After a horrible experience with a Miele authorized seller in Hayward (which I wrote about in a previous review), I was honestly expecting the worst when trying to get help with my Miele vacuum. Thankfully, my experience with Jose at AAA Vacuum & Sewing was the complete opposite. AAA Vacuum & Sewing ended up being exactly the kind of honest, helpful service I was hoping to find. I wasn't even an existing customer there, and Jose still took the time to help me figure out my warranty situation. From the start, Jose showed excellent customer service. At first it almost felt like he might be turning me away since I live on the other side of the Bay Area, but I think he quickly realized I had already gone through a frustrating experience with another authorized Miele distributor and genuinely needed help. Jose took the time to listen and really hear me out. He even FaceTimed me so I wouldn't have to make the trip unnecessarily, which I really appreciated. That small gesture alone saved me a long drive and immediately showed he cared more about helping than simply getting another customer through the door. He was also very honest and transparent, explaining that what Miele customer service told me might end up being different from how the warranty process actually gets handled. I appreciated that he didn't sugarcoat anything and was straightforward about what he could and couldn't control. Jose mentioned he was already planning to contact Miele later that day for another customer and kindly offered to ask about my situation as well. It was clear he knew the warranty process well and had experience working directly with Miele. He took my serial number, reviewed the emails I received from Miele, and looked at the photos I sent of the vacuum hose that needed to be replaced. Fortunately, the hose ended up being covered under Miele's warranty, and Jose handled ordering the replacement so everything was taken care of properly. A couple of weeks later, my husband stopped by AAA Vacuum & Sewing to pick up the replacement hose and also commented on how nice Jose was in person. While he was there, he noticed Jose helping two older women in the store, one of whom was in a wheelchair. Jose was incredibly kind and even helped them out of the store. Moments like that say a lot about a person. As someone who had already gone through a frustrating experience elsewhere, I really appreciated Jose taking the time to listen and help me work through the situation. Jose clearly takes a lot of pride in how he runs AAA Vacuum & Sewing, and that really shows in how he treats his customers. If you need help with a Miele vacuum or a warranty repair, I would absolutely recommend AAA Vacuum & Sewing and working with Jose. read more

Rare and fantastic real awesome human .. and what kindness and patient customer service we so seldom see these days. 1st off, when I went into the store, he was helping an order lady who had brought in a vacuum to repair and moving and speaking understandably at glacial speed asking million and one questions. Alex patiently and kindly answered all of her questions with a smile. And then .. helped her carry the vacuum and load it on her car. Then when he came back in to the shop with a smile, and he so patiently took my sewing machine (which would not turn on), quickly determined that I had a wrong cord, used a correct cord to get it to turn on, then showed me numerous sewing tips and sewing machine use tips. Horrific experience - terrible customer service. They clearly don't care to help anyone if it's for an under warranty machine (and therefore supposed to be free). The man on the phone was condescending, rude, and utterly unhelpful. He said I could bring my machine in but would be charged bc "user error" isn't under warranty - yet he offered no solutions or suggestions at all aside from saying I should to use all Brother branded products for my projects (which is unnecessary)! I kept trying to explain that my issue was with the bobbin tension, not with the materials, and what I had already tried in terms of troubleshooting - he would cut me off each time. I spoke up for myself saying "Hey, I'm asking you for help and you're being so rude" - and he simply told me to take my machine elsewhere. Seriously a heartless man who needs to get off his high horse. He has no business treating other human beings this way. I hope he finds a job with no customer interface so he doesn't subject others to this type of mistreatment. I ended up calling another sewing shop and they were so informative while still being KIND. They were able assist me over the phone and had the issue identified and helped me fix it within 5-10 minutes. read more

I finally made it here to see what was wrong with my 15yr old Dyson. I had tried to diagnose the issue myself with partial success. Jose was able to fix the issue in less than 1minute ‍. He recognized another issue quickly as well but said I could use the vacuum without fixing it. He quoted amounts that seemed reasonable. I appreciate Jose's upfront and transparent style. I purchased a bulb for my sewing machine. To my surprise, it burn out in about two weeks. When I brought the bulb back, with a receipt, for an exchange, I was told that they "don't make bulbs like they used to" and that "the vibration from the sewing machine destroys the filament in the bulb". Why are they selling bulbs that can't survive the vibration of a sewing machine for use in a sewing machine? I've been sewing for 52 years and have never had a sewing machine bulb last only two weeks. It's more like 10 years. It seems as though they are knowingly selling defective products and/or don't stand behind the products they sell. I won't be shopping there again. I guess I should feel lucky that I only lost $5.49. read more

Oh My gosh! This is a San Mateo--no a San Francisco--a USA gem. I brought a very old but functional White Sewing machine for Jose to consider repairing. First, he is the nicest, most conscientious person you could ever ask for advice. He did an excellent overview of my machine, cleaned, oiled and re-calibrated it. All for the fee charged to initially evaluate the machine. Exceptionally reasonable. Plus he did it in a day and called me immediately to let me know it was ready. He actually assessed a problem that I hadn't asked for service--I was just dealing with the aggravation. Before I left I asked if I was using the correct setting for a big project. He plugged it in and we tried it out. Perfect. So now my machine runs like a mercedes--a porsche--a well-running White sewing machine! I am a cardiologist, so I love when machines work well for the intended tasks. We need more people like Jose to fix things that should not be put in the landfill but returned to use. Especially old appliances which were built to last. Plus if one can deal with a fantastically kind, talented, honest person like Jose, what a better community--world-- we have. I mistakenly ran my vacuum over a small piece of paper that got lodged in the head, blocking the suction hose. It was so deeply stuck that I couldn't remove it. I've been coming here for years to service my sewing machine. I put my machines through a lot, especially now for mask making and Covid crafts. Jose does an excellent job to keep my machines running well. The $130 fee is reasonable to maintain my 30 year old Bernina (my late mother's) and totally worth it to make sure it lasts. We're lucky to have a repair shop like this still around for our needs. He recently serviced my Oreck vacuum for what I considered a reasonable charge and it worked as well as it did when it was new. I then managed to clog the hose with needles from our new Christmas tree and he cleared it at no charge. That is not a blanket no charge situation. He has a business and his time is all he has to make his living. Having spent my life in a service business I would have paid a service charge without complaint, but he's just a good guy with a good heart. Located downtown San Mateo. There are parking spots next to the shop, or across the street are paid parking spots...up to you. This is a place you want to take your sewing machine to be fixed. I was given my sewing machine by my late grandma, it carries a lot of sentiment. Lately sewing has been more of a slight struggle, knowing it's never been serviced before. Did some research and found this place AAA Vacuum & Sewing. Called up the number and was quoted that a sewing machine tuneup is $130. I'm okay with that, because I don't want to buy another machine, this one means the world to me. Took it into the shop, had a nice conversation, left with a reclaim tag. I'd say less than a week went by when I got a call saying my machine was ready for pickup. Today I finally pulled my sewing machine out to alter a shirt, and it purred like a kitten. It was like a enhanced sewing machine. Really good job! Now I'll get many more years of love out of it. read more

In a normal year, my sewing machine doesn't get a serious workout, but when the COVID pandemic hit, I started making cloth masks for donation, and after four months of daily use, my poor machine was beginning to show signs of hard use. I was afraid that they'd be closed (for me, sewing machine repair turned out to be an essential service, but who knows who else would feel that way?) but no, they were there. I dropped my Brother off on Monday, and by Thursday it was ready to be picked up, and running better than it had in years. Jose was cheerful, the work was good, and the price was reasonable. I was last here 9 years ago when I purchased a Brother sewing machine, which has served me well without major issue until last night, when I was not able to resolve a tension and bobbin issue. At that point, I thought my cloth face mask effort had ground to a halt until I found out they were open during the shelter-in-place order (quick response on Facebook messenger!). Today was the first time I've been there since I purchased my sewing machine and Jose quickly assessed my machine, found the issue within 10-15 minutes, which was a simple fix, and didn't even charge me even after I asked him. If you appreciate good quality repair service for your vacuum cleaners and sewing machines, then AAA Vacuum and Sewing is the place for you. I have an older model Eureka canister that you can't buy anymore and it was nice to know I could still get it fixed and treated with care and respect. I brought my cleaner in for a repair and without even asking, Jose the Owner, took it upon himself to service , lube and "clean-up" my machine, giving it the royal once over. It was like getting a brand new machine back with a new lease on life. In addition, he put a complimentary dust filter and bag in it so that it was all ready to go by the time I came to pick it up. Now this is service! I have come here a few times before, but after this, I will only be coming here for all my repair needs. sidebar: There is also an extensive line of computerized sewing machines as well as newer model vacuums on display in the showroom as well. It was a great place to explore the machines without feeling pressured and I liked being able to touch and feel what I was buying, in person, instead of blindly purchasing anything similar on Amazon without being able to actually touch it. Sure you can always return the Amazon product but why waste the time? I would rather see and like what it was I was buying first, before actually making the decision to purchase it. We went here a few weeks ago. Our ~30 years old canister vacuum broke and we wanted a new one. Canisters are now a very small part of the vacuum cleaner market so they're not easy to find. The person who helped us (owner, I assume) was friendly and very helpful, explaining the feature differences between the different Miele models, and letting us look at them. Because we only wanted a vacuum cleaner to use on hardwood floors, not carpet, he recommended the bottom of the Miele line, and it made sense to us so we bought it. It works great! read more

OK, I gave this place a good review with my first visit. But my second interaction with AAA was so outstanding that I decided to erase my entire review and write a new one: This is a small independent company. The customer service here is above and beyond quality. Let me explain...I came here once to get something fixed. The guy here was so damn honest, knowlagable and sincere...So I decided to give them a call to ask for a Sewing machine recomendation. Now, I'm used to using industrial sewing machines and sewing all types of garments. Jose tells me about this "amazing machine they just started carrying. He invites me in to take a look. ...I'm thinking, "what have I got to loose?". So I go in to check it out. He shows me this whole demo of the machine-Lets me test it out for for as long as I want. I'm completely blown away by how amazing the machine is. I get a killer warrenty. Then I'm offered a FREE sewing class-that's a one on one appointment with someone who knows the machine... Prior to this I had bought a Singer (=shit) sewing machine from SEARS(=shit) by one of the many disgruntled employees who know nothing about anything they carry, who gave me a rather costly and shitty "warrenty". Although I did'nt realize just how shitty my experience was untill I went to AAA-Where, my experience was pretty much impossible to beat. They certainly have my respect and loyalty! YA! read more

When my Singer was no longer picking up the bobbin thread, I figured it needed to have the timing adjusted. Went in to get it repaired and tuned. Turns out the issue was the bobbin gear and it would have cost way more to fix than to get a new machine. Although I didn't get my machine repaired, I really appreciated the time they took to look at it and give me an honest review an estimate before I committed to a repair. Years ago, when this shop was in its old location, I wandered in looking for information on purchasing a Miele vacuum. My friend had one and loved it. I was sick and tired of spending money on upright vacuums that died after a year. Jose talked me into buying the Miele and I have been grateful ever since. This machine is amazing. I would buy one again in a heart beat. In fact, I replaced my dishwasher with a Miele just because I was so impressed with my vacuum - but that is another story. For awhile, AAA Vacuum & Sewing had the GIANT Miele washer and dryer in their shop for display purposes. I was waiting for my current washer & dryer to croak so I could replace it. Well, it did and when I went in to AAA, Jose told me NOT to buy it. Who does that? He was not happy with the performance and told me so. I didn't buy it! For a few years I have been drooling over The Big Green Egg. I HATE gas grills. We have one and I refuse to use it. I've wanted a smoker or a grill I could use charcoal in but didn't want to spend the $$$ on the green egg thing. My birthday and Mothers Day are like two days apart and I always get the gift shaft. This year, prior to my shaft, I decided I was going to buy myself the Big Green Egg. My husband gave me the thumbs up (allowing himself off the hook) and I went and purchased the egg. My vacuum sucks (doesn't suck). Stopped in to have a chat with these guys about fixing it - they were very upfront with the expected prices and doing a free estimate. They have also branched out into selling Big Green Egg ceramic BBQs for some reason. These are the greatest smokers, but not very apartment-friendly. perhaps when I have a deck and begin living at Home Depot on weekends I'll buy one. read more
