Our first taste of the touted Minas Gerais pão de queijo had to be at a place that specialized in it. We found this place on Yelp and knew we needed to try out be pão de queijo hamburger. The place itself is cozy, with sidewalk seating and inside open air seating, as well as a small high bar counter. Service was very friendly and welcoming. We were impressed with the options on the menu. We started with a pão de queijo do dia appetizer that came with a creamy soft cheese and an espresso butter which was very unique and incredible. They rotate pão flavors but you can buy frozen ones to take home and try them all. They have a good selection of craft beers and cafes. I had to try the cafe milkshake with was delicious and filling. They also sell the coffee beans for home use as well. For food we tried the burger and the chicken sandwich. They come with an option of a salad, cubes of fried polenta. We tried the polenta which was a good size accompaniment but the fresh salads looked delicious too. The burger was delicious but the chicken sandwich was a little too much. It was topped with pesto and smothered in cheese but a little too rubbery and salty. I didn't have room for dessert but they have pão de queijo filled with doce de leite or goiabada. Trendy little sandwich shop in the district of savassi. We had a coffee/chocolate shake with the pork cheese sandwich and the sausage cheese sandwich. Ingredients were very fresh and the take on their items is more along the modern side. Definitely a place that a young professional would be found hanging out. This place is soooooo good. The first thing we wanted to do in Belo Horizonte was try some delicious Mineiro food, and what better place than a restaurant specializing in pão de queijo. This restaurant is unique in that it has five different types of pão de queijo, but they only make one per day. I think it's a good model because it keeps you coming back on different days of the week to try each one. Once you've found the one you like, you can buy the mix so you can keep it at home. With each one that you order, you have the option between two delicious spreads: an espresso butter or a creamy cheese butter. The espresso spread was one of the best, unique butters I have ever had and I could have just eaten it straight! In addition to their traditional pão de queijo, the menu also has several different sandwiches, all served on a pão de queijo bun. The burger I had was delicious, and not just because of the bun. The meat and toppings were also fresh and of good flavor, but when paired with the bread it puts the burger in the five star category. For drinks there is a good selection of local beers as well as several coffee options from local coffee. The coffee shake was especially delicious. Plenty of items on the dessert menu too, but I couldn't eat any more after the traditional pão and my pão hamburger. Yet another place I would frequent often if I lived in BH. read more

I know how to differentiate a good, cheesy pão de queijo from a flavorless one. This place does not only offer a good-quality pão de queijo, but they take it to a whole new level: they make hamburgers with them. They offer pão de queijo hamburgers of all types, and since I am vegetarian, I have tried all of their meatless ones. Each one of them is uniquely delicious. I will be very honest and say that when I saw their peculiar ketchup made of guava (yes, you read it correctly, guava) for the first time, I was a little relunctant to try it. But, after I had my first french fry with the ketchup, I was glad that I took the risk. I did not want to eat regular ketchup anymore. I realized that I wanted to delve into this world of curious flavors and great coffee. So, I never stopped going there. I experience a true "Ratatouille" everytime I go to the Pão de Queijaria, but instead of eating parisian food I get to enjoy the familiar flavors of my hometown with a touch of sophistication (and lots of cheese). So much good has been said for this place and it is all true from our 3/4 visits there. He'd to believe that everyone doesn't just adopt the Gruyere PdQ as the standard flavor! Also a little bird told us that a franchise arrangement is in the works. We are thinking that this would KILL in about 5 different locations in Rio! Wishing them luck! read more
