I scheduled the clutch replacement in advance, but when I dropped the car off Mike, the service manager, seemed to not remember the appointment. Instead of starting right away as promised, the car sat untouched for two days, and I had to chase them for updates. When they eventually started working on the car, Mike told me they would be pulling the entire engine just to make access to the clutch easier. This is not necessary in order to replace the clutch, and, as I will explain, I believe pulling the engine out led to serious issues caused by their negligence. When I finally got the car back, it came with a cascade of new problems. The AC no longer worked because they had simply "forgotten" to recharge it. Days later, the clutch began grinding because they had skipped inspecting the clutch pedal during the replacement. For this oversight, they charged me an additional $75 diagnostic fee and then quoted hours of labor to replace the pedal -- a repair that actually only takes minutes. After only a few hundred miles, the cabin heat failed and the car overheated from coolant loss--almost certainly from sloppy reassembly after the needless engine removal. I had to get the car towed to another shop out of state. When I called Donovan Middleton, the owner, he was rude, dismissive, and refused all responsibility. He brushed off their admitted mistakes as "normal" and told me flatly to go ahead and take the business to court if that's what I felt I needed to do. What should have been a routine clutch job left me with an unsafe, possibly ruined car. Middleton's Auto is negligent, dishonest, and unfit to be in business. Once I receive my car back and assess the full damages, I plan to litigate in Pinellas County Small Claims or Civil Court, depending on the amounts in question. I will update this review accordingly.
