I've taken my pets to PVH for over 20 years. I have had to have several put to sleep. Under the…read morecircumstances I was always happy that I was able to hug them and tell them that they are a good boy/girl. They would be sedated and relaxed then when I was ready they'd be given the medicine and they'd slip away peacefully. I took my little 15 year old dog recently to be put to sleep. Her body was worn out with several issues but her mind was still very alert. She cried out 4 times while the IV line was inserted and that broke my heart enough but I knew she was dehydrated. The vet comes into the room and realized that the IV line was not screwed on but instead of getting one she proceeded to grab a hold of the IV which pinched her skin because it was so close to her skin and bandaged. She cried out again. The doctor did not use a medication to relax her. Instead she just began trying to insert the syringe into the IV. I wasn't ready for that. She didn't give the medicine that relaxes the dog. I panicked and asked is this the medication that kills her and not the sedation. She answered yes, this is the one that will make her die. Instead of stepping back and regrouping it all was out of hand. My little dog was trying to get away, crying out and terrified. I was unable to comfort her. Without the sedation it takes a lot longer than I realized for her to die. My heart is broken and we were robbed of a peaceful moment. It may be something that the doctor does on a regular basis but I don't and I'm very disappointed. It's difficult enough to lose a pet let alone in this way.

(This vet seems to always be closed so don't ever assume they are open) so we had to take him some where else, he was up for yearly check so we let the emergency vet do it since we were already there. When it came time to refill his medicine he needs to live, they gave us the wrong one and lucky we noticed and took it back. Then a few weeks later we went to get his prescription dog food and they refused to give it to us until we did the yearly update with them, we told them what happened and that we had that done somewhere else because of his emergency and they were closed. They did not care and were so rude and refused to even SELL us his food. We were trying to give them money so they weren't loosing our business completely. They just wanted us to spend several hundred dollars for a check up we just did and could have faxed to them or even got the paperwork to show as proof and they did not care. We will never go back and since this are with a new vet. Here is the thing..... the way they made us feel about our baby(pretty much child) was HELPLESS because he has to have that food no other kind and that medicine to live is unacceptable and beyond belief. Hopefully they can put what really matters and THEIR job first and not greed and remember why they chose this field. Do better......

Here in the area on a travel assignment. Have one dog that gets a regular injection so we see a vet…read moreonce a month. When I called for an initial appointment the person on the phone acted like it was an inconvenience that I wanted to make an appointment. I got a lot of "Well, you have to come fill out paperwork and we need records." As if that was somehow going to be an issue or I was going to refuse or couldn't provide it. My dog had been to the vet for his annual just a few months prior and I had full records. They were insistent that he been seen by the vet for an "exam". When I questioned it I got another aggravated response from staff about it being policy. At this point I'm like whatever, I just need him to get his injection. So I paid, before the actual appointment to "hold" the appointment, $75. I commented that I felt that was a bit of a rip off and got a nasty text message after I left from her office manager. I thought maybe I was overreacting to it, but a few folks at work read it and were also taken aback by it. When we get there we are taken to a room and my dog is taken to the back for the exam and his shot. He was gone less than 5 minutes and came back. I was told he had a full exam and his shot. When Dr. Palmer came in she said he had a broken tooth and seemed to be pushing towards surgery. She brought in a model, as if I somehow didn't understand a broken tooth (Healthcare for 20+ years. I got this). I pointed out that it didn't seem to bother him and I was happy to keep an eye on it. It seemed that when she realized I wasn't going to jump allover surgery, she backed off. He's 10. I am not putting him under anesthesia unless I have to. She spent less than 10 min in the room with us. No comments on how his heart or lungs sounded. How he was moving. How he appeared to her as a 10 year old dog with arthritis. Just the tooth she wanted to surgically remove. The whole thing rubbed me wrong but it was close and I liked her techs. Second time we went for his shot, they forgot me in the parking lot. Since you have to call when you get there and wait in the car you are out of sight out of mind. When someone came out more than 20 min later, I was told there was an emergency and the person who answered the phone had forgotten. No problem, I get it. He got his shot and I mentioned he has gotten sick a few weeks before and staff seemed concerned. That made up a bit for my first experience. Went today for his third shot. They take him back and a few minutes later I hear screaming. My dog does not show pain like that. He is stoic by nature. He has tells that I know but he has rarely made noise to indicate pain in the 10 years I have had him. From the note in the file they sent me "P screamed and tried to bite after admin librela in shoulder, was straight out of the fridge so cold. P is always a little dramatic with the cold inj. so may do better in the good hip ? (RR)" Tech tells me he "whimpered" a little because it was cold from the fridge. Hold on, you mean to tell me you KNOW it hurts going in when it's cold and you KNEW he was coming in today for his shot and you don't think to pull it from the fridge to let it warm up a little? Not super amused at this point. (Had I seen this note before hand we would have had a serious issue. He has NEVER tried to bite anyone and has NEVER had an issue with injections of ANY kind. And he has been getting this one for more than 2 years at this point.) One of my other dogs is due for her annual. I'm not feeling super good about it after the three visits I've had. I tell the tech that I'm not comfortable with them taking my dog out of the room for an exam. I've NEVER had a vet take my dog out of the room for an exam. Most of them get on the floor with them and check them over. And it takes more than 5 min. The dog is a bit of a handful with energy and she does better with me. If someone else tries to hold her she is not going to cooperate. No aggression or fear of vets or anything. She's just a spaz. I get a bit of a run around about this and told they would speak with the Dr about it to see if they could accommodate me and get back to me. TBH at this point I've already decided to go somewhere else. Later I get an email telling me that they cannot accommodate this request and to go elsewhere. I was told that the proof she gave my dog a through exam was that she found a broken tooth. That's it. That's all the proof I need apparently. In my decades of owning dogs and dealing with vets and vet clinics, I have never had any issues. I've been very fortunate to find caring vets that have taken good care of my dogs. To the point I've actually had personal numbers for several of them. But this whole place left a bad taste in my mouth and concern for how they are handling my animals. My dog was intentionally hurt by poor handling.

Piper is a young energetic cat who has experienced trauma so he has been a challenging addition to the family. He bites and scratches as play aggression. At the recommendation of a friend who adores her cats, I decided to take Piper to Vienna Veterinary Clinic. I called and asked the Clinic if they applied Soft Paw nail covers, and they said they would although they had not. (Piper is not one to sit still for me to put the covers on his nails.) Soft Paw or other brands are a humane way to prevent cats from damaging carpets and furniture. The nail covers are glued over nails, preferably after the nails are trimmed. As the nails grow, the covers come off. Although the time varies from immediately to six weeks with home application, the Vienna Veterinary Clinic application has lasted seven weeks with only one or two coming off. The staff at the VVC were very kind and pleasant to me and very kind and compassionate to Piper. He received a wellness check up and was sedated so the nail covers could be applied in the morning. They monitored him the rest of the day, and I picked him up at about 4:30 p.m. Piper was happy and well. They seemed to have enjoyed meeting for and caring for Piper. Also, they offered helpful suggestions for ways I could take care of him. He will be going back for healthcare and nail cover application. **Please consider nail covers as the humane way to protect your indoor furnishings.

Reception was pretty rude when I asked questions about aftercare and pain medications etc. Told her I just wanted to be sure I knew what to expect. She came off very condescending and I thanked her for "her patients with clients". Honestly won't be back as if I can't ask a couple questions about her wound without receiving pushback thats not a good place to be.
