I needed an overhead light fixture replaced. I specifically requested a licensed electrician--which the company disputes. The man they sent couldn't do the job. The company billed me for two hours for work that was not completed. I called another company, Blue and Gray Electrical, and their licensed electrician fixed everything in 20 minutes. A+ claimed that I had been sold a defective part for them to install, but the licensed electrician easily installed the part and it worked (and still works) just fine. Also, the licensed electrician noted that the fixture had not been installed properly--it was not flush with the ceiling--which he was able to repair in just a few minutes. I hired them to do a single job for me when I first bought my house a little over a year ago. It was incredibly overpriced, but I paid anyway because I had other projects going on at the same time, and it just made things easier. Fast forward to Jan of 2022, I thought that perhaps I'd try them one more time. I called and spoke to Jim. I told him I needed my left hand out-swing, hollow core, interior door, turned around to become a right handed in-swing. I didn't need patch work. I didn't need paint. I didn't need the threshold work done. I simply wanted to hire them to give me the recessed hinge openings, and the recess for the striker plate. THAT'S it. I didn't speak Japanese, it was very plain English. Jim began with telling me he'd always recommend replacing the frame for a job like this. It's quite annoying being up-sold right after outlining, in specific detail, what I wanted the job to entail. I wasn't calling for advice or permission. I was calling to get a quote. I told him that a new frame wasn't necessary, as my frame work is great, and all I wanted was the recessing. He then said the most laughable and cliché contractor thing to say. That "if the job is straightforward" he'd only charge between $250-$300. I'm still laughing! Did you read that all the way through? $250 to recess 3 spots for door hinges, and 1 striker plate. Needless to say, I didn't hire them. And, I won't be "trying" them for anything else. Instead, I retrieved my wood chisel from the garage and got the door switched on my own. It was a basic, no frills, diy project. Maybe I should think more highly of myself, and charge exorbitant amounts of money for menial tasks?....Nah, I'll stay a decent person. read more

I received a call back shortly after I left a message, and was treated very courteously and professionally by the lady who answered the phone. I needed new shelf brackets installed in my bathroom vanity, but had no idea where I might find the correct brackets, so I scheduled a repair call. The call was quickly scheduled. i was kept abreast of the technician's arrival time. He had found the correct brackets, installed them, and replaced two drawers in the vanity that I had removed to provide him access. Very pleased with reception, scheduling, and work performed. When it come to one of the biggest investment you have (like your home) quality matters! Repairs can either add value to your home or subtract value from your home if done wrong. For eight years now I have used A + Handyman for small and large repairs in my home. Except for one time, I'll come back to that. My experience with A+ Handyman over the years has been nothing but great! Jim (the owner) talks you through every step and goes over cost before he does anything. There are NEVER any surprises. He just finished our porch to perfection! I was very concerned about my plants being damaged as they are right around the porch with very little room to maneuver. Not a single plant was damaged NOT ONE! Of course there were a few twigs here and there that broke off but nothing that would hurt the plants in any significant way. Now back to the one time I did not use A+ Handyman. A few years ago, I used another company to do some work for me around the house. The price was low so I fell for it. I now have to look at a closet with a crooked door and a hole at the bottom of the door on the side of the hinges because (the sorry excuse for a contractor) made the cuts wrong and hid the fact that he messed up from us. When I saw it and asked him to come back and fix it, he screamed and yelled at me. The pipes he "fixed", both ended up both leaking. He also kept adding the low price until it wasn't so low. I wish I would have saved my time and money and gone with another company. Richard came out to give me an estimate on a handful of different projects around the house that totalled around $3,250, and said that if they didnt' have someone on staff to fix it they will call in someone who can. Sounded great to me, so I went with it. I now think they just wanted to get a larger size project without thinking if they could handle the job completely and correctly. Well came the day they started work and couldn't finish half (litteraly) of what they started saying that I need to call an electrician and have work done and then they would come back to finish. I asked why they wouldn't call someone in to help them as they had told me would happen, and then suddenly they said "it wasn't my job", and the owner Jim would not stand behind what their sales person sold to me from the beginning. Btw, they have electrical work listed on their business card but do not have a licensed electrician working for them, and they are not willing to call one in to finish the project. So now I've paid good money for half done work that I have to now find someone to finish for them. I told Jim and Richard they will not be back into my house as I no longer trust the work that will be done and tgat they have not been honest through the entire business transaction. Why waist more time and money on a company that does not deliver what they say they will, and definitely had a low quality of work even when they managed to finish anything. As another example, I paid for cabinets to be corrected and they told me to finish the job myself by buying a magnet and screwing it in so the cabinet would stay closed. I had to tell them to finish the cabinet themselves and they need to finish the job. Ughh, just one of many half done jobs they did and me trying to get them to actually do what they said they would do. It was like babysitting grown men who didn't want to do any actual work. So to save time, money, and emotional stress just go with another handyman company there are many more out there, I wish I had! read more

After the last big windstorm, we discovered that a shutter blew off the front of our house and that all of the shutters were loose including those on the second floor. One was actually split. We were having a big anniversary party the next weekend. We called A+ Handyman and they sent Dave out the next day. He reaffixed all the loose shutters and even managed to glue the split shutter back to a presentable state in just one visit. We are very pleased and would definitely use them again! read more

New to the area and looking for a company to do a lot of projects around my house. A lot of things I could do myself and I have every power tool a man could own, I just don't have the time. Had this company out to my home to quote on numerous jobs I needed done now. First was a set of barn doors. I called after the quote to schedule to have them installed. Because it was written up as a "Barn Door" they had to get back with me. The estimator who came out to my house called me back and said he looked over his notes and yes, it was for two doors. I mentioned something to him about the build out (pad down the entry way to study) and he said he believed he could install them without having to build out the entryway. This is an open room (Conservatory) off to the side of the living room. The distance from the top of the entryway to the ceiling is 4 inches. The roller that glides on the rod and attaches to the door is 4.5" inches and you should have a few inches of additional clearance too, and we talked about that, and I had even held the rod with the roller attached up to the entryway while he was here to show him. He said he would get back to me and obviously he realized he screwed up so he never called back. I could have said nothing and had them show up, they quoted it and would have had to honor the price and perform the work. I guess why have a company in your home anyway if they can't even estimate a job correctly. Never mentioned was since the doors are 96 x 36, an inch needs to be cut from the top of the door and three inches from the bottom. These are pretty expensive doors, so I'm not sure I'd trust them to do the work anyway. Because they are local and sit right on the corner of Berryville, Ave with great exposure to traffic. I was in the process of selling my home when I contacted A+ Handyman. They were not the only handyman I contacted to tackle the buyers' "punchlist," however they were the only ones able to accommodate the short timeline that I had. They sent Richard (who is a veteran; Thank you for your service!) to evaluate the jobs. Richard was honest and courteous and what I appreciated the most was that he did not blindly follow the report of my buyers' inspector. He gave me advice on how to push back on certain items and likely saved me $1k+. The technician that was sent out to tackle the repairs was also very courteous. He managed to complete his work quickly with very little disruption. I will say that there seems to have been some mix-up with regards to the electrical work, as the technician was not certified for it. However Richard came out and took care of it himself. I gave 4 stars as I had to nag a bit to get some written items in on time (written estimates and a statement regarding an item on they buyers' list), but in the end everything was taken care of and the sale went through. I highly recommend and will definitely keep them in mind in the future. read more

My 84 year old Mom hired him to power wash her house. His employee was there for 3 1/2 -4 hours. (Mom says it was 8am-11:30am) Charged her $396.00 Did not power wash under her front porch..instead of taking a wreath down, they avoided that area...the windows were so dirty when they were done, she had to pay someone else to wash them...the shutters still had dirt all over them and last but certainly not least, they power washed the paint off about a 10-12 foot span of her brown guttering ..after going that far he realized the paint was coming off & did not wash the rest & DID NOT TELL HER ABOUT IT. (now granted the guttering is old ..which you would think they would have assessed due to oxidation, BUT you would think that you would notice immediately if you see SILVER instead of BROWN & STOP. Not 12 feet later! AND you would think he would have come & got Mom immediately, but no..they never said a word about it!) She called the owner about the guttering & porch but had not seen the windows yet (so that was not mentioned) He was nasty on the phone with Mom & has been nasty in the conversation I had with him yesterday via FB messenger. He did come to her house & offer to clean the porch but his response was pretty much sorry about your luck with the guttering. (said it was old & it's not his fault the paint came off) Now it looks like shit. And why would she want them to come back after doing a crappy job the first time & not telling her about the guttering??? NO THANK YOU! The estimate (which he did not give her in writing ,even though he said he offered ...but I doubt Mom heard correctly because she has some hearing issues..which most elderly do) was supposed to be $65 an hour & charged her $45 for soap & gas for the power washer. He claimed they were there for 5 hours & when I called him out on that he said well his guy had to use his time to go get the supplies & gas...Really? Lowes and a gas station are 2 minutes from Moms house. When I then called him out on that , he then changed his story & said he could show me a phone call on his phone from the guy that washed Mom's house confirming the price for Mom that it was between 12:30 & 1pm so that makes it 5 hours of labor...that guy could have been anywhere making that call if that's even true. During my messages with him, he insinuated that Mom was either senile or a liar, he had a smart ass come back for every point I brought up & in general he needs some manners when it comes to dealing with clients. So in a nutshell, Mom paid for 5+ hours of labor and $45 for some soap & a gallon of gas...what she got was a half clean house, windows so dirty you could barely see out of one of them, dirty shutters, and guttering that looks like crap now. AND he refuses to give her ANY money back. I asked if he could at least refund her the 2 hours of labor to cover the cost of getting the windows washed and he would not even do that! In my opinion...that is BAD BUSINESS and I hope no one else gets treated like my Mom did. read more

Took a week to get the estimator to come and look at my project (and I had to call to remind to get this done). He was then late showing up for the time window that he had set for himself -- with no acknowledgement or apology about keeping me from my schedule. Completely over estimated the project so there was no way I could afford it. I ended up going with another quote much more fairly priced from a smaller mom and pop handyman. read more

I had to call Jim early in the morning when I awoke to a leak! He sent a technician out that day and repaired it that day! He also advised me the same thing would happen on the other side of the roof so I fixed the small issue which could have been a lot worse! I called A Plus Handyman to repair or replace some roof shingles that were lost during a recent windstorm. From the initial call it took them three weeks to come out and perform the work. Unfortunately, that was just the beginning of the issues. The owner/manager Jim is very difficult to have a conversation with and needs to significantly improve his customer service skills. I was initially told that the job would cost $400-500 which I agreed to, but then I received a bill for $845. He insists that he gave me a deal! Also, the shingles that his crew selected did not match at all and the repair looks terrible. I will take some of the blame for this because I did the give the OK for the workers to install them after the ones that I found at another store turned out to be the wrong type. He swears to me that these were the best match available, but I can't say that I really believe that to be the case. One of his workers, Richard who is very nice, did come up with a solution to paint the new shingles to make them match better. However, Jim wanted to charge me even more money to have his crew do this small job. Shameful. read more
