My review is for the overall feel of this coffee shop and the meaning behind it. First and foremost I like business' for a purpose. Human sex trafficking is alive and we need to be more informed. I can go on and on but I know most want to know more of the overall feel of the place. I ordered the Chai Fritz. I'm trying to stay away from Chat Teas because really it's not coffee coffee. However, the double espresso gave an extra kick for taste. Not the best tasting but it will do. I am giving it 4 stars due to the fact there is an actual parking lot. My goodness. It helps. We are in the heights and we all know it can be a bitch to park. Indoor seating is spaced out for your conversing group to your work coffee shop people. I'm a study coffee place person. Decor is simple and placed neatly. I haven't tried the food but I hear good things so I'll eventually try. If it wasn't for all of the above I would had given this place 3 stars. It's not overall crowded and not overly loud. You also don't feel like a lost patron in the crowd with boujee coffee drinkers. You know what I'm referring to. Customer service is ok. This place is such a good neighbor! They are one of the few coffee shops in the Heights to provide soft seating and they are always gracious when the Silent Book Club gathers for their monthly meeting. They have a large meeting in room in the back which is open to community groups - including yoga 2x a week. The main portion has an ample selection of tables and chairs and it's always full of people working away. Excellent wi-fi. The coffee is excellent, the music not to intrusive and the staff friendly and accommodating. Funds go to human trafficking prevention. read more

From the moment I came its clear their mission is to raise awareness, generate interest and engage the public in anti trafficking initiatives. And serve coffee haha Things I liked: They also have a wall of allies-- wide variety of houston organizations and events you can inquire about and be a part of. When you buy a drink/ snack, portion of your proceeds goes toward fighting human trafficking. So what about the coffee itself? TBH, I was in the mood for a matcha latte, so I didn't get coffee this time! It tasted very matcha for me and I enjoyed that it wasn't artificially sweet. Overall I found the environment spacious, inviting and a great place to study/hangout all while supporting a great cause. I would definitely come back again for those very things and to try out more coffee options. Tip: for those who need to use an outlet, the most are along the front window seating area. Best coffee with the WORST customer service. The front staff is rude and not very customer focused. They made a mistake on their side by giving me something I didnt order. When I advised them of the mistake the girl who took my order said sorry but then another lady on the side said they were out of what I ordered and couldn't take it back because I touched it. Excuse me? When you send the wrong thing and dont have a replacement you REFUND the customer not tell them 'you touched it I cant take it back'. This is completely unacceptable and rude. Quiet coffee shop with plenty of tables and a big open space - almost has a warehouse feel to it! I've been here twice and have never had trouble finding an open table (once around 3pm and once at 5pm on a Friday). I always get the tea here and they will generally make any type of tea you want. I usually get the hibiscus tea. Always a good size! Pair plenty of parking with the fact that all the proceeds being donated to human-trafficking...this place is a win win for everyone. read more

Next the food: equally as good as the coffee. I had the caprese sandwich with chips and it was served hot and fresh. The seating is also amazing! This is one of my new favorite coffee spots here in Houston. First off, their mission and vision to help survivors of trafficking in Houston is a game changer. The environment is very informative. They have wonderful decorations, statistics on human trafficking, and provide resources on how to get involved. The spot itself is large and there is plenty of space. There are different types of seats and tables. They have a few community tables. The baristas are typically very friendly and helpful. On my first visit, the barista was providing recommendations and answering all of my questions. On my second visit, the barista was a bit more rushed and you can tell she was tired. I totally understand though because it was a busy time on a Sunday morning. The coffee is really good. I had the caramel latte and the mocha with raspberry. It was delicious! My partner and I also had the breakfast panini. We ate it in 2 minutes. It was SO good! read more

Who doesn't love a place with a purpose. A 2nd cup is serving Houston with amazing quality coffee as well as education on human trafficking. They offer merchandise and volunteer opportunities to get involved and help rid our city of this disgusting practice. I ordered an iced latte with a splash of heavy cream and the coffee was so smooth that I didn't need to add any sugar. There's plenty of room to sit and read, Work, or just kick back and relax. Two of my favorite yelpers Danielle S and Diane N enlightened me on this amazing coffee shop. First off their coffee is delicious, I had their secret squirrel. Comes out fast, and decently priced. Plus the profits go towards charity, the people work for free as volunteers, and the cause is to end human trafficking. They have worked with CAMSA, which I am a huge supporter of also. Their current spot is located next to a church and it's quite large with plenty of parking. They are only open minimal hours but once the word gets out they might open longer with more volunteers. It's a good study spot if you're in the area and are lucky enough to stop in during operating hours. They have FREE wi-fi and enough outlets to keep you charged up. After going to the Vineyard Church next door, my friend needed some coffee. So, having already seen the signs of a coffee shop (people walking across the church parking lot with coffee in hand) we promptly walked over after the service was completed. As we walked up to the door we noticed their proclamation of standing for a cause--the abolishment of human slavery and sex trafficking. Shoot! It was like we were meant to find it. My friend is super passionate about ending sex trafficking and we've talked about opening a coffee shop in Augusta, GA like that to raise awareness and just because we love coffee shops. Don't be fooled, though, more the idea and atmosphere were great--I got a matcha latte and almost needed to get a second cup (kaboom-chick). The staff was great, we talked with them for a while because, even though there are plenty of tables throughout, we ended up sitting at the bar. However, I was unaware that amaretto was made from almonds (I have an allergy). I quietly returned the cup. I then had told the Baristas who displayed immediate concern and refunded me for something that was 100% my own error. Which is truly going above and beyond. The other fare is quite good, and one can spend a good amount of time sampling the various custom beverages they have to offer. The seating is comfortable and available. One wall is painted with the hashtag #TILEVERYONEISFREE and there are signs throughout the shop reminding visitors that A 2nd Cup's mission is to bring an end to human trafficking. An area in the middle provides more information about organizations in Houston that seek to provide aid to victims and raise awareness of human trafficking. The space is large and there are ample tables and couches for chatting with a friend or doing work. Wi-Fi is free. Outlets are a little harder to find but there are several by the walls. It's well lit with natural lighting from large windows in the daytime and multiple hanging lights at night. Coffee drinks are reasonably priced ($2 for drip, $3 for cappuccino, $3.75 for latte) and they have specialty drinks ($4.25), mostly flavored mochas (mint, raspberry, coconut). The espresso drinks are strong and creamy, and I hope to come back and try some of their other drinks. There is free iced tea as well! A 2nd Cup also serves breakfast and lunch from 11-7. Not a fan of the sandwiches my friend and I got ($8.50 each), but I'm hoping the food will get better as they open for a longer period of time. My "fancy grilled cheese" was cold, save for the bread, which was burnt and soggy on one side from the pear juice. The sweetness from the fig jam combined with the pear overwhelmed the proscuitto and cheese, making it taste more like a dessert than a savory sandwich. Overall, I'm a fan of this place but just hoping their food menu will improve so I can stay longer without going hungry! I must admit they had me the second I discovered that this coffee shop was unique and stood for a cause. Having some amazing coffee though really drove it home for me. Unique flavors and a variety of options really impressed me. It's quite spacious inside with tons of natural light. A 2nd cup has a great atmosphere, most notably is the vast amount of space and cleanliness. I elected to order the cortado and it was served in a 3 ounce glass for about $3.50. Wish it was a bit bigger but at least it was quite yummy. The decor of this place is rather modern and industrial feel to it, with smooth concrete floors and clean gray walls. Its mission is to raise awareness of human trafficking and even have a large meeting place for meetings in the back. The parking at this joint is pretty good where you don't need to park down the block on the side of the street and walk. With all the nice things about this place, its most troubled spot is the wifi. It is so spotty and weak that you really can't do much on it. Since most coffee shops these days have people studying or using the internet, it is vital to have a fast and reliable wifi. I hope they can fix this issue for the future since everything else about this place is great. Overall the true rating would be 3.5 stars since the wifi is such a big negative. I would come back to try its other drinks and food, but instead of an ipad or computer, i would probably just bring a book. read more
