Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm is the cutest little farm and restaurant! We were driving from…read moreLaunceston to Hobart and happened to spot a sign for it. The restaurant is cozy and charming, with a little fireplace adding to the atmosphere. We sat by the window and enjoyed a lovely view of the lake. After our meal, we took a short walk along the lake trail and peeked at the raspberry fields. October is not the season for raspberries, so none yet! The menu creatively incorporates raspberries into many dishes. I ordered their special, a pumpkin and spinach arancini served with a fresh salad. It came with two unique dips -- a strawberry chili and a cashew aioli. The combination may sound unusual, but it was absolutely scrumptious! Since my dish didn't have their famous raspberries, I ordered a raspberry latte instead. Not sweet at all and had a very faint taste of raspberry. Mostly tasted the syrup when I got to the bottom and even then, not too sweet at all. After our meal, we headed over to their mini gift shop where they sold raspberry jam, raspberry ice cream, chocolate dipped raspberries, and a ton of other goodies. We ordered the raspberry ice cream and it was delicious! Quite possibly one of the best meals I had in Tasmania. Highly, highly recommended!

I didn't even have to push this issue myself, as the friend I visited near INSISTED that we visit Thirty Three Cups for breakfast the next morning, because apparently any visitor is a good excuse for her to eat their corn fritter dish. She spoke so highly of said fritters that, despite a very enticing menu in its entirety, all three of us ordered them. Those fritters are what is UP. Woman knows what she is talking ABOUT. There was every opportunity to hype that dish to the point of overhyping, and yet we were still blown away by how tasty that combination of classic, battery corn fritters with smoked chicken made us so happy that all three of us basically licked our plates clean. Also good was: the coffee, the stocking of Henry's ginger beer (aka My NW Crack Juice), the cheerful service, the cool fitout, the wall scribblings, that mural! The only negative was the lack of an all-day breakfast menu but heck, even the lunch menu looked like I could bury my face in it quite contentedly. I can't begin to detract stars for that singular reason, especially as I'm still thinking 'bout dem fritters weeks later. Take me back to the north west coast! Heck, take me back to ULVERSTONE! There's a sentence you don't hear all that often. I don't even care. Thirty Three Cups is worth it.

To their credit the staff were apologetic and gave us free chips and drinks in the interim, and there was a group of 15 ahead of us. Even so, it was quite a wait. Atmosphere was good, menu was limited but diverse, and we enjoyed our meal despite the wait. My salmon was good, and my husband's steak was great. Slow cooked lamb was good too. Sizes were generous.

Quail was cooked to be tender, bit pink. I enjoyed it but not much honey whiskey flavour. The halumi was a nice addition but the salad was too much. I'm now full for my main meal. My partner ordered the mushroom tart. Was rich with lots of cheese. The pastry did its job but didn't add anything to the dish. Also came with a greek salad that was too much for an entree. Main: I ordered the chef's special garlic prawn and spinach risotto. It was risotto with spinach and garlic prawns. Plenty of prawns and big serve but bland. Couldn't finish it. Dessert: Was too full to order dessert. Left feeling disappointed with a little tummy sickness.

There were a few others around but most were finishing up with purchases. The view of the vineyards and lake (with a gazebo) is very picturesque. The restaurant seemed high end with prices to match. There's starters, mains, sides and desserts. There's also a four course "feed me" option ($75.00 AUD/person). Wine tastings are $5.00 AUD/person but fee is waived with a bottle purchase.
