Tripp Smith Construction

Ray Smith, AKA Tripp Smith completed about $10,000 of work at our house. We have had nothing but…read moreissues.. I left positive feedback on ratebiz too soon. He replaced walls in my garage due to termite damage, and re-insulated. They forgot to staple the insulation so was all falling out the next week. Husband had to staple it all in. Left a big hole open when replacing the wall which was not noticeable until I took Christmas decorations down for the season. Ray/Tripp did correct this issue. The walk thru door that he replaced swings the wrong way so now we have to walk in garage close door before we can get to light switch. The header board in our garage which is huge, spans across a over sized two car garage is now sagging in the middle. The aluminum trim will have to be removed and replaced and bolts run thru it. This issue was there at the end of job, was mentioned to him and he said it was that was the way the header board was cut. That is bull!!! He didn't want to take the extra time to correct his error. Now we have to get it repaired or its going to come down. He installed french door in our home and one of the doors is warped and has been that way from installation. He has not been willing to do anything about this issue so now we are stuck with a $1700 door that sticks out at the top approximately 1 inch. Open crack at top and bottom so when wind blows the blinds in the room move. When wrapping the doors walk through, and garage door, and a window in aluminum he said it was the only color available which is almond. My house is desert sand siding so now it looks like they are wrapped in yellow. Just had someone come out to give an estimate for repairs and was told that he can wrap around the doors, and was able to match the color. Beware and do not deal with this contractor!!!!!!

Warranty does NOT cover improperly installed windows! Still waiting on professional painter and power wash. Outside railing needs second coat and who paints over a joint that isn't properly mudded. I have been fortunate to have built 8 homes in over 30 of my 63 years of life. As such, I believe…read moremy experience in reviewing Schumacher Homes is validated. Let me begin by commenting on the state of the industry as a whole from inception, supply chains and working with the direct contractor, his sub-contractors, to superiors. You should expect that the inception and planning process of designing, choosing of materials will be unbelievably easy and enjoyable. I chose Schumacher Homes because I am now a disabled Veteran from the US Navy. In past construction projects I've built, I was intricately involved in every aspect of the construction from architectural plans to closing and the keys in hand to the front door. With Schumacher Homes, you are delegating many aspects of the build. That is not necessarily a negative. Some of the problems I ran into was a part of the COVID pandemic. Supply chains were under extremely delayed timelines, intermittently. Despite that the close high-touch relationship I was able to develop with my team in Greensboro was nothing short of joyful. If this is your first home I would strongly encourage you hire an attorney to review your contract. That way you are not presented with any unexpected surprises. My review here can be summarized by stating every builder within the Schumacher Homes system has different personalities. Make sure you feel unquestionably comfortable with the contractor assigned to your build. Now that my home has closed there were a few things that needed to be corrected. I was very fortunate to have built substantial relationships with the chain of action building my home. Management was a pure delight to communicate and work. I only had one blip with one of the people in the construction chain. But that was quickly resolved. Also, my Contractor, Chris Craddock was one of the most respectful, easy to communicate with from start to finish. Christine Larson, Rock Bain and Matt Reisma made me feel as though my satisfaction was critically important for them to insure. To go even further, I feel as though I built friendships with a handful of the aforementioned people during this very sensitive project. My homesite sits on just under 37 acres. So there were multiple mini-projects from tree clearance/site preparation, septic system, well to name just a few. Because of my former background in architectural design and built 7 other houses, I chose to be more present from nearly from start to finish. This isn't necessarily what you'd have to do. This is one of the reasons you chose a company like Schumacher Homes. So what problems might occur? For me, there was only one glitch with one of the sub-contractors whose employees were unpleasant, unprofessional and unquestionably the worst element of my experience. That company's name was BuiltSmart. I've owned multiple businesses in my working career which includes being an insurance agent overseeing 35 agencies in metropolitan Los Angeles, a Pentagon Spokesman and Public Affairs Officer for a 62 ship Battlegroup during the Persian Gulf conflict. I caveat that because I have the background and experience of good business practices. BuiltSmart was hands-down the worst part of my construction experience. I cannot say enough negative comments about them. Were it not for my engagement with the management level officers of the Greensboro office and corporate offices of Schumacher Homes, was I able to achieve a modicum of satisfaction. Now, clearly and candidly there are circumstances that are unpleasant about a built from scratch home. I am a very fair and honest in my reviews. I encourage you to look at other reviews I've made here on Google to give you a measurement of my integrity. Finally, let it be known that Schumacher Homes is an excellent choice for you to build your new home whether you are a novice or pro! As with all aspects of one of your largest lifelong investments, it is essential that you do have to be cognizant and involved through the various phases of your project. why only 4 Stars? Until all of the punchlist items are resolved and I have past my first year check-in with the warranty with the builder would I be able to change my review, add additional content regarding Schumacher Homes in Greensboro. I hope this helps you in your decision making process to build your first, next, dream or forever home. I value others experiences and I want to be able to help people in general and especially in building, there will be added commentary when appropriate.
