Come by in the afternoon and have a coffee and beer, the atmosphere is extremely relaxed and this is a great place to spend an afternoon because of how open everything is. Drinks are priced affordably especially taking into consideration the location of this cafe... 2€ for a Café...which is an espresso. If you're looking for an american style coffee, order a Grand Café or Café Americain.

They sell some food, sandwiches and salads and such, and beer, although you can only buy it with food. (Maybe so people don't get drunk and rowdy?) Whereas I would sum up most customer service in France with the infamous Youtube line, "Honey badger don't give a shit," the ladies running Taverne du livre were very nice and professional. There is a moderate selection of books (all in French), nice coffee shop-esque music, and we did several hours of work there.

When I eat dinner in a French restaurant, I greet the staff in French... as much French as I can which is what I did with the brunette female bar tender this evening. OK - it was a busy time and she was slinging lots of glasses around and trying to keep up, but this girl is bad for hotel and brasserie business. She was really nasty to me when I walked in the door and said to her "Bonjour.... can I sit anywhere?" In response, she angrily said something in French and pointed in my general direction knowing I'm not understanding the long sentence she just spoke very rapidly. I remain polite and I point to an empty table and say "oui?" To which she spouted in an ugly tone another long French sentence which she knew I couldn't understand. If she were a decent person, she would have just said "oui". Simple, right? Just oui. Instead she treated me like . next year when I return to Nancy, if I come back to this restaurant, I won't remember what she said or what she did, but I will remember the way she made me feel. A little professional advice for her: If people annoy you so much, maybe you shouldn't work in a place where you are expected to talk to lots of them...oui? One more note: the gentleman who served me the very delicious poulet was very nice and very helpful despite being very busy as well. Also the woman with the blonde wavy shoulder length hair asked me if I wanted to move to a better table as I was sitting right next to the front door with cold air coming in every time someone opened the door. Ici on s'installe devant un ordinateur et on joue en réseau. Les écrans laissent défiler les images devant lesquelles les consommateurs s'agitent. Et bien sûr il dessine le fameux trèfle dans la mousse brunâtre sur le dessus... Mais il n'y a pas que de la Guinness au Médiéval. On peut boire 7 bières différentes à la pression et 15 autres à la bouteille. La Kilkenny est spécialement importée d'Irlande. Et puis leurs spécialités, ce sont les cocktails de bière. Il faut goûter la black witch, un mélange de Guinness et de crème de cassis, surprenant la première fois.
