    A. Blikle is supposed to be historic in that it's been around since 1869. The dessert we tried - sernik (cheesecake) and a wuzetka (chocolate cake with cream and raspberry jam), were good, but nothing to write home about. It's a fancier sit down cafe-bakery, so the service was attentive. I didn't get a chance to try the other historic dessert place, E. Wedel. Their restaurant lounge looked equally if not more fancy; they may do a better wuzetka.

The famous donuts of A. Blikle.

Went for breakfast to try some of the famous donuts I had been hearing about. Surprisingly, I was not a fan. But there was a bunch of other pastries and food on the menu that was pretty good. This is a great spot to take a break, get a table outside and people watch on Nowy Swiat.

Friends and family couldn't stop raving about this place, so I had to go try one of the famous pączki. They were great, filled with orange and rose and strawberry marmalade, chocolate or cream, and decorated with dried fruits, powdered sugar and icing. They were a little squished though, and the other pastry that I tried - a blueberry bun - was not great.

    Apricot and marzipan domino

The variety of Polish patisserie desserts offered here are tempting to the eye, but I found my selections to be overly sweet and somewhat dry--perhaps from sitting in the case too long. The apricot marzipan domino broke up into many crumbs, and the paczki with the traditional rose filling practically gave me a toothache! As a tourist, it is a fine place to sample a bit of traditional European cafe ambiance, but especially in this busy neighborhood, there are other establishments that seem to offer a better quality of product.

Paczi? Panscki? Poinski? Kinda dry sadly. Sorry i ate half before taking a pic.

Coffee a little bit too sour, but whipped cream is actually made of cream, it's not an artificial product from spray.

I was impressed and vaguely perturbed to walk into Charlotte Menora to find that the Menora theme…read morewas ubiquitous throughout: The Jewry seemed to be The Brand of Charlotte Menora. This seemed to be effectuated also by means of the menu--which included supposed ashkenazi specialties such as The Pastrami Sandwich on a Bajgiel and The Goose Liver Pâté on Toasted Chała. However, Charlotte Menora also boasts the menu of the regular Charlotte cafés located elsewhere in Warsaw and several other cities of Poland. The food was mediocre--hence the three stars. The "Śniadanie Charlotte" was decent, although it remains unclear why this remains All The Rage in Greater Poland. Unlike other locations, here you are presented with an assortment of spreads--truskawkowka, czekoladowa biała, czekoladowa czarna--and an assortment of bread slices, including a singular croissant. The breads and spreads are good, but, I'm sorry, what makes them special? Can I not walk into any bakery or any Biedronka and get something comparable? Now, now, now. As for the pastrami sandwich on a bajgiel. The bagel was fine. The pastrami was edible although somewhat subpar in flavor and texture. And low in quantity. The sandwich overall was a small meal. A very small meal. Although for a price of 11 zł, it was reasonable. The "Śniadanie Charlotte", on the other hand, was 18 entire złote. Ask yourself now: Is white bread in itself a substantial and nutritious and filling and wholesome meal? If the answer is yes, you may find yourself and your body deeply enamored with the foods of Charlotte Menora. I'm not really sure how the Jew theme fits in. The whole idea of a Jew themed restaurant in a place with little to no human relation to the jewry of the world is vaguely problematic. But I'll choose to ignore this. I would be willing to return to another Charlotte location, but the Menora was subpar. The petite chałki did look moist and glutenous, though. But I didn't try, so I'm not sure if it's a TRICK.
