I've been looking for a perfect study coffee spot and finally found one!!! This place has spacious tables to spread out and fast internet. I never have an issue finding a spot and I love the large area. I also love it because the music is chill and not super loud (unlike boomtown) so you can actually concentrate! The only complaint I have is that all of the times are a little pricey in comparison to the other coffee spots around the area. read more

The atmosphere is amazing and the cause behind the business is amazing as well. They help end human trafficking and also will work with victims and train them in the hospitality business and give them skills as well as jobs to help with the recovery process! Plus everything's tastes yummy!! Make sure to stop by and grab a coffee or snack and support to end human trafficking!!! read more

It's gets so busy here! But for a reason, it's very big and an amazing place to study in! I believe it gets busy because there is a high school in front of the cafe so there is a good mixture of people inside the cafe. The food is great, I always order a croissant sandwich and I am well satisfied and happy while I am there studying. read more

Best Coffee shop in Houston Heights area. They serve real good coffee & a nice vibe in the place. We tried Cappucino, Matcha Tea Latte & Mochanut. All of them were really good. They have comfy couches to sit & relax. This place is non profit, all the people working there are volunteers & their goal is to raise awareness about human trafficking in Houston. Husband, mother in law and I came during a visit to Houston. We ordered a drip coffee, some kind of squirrel latte(?) and a banana nut muffin. Drip coffee was good - clean, rich and hot. The latte was good. Uncommon combination of flavors but worked well together. The muffin, however, was not good. It lacked in the nutty department and made up for it with chunks of soggy banana hiding in it. Service and atmosphere, pretty good. Barista was pleasant but not real talkative. Nothing against her, there was a line so it's understood to get the order and move on. On the line note, it was as long as Boomtown But was managed way better. The atmosphere was spacious and clean. Definitely a perk if you want to hang out or spread out. I would go back. read more

Love that this coffee shop is also a nonprofit! Doing my research on this spot, I learned that Houston is one of the largest regions of human trafficking. Happy A 2nd Cup is raising awareness about this. Fun atmosphere, very specious and ideal for working on a laptop all day. There is plenty of seating and a modern layout. I had the Secret Squirrel (Hazelnut + Amaretto) , which I would definitely recommend. I'm a habitual coffee shopper and have to say this made the list of faves! read more

This place is neatly tucked in the Heights and really does have great coffee. The barista was very helpful with my indecisiveness by answering my questions and making great suggestions. I finally decided to try their toffee mocha latte. I don't like my coffee to taste too sweet so they went light on the syrup and it was great! I loved my latte but I wasn't impressed by the strawberry orange bread dessert slice I got. The dessert wasn't sweet and it was dry- it made me sad. I would still go back for their lattes but will probably be reluctant to try their "desserts" read more

This cute little coffee shop has a great cause behind it and they're bold in showing what their mission is. A 2nd Cup is spacious and cozy. Great drinks and plenty of spaces to sprawl and get some real work done. Their music choice is great and the staff is incredibly friendly and passionate about the work they're doing. Good coffee and great cause! I had the Sweet Toff, and it was delish! Good flavor and everything, felt like I can power through with another cup -- so, I had the Secret Squirrel, and from the name I knew it'd be strong...but oh boy, let's just say I'll take the decaf next time! I really loved the Secret Squirrel, and will work my way back to the coffee shop to have more, but we will see ;) if anything, I'll definitely be back to support the cause of ending human trafficking. read more

This is probably the most spacious coffeehouse around. It looks like part of a warehouse sectioned off. So very high ceilings and plenty of seats abound. Parking is also generous too, which is such a relief. Their walls are lined with posters and signs stating their cause and they have an event calendar up and another bulletin with many other non-profit organizations. Very cool in spreading awareness and support for whatever interests people have. Now for the food and drinks. I had the caramel toffee coffee. It's very weak with a lot of cream. And the toffee is only a distant hint. I also had the morning glory smoothie. It's ok but overall pretty bland with too much ice and on the sour side. The have two menus: one with hot foods made to order and another to go menu with items waiting in the fridge. I got the quinoa salad and it was small but really good. There's small crumbs of feta laced throughout to give it a good amount of saltiness. Then you get a mouthful of crunch from all the pumpkin seeds and then a soft meaty bite with the boiled eggs. And it was surprisingly filling and made a complete lunch. The vibe here is a whole lot less hipster than in other shops. Maybe only one of the workers is hipster and came off kind of sarcastic but it's all good. Everyone there is friendly and open to conversation, no snobbery. We're in a new age of coffee shops, folks. Overall the vibe feels less isolated, less superior, and more upbeat. Thumbs up on all those counts. So the food/drinks there is only ok, but I truly love their mission, so I very happily support it regardless. The environment is great and a chill place to just hang out. Highly recommend. read more

The 4 stars are for the cause. It's the only reason we frequent this place. Service is ehhh staff is literally on their phones and in no rush to take your order. Coffee is decent , good place to work. Bring your patience and maybe a snack with you. They're usually out most items. read more

Established in 2011.

We are a non-profit coffee shop doing our part to end human-trafficking in our city. Our mission: EDUCATE: To provide an avenue for awareness of the issue of human-trafficking in Houston. FUND: To be a money-making engine to fund after-care solutions for survivors, including housing, mentoring, tutoring, job-skills, and other necessary skills for reintegration into society. PARTNER: To work alongside other anti-trafficking organizations to raise awareness, generate interest, and engage the public to take action in anti-trafficking initiatives.

Meet the Business Owner: Erica R.

Erica Raggett - Founder Erica Raggett graduated from California Polytechnic State University with a Bachelors of Science in Ecology and Systematic Biology and a Bachelors of Science in Animal Science. After learning about the disparity of education between social classes, she decided to pursue educational equity through working with Teach For America, a national non-profit organization aimed at closing the education gap in America. She has worked at YES College Prep, a system of charter schools committed to ensuring that every student, despite their zip code, goes to college. At YES College Prep she has worked as a teacher, District Science Content Specialist and Dean of Instruction. She has also spent much of her time mentoring at-risk girls. She has volunteered with Redeemed Ministries as the Mentor Coordinator, coordinating mentors for survivors of human-trafficking. Erica is dedicated to ensuring that A 2nd Cup become a major hub of anti-trafficking education and action

Turkish delight ($18 / lb.) - This was extremely fresh, soft and chewy, made with cornstarch, sugar, nuts. Some of the varieties I tried had chocolate and/or fruits. The baklava here was fresh made with layers of phyllo dough, chopped nuts, and held together with some honey. The nut offerings here included, almonds, walnuts, peanuts and a few more. We literally got one of everything on the menu and I wasn't able to grab photos before the kids enjoyed them, but that's the whole point! The add ons can become pricey, but for the enjoyment of your little ones, it's definitely worth it! For food, we got the Derpy spam rice, ramen and grilled cheese. The kids all really enjoyed it and definitely wanted to come back for the next pop up themed cafe!
