Annie and David were by far our favorite vendors that we got to work for our wedding. I'll start by saying that my partner is a photographer who has worked a few weddings himself, so his standards are pretty high. When we started researching wedding photographers, I was worried that it would take a really long time to find someone who he was happy with, since he had a list of 20+ people that he was looking into. But when we found A Tale Ahead, I was relieved that he quickly decided that Annie and David were the right folks to help us document our special day. Our experience with A Tale Ahead began with near-instantaneous email responses to our questions, even late into the night. To this day, I have no idea how they respond so quickly to emails and wish I had this superpower. At our first in-person meeting, they treated us to freshly brewed tea in cute cups shaped like Canon 24-105mm lenses. After reviewing their photo packages and all their sample albums, we decided their photography style was a perfect match for our wedding needs. We loved their natural color balance and composition, and the physical albums were beautiful (they are made in Italy and really high quality). We worked with A Tale Ahead on three separate occasions. At first, we signed up for their "Novel" wedding package, which covered our wedding day as well as engagement photos. However, after seeing our engagement photos, we were so satisfied that we decided to add on their services for our small ceremony at City Hall, even though these were not expenses that we had originally planned for. Their services were an investment but were definitely worth it. The photos speak for themselves - Annie and David perfectly captured our special day, and their photos are memories that we will cherish forever. What may not be as obvious from their website is just how much of a pleasure they are to work with. A few examples: - On the way to the engagement shoot, we ran into terrible traffic and were significantly delayed. :( We were pretty stressed when we arrived, but Annie was so accommodating and friendly that we were able to calm down and still get some great shots with our planned itinerary. We didn't detect even a bit of annoyance from Annie, even though she was waiting for us for a while. - If you have (very opinionated) Asian relatives (moms) who have lots of ideas on how photos should be taken and aren't afraid to share them, Annie and David are very adept at handling this situation! They also both speak Mandarin, which helps. ;) - Their communication and expectation-setting is impeccable. We didn't need to chase or follow up, because they were already on top of things and had answered most of our questions. - We really appreciate their attention to detail. When we picked up our wedding photo albums, they also gave us a wooden box full of printed photos with a cute custom hand-drawn postcard of my partner and me and our two pet bunnies. The added benefit of capturing video with crisp audio is such a plus. My fiancee and I are so happy we get to relive this moment with such detail and share it with our family and friends. The portfolio and aesthetic drew me, but what really made my decision easy was David's responsiveness, attention to detail, and friendliness. He was very open to my vision and provided his feedback to help enhance it. A lot of thought goes into capturing a one-in-a-lifetime moment and right off the bat you could feel the knowledge that David and Annie bring to the table. I was understandably very nervous and a bit overwhelmed searching around for surprise proposal photographers, as the options were seemingly endless, but came across David and Annie - and their hundreds of five-star reviews - and decided to send them a message. The reviews do not lie! David responded within an hour and we were on the phone chatting through the proposal idea hours later, even though he was on vacation and 13 hours ahead of me in China! Communication stayed phenomenal in the weeks leading up to the big day, as David kept tabs with me on timing, plan updates, weather, etc. I always felt like I was in good hands and never had to worry about how the photo side of the big day would turn out, which is huge when you're about to ask the biggest question of your life. David and Annie were absolutely immense. Our wedding was in May at the Golden Gate Club in the Presidio. Our scheduled photographers and videographers cancelled 24 hours before our wedding, and thankfully we found David and Annie last second. They hopped on the phone with us the night before, and happily agreed to rescue our videography (we found a separate last second company for photography). We sent over our planning details and they took care of the rest. On the wedding day, it could not have gone more smoothly. David and Annie shot our wedding as if they'd been a part of the planning process for the last year. To highlight, they captured two separate getting ready locations for bride and groom in downtown SF, and shot our ceremony and reception which covered about 8-10 hours (as well some of the dancing at the end). They were so easy to work with and allowed us to fully enjoy our day with zero stress. Miraculous given the predicament only 24 hours earlier. Their end product was beautiful. We received a highlight video of our day, and full ceremony/speech videos. At the end of the day, we were simply happy to have a videographer team there for wedding. But we were pleasantly surprised at the detail, stitching, music, and quality of their video products. The style and manner in which they portrayed our wedding day captured all the special moments and feelings as if we're reliving the day in person again. What more can you ask for! BEST EXPERIENCE EVER!!! It took us a looongggg time to pin down our photographers. We browsed Yelp and The Knot and various platforms and requested quote from A LOT of photographers, and interviewed a BUNCH - some of them have nice photos but were very flaky (e.g. miss meetings with no prior notice); some were good but too pricy; some are bad at communications; some were very hard to work with. But Annie and David had it all: they have amazing photos, they were extremely responsive with emails, they were extremely friendly and easy to work with in terms of our request/preferences, so we decided to go with them. Our wedding was originally scheduled for 5/16 in 2020. Unfortunately, it got canceled due to the pandemic. Then we were going to reschedule it to July that year, but the pandemic just kept going and going, and we decided to cancel the wedding, and just get married over zoom and do a wedding photo shoot session. We were going to do the wedding photo shoot late summer 2020, but due to the California wild fire, we had to re-schedule it again, and eventually decided to push it to summer 2021. During this whole process, Annie and David were extremely accommodating and understanding of our situation. Unlike most other vendors who either refuse to cancel or reschedule or ask for a fee to do so, Annie and David came up with a policy which is that we can reschedule it to anytime in the NEXT 2 YEARS!!! Which is the most flexible policy we've seen. Their deposit is also much lower than most of the other photographers - a flat fee of $xk (which I won't name :D) instead of 50% of the contract value, which means *even if* we cancel we don't lose as much as if we booked someone else. Especially when we had to reschedule again due to me being allergic to the pollutants produced by the wild fire, they were very understanding, and allowed us to reschedule it to a *unspecified future date*, which is just so moving!!! They are very meticulous and knowledgeable - we live in South Bay and were going to do the photo shoots at Stanford campus since that's where we met, but due to COVID the campus is closed to the public, so we had to take photos in SF, and we have no idea where are the good locations. Annie and David came up with a great list of locations that suit our need - a 5-hour photo shoot session, which contains great variety - both city and nature scenes. We hit all the best spots around the SF area! The photo shoot day had great sunshine but the cost of it was that it was extremely windy and cold. Annie and David we very understanding and would try to make me take off my jacket as late as possible, and were helping to carry our stuff along the way and putting clothes on me whenever we're done with a location. None of the locations they picked my husband and I had ever been to, so it was also a nice tour for us around SF. All of them are REALLY EPIC, which also means sometimes they had to step on a piece of rock next to a cliff to take photos, or taking photos lying on the ground or with really hard positions, and they did it all!!! They really do take the job really seriously!!! Although we haven't seen the final photos yet, the teaser - attached is a screenshot of their instagram photos - is already STUNNING!!! After seeing it you realize the pain and tears in the process are all worth it :D Really glad that we did this, and most importantly chose to do it with Annie and David. Upon researching for photographers for our engagement shoot, I really didn't know what I was looking for. I was aimlessly looking at photographer's websites, and I only knew what I *didn't* like...but not what I did. Well, it was when I clicked into A Tale Ahead's website did I discover what I liked. First, the photos themselves. I absolutely LOVED the colors of the engagement photos shown, and the poses of the couples. Because I've heard horror stories of friends who hired photographers who didn't teach them how to pose, that was a big concern for me. But, if my photos could turn out anything like these, I'd be extremely happy. Next, I snooped around to the rest of the website. I loved their simple, friendly, and easygoing personalities that shone through their FAQ and blog posts (and they also assure you that they'll take care of the poses. Relief!). I soon reached out to them, and Annie responded right away. After weeks of going back and forth (I had SO many questions for her, and she remained nice and pleasant through it all), our day finally came! Finally meeting Annie in person was such a delight! I would describe her as a petite bundle of niceness, friendliness, and ball of positivity all rolled up into one. She helped us with our poses, with my constantly malfunctioning wardrobe (darn you bra strap), and sounded so excited after every shot that it made me not only excited, but more confident as the day went on as well. And with a sprinkle of luck, we managed to go to Sutro Baths with absolutely perfect weather and few people around. Annie instructed us that the turnaround time would be two weeks. After two days, she gave us a sneak peek at one of our photos which had me *so* excited. The photo turned out just as beautiful as she had said during our session. That photo reminded me of the ones that I saw on their website, and I was really pleased. That sneak peek also taught me the word "patience" as we patiently waited out the next two weeks for the rest of our photos. And in less than the two week timeframe, we got our photos. My husband and I hired Annie and David as VIDEOGRAPHERS for our wedding last July (yes, they do video now!). We had been on the fence about adding video to our wedding, then reached out to A Tale Ahead a few weeks before. If you are also unsure whether you *need* videography: what convinced me was my friend's comment that it will be especially nice to have video of your parents and/or elderly family members on the special day. Video is a way to keep your memories of the wedding but also loved ones as vividly as possible. Hiring videographers was an expense I wasn't really expecting until right before the wedding, but we genuinely feel so fortunate and relieved that we have video and that A Tale Ahead was available. Annie and David, from the first meeting, have been super responsive, detail-oriented, and thoughtful. Our wedding was at The Gardens at Heather Farm, and because they have shot there before, they were very familiar with the venue, which is extremely helpful. For instance, they knew that we had to take sunset photos earlier than the actual sunset time because the Gardens is on a lower level than the surrounding trees and the perfect lighting would not be when the sun has almost disappeared. Thanks to their experience and expertise, we were able to rework our timeline, in consultation with the photographer and the day-of coordinator. We had Annie and David create 1-minute and 5-minute highlight films as well as full videos of our ceremony and speeches. Annie and David's sense of color, timing, and angles is exquisite, as you can tell from their extensive photography portfolio. We wanted a natural and sophisticated vibe, and they nailed it. Plus, of course there is a big advantage to having two people shoot the wedding, but it's even better if they are married/know each other well; they can tell what each other needs/wants without explaining, and everything just flows really smoothly. We were also very nervous/conscious about COVID and asked all vendors and guests to test themselves before the wedding (we ourselves tested multiple times in the 2 weeks leading up to the day). Annie and David were super cool about it and even emailed us pictures of their negative tests the morning of the wedding. When I first contacted David about conducting a surprise proposal photoshoot, I had only just begun thinking about how I wanted the big day to go. I started off with nothing more than a date and a few vague ideas of venue. We had been researching engagement/wedding photographers since way back in 2020. What drew us to Annie and David was how natural their photographs look and how they all seem to have perfect lighting. Obviously with the world the way it was at the time, we put this on hold, so fast forward to 2022 (nearly 2 years since getting engaged and married) and we finally were able to bring this back up to the top of our to-do list to do in June. In June, they have much more availability on weekdays, so we went with a Thursday to do it all in one shot (pun intended) with the 4-hour package. We first met Annie and David back in 2019. From the start they were amazing. Like, really really amazing. Annie was very responsive to all of my annoying nattering questions (including which pair of shoes went well with the dress I was going to wear to our engagement shoot). She also went above and beyond since the weather wasn't the greatest when we originally set our engagement photo date and our odd request of having a nighttime food truck shoot. David even gathered random people to run around behind us in order to create a really cool effect during one of the photos. It was loads of fun and I normally hate taking any kind of photo. We were one of the fun COVID couples who had to postpone our wedding a year. Annie and David were more than understanding and flexible. We were in constant communication before and leading up to the wedding. They made everything simple, fun, and engaging (even included my nephew's stuffed shark in a group photo!) For both the engagement and wedding photos we got quick sneak peaks and the photos back far quicker than I anticipated. We were a bit slow in getting back to them regarding our albums but Annie made everything super simple. She helped me pick out colors that would match the albums and group photos/frames for our parents. My MIL waffled a little bit for her framed photo of choice (deciding after Annie put the order in) but Annie had it corrected without any issue. This review is long overdue for an incredible husband and wife photography team!! My fiancé planned an elaborate engagement at the Ritz in Halfmoon Bay and thanks to David and Annie I get to relive that magical day over and over! My fiancé didn't just have the special moment photographed but he also made sure that it was on video. He met with David a few days before the engagement and David helped him map out and plan exactly where to walk with me, stand with me and how to have me positioned for the big surprise. David provided him with a secret mic set up so that our video could have audio. David and Annie were incredibly sweet and even did a whole photo shoot with our families who were there also. They did an amazing job and got our pictures back to us quickly and gave us a short and long version of our engagement video! Can't recommend this amazing duo more! Annie and David are the best!! We first reached out in 2019 for engagement and wedding photos. Due to the pandemic and personal reasons we had to reschedule our wedding 3 times!! But throughout the entire process they were so incredibly kind and understanding, despite it being a hectic and uncertain time for everyone. My wife and I worked with Annie during our SF city hall wedding, and with Annie & David both during our larger wedding celebration a few months later. They are both absolutely fantastic people and incredible photographers! They captured so many amazing and emotional moments during both days. Annie was very responsive and helped us figure out the most efficient plan for our photos on the wedding day. She also was able to move us through city hall so smoothly, give us tips on how to pose, and capture some incredibly elegant photos of us. We chose their wedding package that included a wedding album and hard drive of photos, and it took us weeks to look through all 600+ of the beautiful photos and down select to only 20-30 for the album.
