Established in 2001, Collectif is one of Europe's leaders and originators in Vintage Reproductions. Starting off as a small shop in Camden Market, Collectif originally focused on Punk and Psychobilly styles. However, with the addition of new designers and the increased popularity of the Rockabilly scene, Collectif expanded focusing their attention on the classic looks of 1940s and 50s( and 60s) and saw the opportunity to reproduce Vintage fashions for the modern woman. Their designs cater and fit all shapes and sizes from petite to those with curves, and their range of Collectif models reflect this. In other words they "compliment and celebrate the female form."

Firstly, the shop doesn't feel imposing or intimidating to enter, but neither does it feel like a chaotic heap of dirty fabric. I was quite content to wander around and browse/stroke the pretty fabrics without feeling I'll catch something, and without the staff hovering around me. When I was ready to make a purchase the gentleman who served me was very friendly and gave me sound advice on what direction the grain in my fabric went (so that I would know which way to cut it) and he was very accommodating to my specific requests. Also unique among the fabric shops around here, Bovorik has a decent basic haberdashery selection, with things like needles, ribbons, elastic, fabric dyes and all the other bits and pieces you might need.

If you're a beginner like me don't expect tons of help, you're more likely to be waved over to look for yourself and will have to figure out if the fabric you chose will work for the project you have in mind. For the well researched beginner and upwards, though, this place is a pleasant antidote to the lofty yuppiness of John Lewis and its brethren, and the market's just round the corner for a post-shopping snack.

I was mistaken, my usual fabric shop was shut so rather than a wasted journey, I went in to have a look. They have a pretty big selection bearing in mind the size of the shop and the price is amazingly reasonable. Now I have no reason to buy fabric anywhere else. But do bear in mind once the stock is gone, its gone... so buy what you see.
