La Baronnie is the most beautiful hotel at which I have ever stayed in my entire forty-odd years…read more And the service was excellent. And at appx. US$ 250 per night in early Sept., it was relatively cheap for the sublime location of St. Martin de Re / Ile-de-Re. One of the two main buildings of La Baronnie was, I have read, a property that was once owned by Marie Antoinette. I honestly thought I had been housed in the late Bourbon Queen's room--so grand and authentic was the room. The accompanying bathroom was very large and entirely in keeping with American expectations. Staff at La Baronnie is excellent. The apparently never-resting, multi-lingual Joachim is mentioned in many reviews--and for good reason--this young man has so mastered the essence of old-school hospitality that he is like something out of a novel or "The Grand Budapest Hotel". Other staff are as attentive and helpful. For whatever reason, however, everyone remembers Joachim. La Baronnie has beautiful grounds and a small, casual bar. Breakfast can be had in a beautiful morning room or outside. All of the Brits who stay at La Baronnie bitch that one is charged 19 Euro for what they claim is a paltry breakfast. Yes, you must pay 19 Euro for breakfast, but it's for a substantial buffet of croissants, pain au chocolat, cheese, cereals, bread, toast, some egg concoction, with coffee, tea, juice, etc. The point is, as an American, I was not disappointed that I wasn't served half a pig, blood pudding and tatty scone for "free." Another common complaint is that rue-facing rooms are noisy. I stayed in such a room. It had beautiful working shutters and was noisy when the wonderful church bells were ringing. And I also think I heard one vehicle ascend the street in early morning one day. Otherwise, the room was deathly dark at night--and even more silent then--when I stayed in early September. Staying at La Baronnie was a great experience for me. I have recommended it to others and will certainly stay again should I have the good fortune to return to the paradise on earth that is St. Martin de Re / Ile-de-Re.

Absolutely exceptional hotel in Il de Re / Saint Martin. Perfect location, very luxurious and large…read morerooms. Staff is very nice and helpful - if you're looking for a beautiful hotel, to relax, spa and lay in the gardens, La Baronnie will be your heaven.
