the letterbox front plate. Apparently, according to David Hyde, this was my fault for holding the flap up and dropping it on the posts! Since then the wood filler has shrunk down and cracked. I became concerned that if the filler cracks some more and no longer adheres to the wood, the letterbox will no longer be fixed and could come loose. I complained again. David Hyde came to the house and said the cracks were purely cosmetic and that the door was holding up well as often he is 'called back because of cracks in the wood'. Essentially, I should be grateful I haven't got any, yet. David Hyde expressed his surprise, I was disappointed with the door, despite my continual complaints. All along, I feel I have been confronted with obstruction and sheer arrogance. He suggested he would 'tidy' up the cracks and agreed the back plate was too big and he would fit another one, but that is all he would do as he considered my request of a replacement door unreasonable. I have looked at so many letterboxes since and have yet to find one as badly constructed as mine. Since his visit, I am still waiting for someone to at least attempt to deal with the cracks and fix a new letterbox back plate. It has been six months. I thought a local business would provide me with a good service. I was wrong.
