We celebrated my wife's mothers 85 birthday and everything was fabulous, from the wine, our perfectly cooked steaks and our sumptuous dessert. We were able to put a heart box with earrings in one of the vintage safety deposit boxes, in the vault. So cool. Been stalking 9 Prime since the announcement and it did not disappoint. Space is fantastic. And not just for West Chester. Great table set up (plenty of options), lighting and sound. Clearly, nothing like this in WC and based on the crowd, a place that folks have been wanting. Food. Appetizers - octopus and arancini. Octopus can be "tough" and this dish was fantastic. Think Dimitri's 15 years ago. Steak and scallops exceeded expectations. Table side tiramisu was the only miss. Nothing special and presentation was kind of a head scratcher. Service. Excellent. Attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. WC can be a challenge with service given the pool of candidates, but they did it right here. Cocktails and wine. Again, great. Server knew my "unusual" cocktail request and bartender got all the components spot on. A very welcome addition to the borough. The dining scene in WC has continued to get better, but always stayed within and a comfortable zone of styles. 9 Primes expands that zone and should be a success. read more

Went to dinner reunited with college friends that I see once a year. We were very excited to try this new spot, only to be extremely disappointed and treated poorly by the older bald gentlemen bartending. I have never experienced anything like that prior. **Disappointing Anniversary Dinner at 9 Prime** I had high hopes for celebrating our anniversary at 9 Prime, but unfortunately, the experience was far from what we expected. The ambiance was nice, and they were featured on FYI Philly on March 23, 2024, so we were excited for a special night out. Unfortunately, the service and quality of the meal completely fell short. First, we had a reservation for 8:00 p.m., and was seated at the bar for our anniversary celebration. My wife asked if we could be relocated to another area of the restaurant. Not a great start. Once seated, things didn't improve. Our waiter seemed rushed and overwhelmed, however she was friendly when she interacted with us. We ordered a drink and some appetizers and soup. The soup was lukewarm and I asked to be heated up, once it retuned it was still the same temperature. We ordered at 8:22pm. Our main course didn't come out until 9:35pm. This was pretty disappointing since they where featured on FYI Philly. Now, for the steak itself - I ordered the Kansas City Strip, medium-rare and my wife had Seabass .My wife's meal was cooked to perfection, however my steak was over cooked and dry. I asked the server if my steak could be corrected. The next steak was seared to perfection on the outside, when I cut into the steak it is was not even blue rare it was RAW! I expect better for the price, especially when you're celebrating something as special as an anniversary and the wait time to of over and hour for our food arrive. The whole meal just didn't feel like it was made with care. For the price and the occasion, we expected much better food and service. By the time we were done, I just wanted to leave. It's clear that this place is riding on its reputation, but unfortunately, the experience didn't match the hype. Hands down, the best steak house in the Chester County. My wife had a medium rare filet and it was the best I've ever tasted. I had a medium rare NY strip which was also delicious. The flavor for both steaks blew me away. 9 Prime takes steak cooking to the next level. The side dishes, soups, and drinks are also top notch. My wife and I love the old bank atmosphere. From the moment we went in until the time we left(2hrs), our experience was exceptional. our server Jacquie and food runner Evan incredible. My Kansas City steak cooked to perfection as was my wife's petit filet. Salads, appetizers and desert all delicious. Atmosphere was great, place was packed by the time we left. If this place had issues early they've certainly figured it out now. One of the most enjoyable dinners my wife and I have had in a long time. Thank you 9 Prime staff. I was a regular customer starting April 2024, (5 nights a week) spending $100 each visit. On schedule to spend around $24,500 a year ($500 wk. X 49 wks.). New manager, Scott, came on board 09/01/2024. Since I was a regular customer, I asked him if my soda, $4.00 ($980 per year), could be a complementary charge due to my loyalty (I based this on several previous high-end restaurants I have frequented over the last 30 years that obliged). He told me 9Prime was in business to make money and not a charity. FYI... a 12 oz soda cost a restaurant about 28¢, roughly $75 per year. What a fool!! Gives up a gross increase of sales of $23,520. Guess he never heard of good will or customer service. Due to this I have decreased my visits substantially. The food, for the most part is okay. Furthermore, I visited on 10/18, 10/24, and 10/29. I always get a medium filet mignon. On 10/18 it took over an hour to get my food AND the steak had to go back twice because it was under done the first time and then overdone the second. On 10/24 my steak was underdone and had to go back twice and on 10/29 my steak had to go back twice. On each occasion I asked to speak to a manager and each time no manager showed up. Wow, this place is a "must try"! From ambience (restored old bank complete with giant vault doors), amazing staff, and food to die for! Favs: Crispy Brussel Sprouts, Charred Spanish Octopus, ice cold Caesar Salad, Filet Mignon done to perfection, pull apart bread with salted butter spread and finished with Peanut Butter Mousse (with a secret chewy ingredient). I don't think you can leave zero stars. I'd leave negative stars if I could. Save yourself the disappointment and go anywhere else. TLDR: Host refused my reservation while continuing to call and text me to confirm the same reservation and then sent me off to stand next to empty tables and wait for a spot at a very full bar. I made my reservation for one on the restaurants website a little over two weeks in advance and I received a confirmation email. Additionally I received a confirmation call the day before and the day of my reservation. Yes, I know a reservation for one is a bit odd, but they JUST opened and I wanted to be sure I could get a table before getting all dressed up and calling a car. I was looking forward to a nice dinner out. I was planning on celebrating a personal achievement. I arrived right on time for my 6pm reservation. The bar was busy but there were tables available. Unfortunately, I was told they do not have tables for one. This is a ridiculous idea since any table is a table for one if one person sits at it. Nevertheless it is not in my nature to argue in public so I asked if I could be seated at the bar since they were unwilling to seat me at a table. The host team said they would let me know if something became available. I said I would get a cocktail while I wait and keep an eye on the bar as well. While I ordered and paid $25 for one martini, I received a call from the host stand asking if I was on my way for my reservation. As you can imagine it was a bit of a weird conversation to explain that I was right there, standing behind them and they had just told me my reservation was no good. Shortly after the call I received a text message from the restaurant saying my table was almost ready and I should check back with the host. At the host stand I was told the text was also a mistake. I was then sitting in a chair sipping my cocktail and content to wait patiently for a space at the bar to open up when a host told me to go upstairs to wait by the upstairs bar. She said there were chairs and I could wait there. I went upstairs to find that all 4 chairs were occupied by 4 couples already waiting for bar seating. Furthermore, the upstairs bar only had 8 seats and was already full with people just starting meals and unlikely to move anytime soon. There were also several empty tables on the second level, including a couple very petit and out of the way two-tops. I could easily have been seated at either of those tables. And you cannot make the argument that "oh they're reserved for people with reservations" because I was a person with a reservation! At this point I'd spent half an hour in the restaurant and I decided not to be there feeling so unwelcome for another minute. If they require at least two guests per table then they should make that information available online. I can't image why they wouldn't allow solo diners, but in the meantime they should adjust their online reservation system so that reservations for one cannot be made in the first place. There are may reasons for someone to make a solo reservation. I could have been a food critic assigned to write an article. I could have been a widow commemorating my anniversary. I shouldn't have to be any of those things for my reservation to matter. I've never had this problem before and I've made many solo reservations in restaurant all over the world. Furthermore there is no economic argument for denying solo diners. Seating one person at a table designed for two is no different than seating four at a table designed for five. The next day I emailed this exact story to the restaurant and months later still no response. Meanwhile I've heard nothing but disappointment from people who've been unfortunate enough to actually eat here. Steak overdone, poorly cut pieces of meat, long waits for food to arrive after ordering, poor presentation, and rushed interactions with servers. read more

Went for drinks on a Friday night around 7PM thinking we might see if there was a table or order some dishes at the bar. First, the interior is absolutely beautiful - well done. Our group of 4 all agreed that the bartenders are not very friendly. I get the entire theatrical we're so posh and you're lucky we let you in here vibe - unless you are wearing Gucci - then you're cool. But, that won't put butts in seats after the newness wears off. This is West Chester, not some exclusive place in Philly, or Cherry Hill or wherever. We weren't impressed. We then decided that maybe it would be best to go elsewhere so we returned to that other steak house in town. They get it. Came in with a party of 4 and was seated quickly. The dining room was pretty empty on a Sunday evening and we were all wondering why. As we got served our food, we started to realize why this place wasn't "popping" to its full potential on a weekend. The drinks were lacking, the crab corn bisque was way too thick and had a faint taste, the entrees were very underwhelming. Each of us got something different and it was a salmon entree, a scallop entree, a chicken entree, and a sea bass entree. All were bland, dry, and lacked ingredients. Don't know why dessert was even considered but we tried a lemon pie and I personally had such HIGH expectations for my dessert called the "Baked Alaska" and *sigh* WAS I DISSAPOINTED!!! Sorbet is supposed to be served soft but mine was pretty much still frozen and the "pound cake" was dry as the Sahara Desert!!! I'm not kidding. The service was not an issue at all...I was told 9Prime had great food and even a better ambiance when they first open. Starting with my Sazerac, properly mixed which is an often failed test, so stingy it looked ordered from the children's menu. Caesar salad impressive and tasty. The steaks: my wife's strip was fair. But this is a STEAK HOUSE. The meat compared to Longhorn in Exton. I wanted the rib eye. The waiter suggested the $69 Delmonico, saying it was thicker. My Delmonico, as a previous reviewer commented, was between 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick. Tough, chewy. This is a STEAK HOUSE. $69!!!!! Lemon tart dessert only taste was too sweet. Coffee served cold. Did I mention: fine dining with NO tablecloths. Parking is a problem. No valet. My prediction: way up your game or get what you deserve. read more

First time there and was excited to try! We arrived early for dinner for party of 12 in our own upstairs room , and for a drink at the bar downstairs while waiting on a Thursday. For the price of $18 for a drink there was not much on presentation and tons of ice to water it down. Wow!!! Just dined there over the weekend for Sunday brunch. I walked in and the place is so opulent and palatial!!! Beautiful job on the interior!! I started with the shrimp cocktail and they were gigantic and cooked to perfection, absolutely delicious! Then I got the Brioche French Toast and another great pick!!! Now I can't wait to go back to try a steak there. I plan on getting the 18 oz Wet Aged Delmonico, so expect a follow up review from me! Summary: For the premium pricing there are many better options - i.e. Eddie V's in KOP. The Good(very good): Starters, sides, fish, atmosphere. Buratta, lobster bisque, roasted beet and chopped salads, carrots, brussel sprouts all impressed. Two of our party had fish dishes ( Branzino and Cod ) and they were top notch. The room is elegant and quiet enough that you can actually have a conversation without straining to hear each other. There is plenty of space inside and they don't allow people to stand behind folks seated at the bars. The Bad(not so good): Drinks & cocktails. As mentioned in another review they are on the stingy side. Martinis came out unevenly poured, one being about 3/4, others were better but still a bit short. Waiter left one at the bar telling us he was having the bartender top it off because it looked too empty. Blue cheese olives appeared to be the pre-packaged variety and not freshly stuffed on site. SMH. ( -1 star ) The Ugly: Two of us went with the waiter recommended Dry-Aged Kansas City strips @ $69 + the $7 up-charge Truffle butter. (One medium rare, one medium). Server who brought them out had no clue and, of course, delivered them incorrectly. Both were under-cooked and not impressive in either taste or tenderness. - It's a steakhouse - this has to be the best thing on the menu! The space is spectacular and in an old bank with two giant vaults. My ribeye was cooked just right, my wife enjoyed her scallops, and we shared the bone marrow which was good, and the octopus which was magnificent. The place is worth checking out, if not for a complete dinner, (which cost $350 for three people), we plan on going back for drinks and appetizers at the bar. The staff seemed a little bit green compared with other steak restaurants we have been too. Little things like seeming to be in a hurry to clear plates prematurely. The staff were very courteous, efficient and reservedly friendly. The food was outstanding with generous portion on the side options. The ambiance was really impressive being as it was a bank before. Utilizing the vault was impressive. My wife and I were there on a Sunday at 5pm. She had told me to dress exceptionally well because they had a strict dress code that was enforced. When we got there at least half the patrons were in shorts. The dress code explicitly said you must wear a collard shirt. At least one patron was wearing a T shirt, shorts and sandals. No one was refused service. I suggest they change they're dress code if the are allowing such causal dress. Given the buzz and even hype preceding 9 Prime's opening in the old 1st National Bank of W.C. building, the pressure is on. The old bank has been transformed into an impressive looking restaurant, so it certainly looks the part. While I would have chosen something different from the gray-black motif, they do utilize the old vault as a large party dining room and the bar is large and classy. We started with the lobster bisque that, though overpriced, was very good with very tender lobster chunks. The steak I ordered, the wet aged 14 oz. ribeye, was high quality and cooked properly. Our sides, the garlic mashed potatoes and charred broccolini, were excellent. Our service was spot on, with our waitress being thoughtful enough to bring us complementary glasses of champagne since it was our wedding anniversary. I think some of the tough reviews thus far forget to factor in that any new place needs a few weeks at least to find its footing. I recommend W.C.s latest restaurant addition, it may very well become our Butcher and Singer, the top-notch steak place in center city. read more

Had heard from several friends the service was terrible and they weren't going back anytime soon. We waited a bit and gave the benefit of the doubt bc of it being new. Well, it was an hour and 10 minutes before we even had an appetizer come to the table. Our waiter would just disappear and it was not a super busy night. Tried to order wine, and it was at least 20 minutes before we would receive it. Our dinner was almost 3 hours- way too long to sit at a table. If anything, this will drive people MORESO to Pietro's! t looks and tries to play the part, but outside of the (good) bartenders, everyone, including the manager, needs to go. They sell themselves as an upscale steakhouse, but it's not. It's lipstick on a pig. Even told 2 friends to not go, they went anyway, citing "it can't be that bad - maybe you had a bad night" and BOTH of them has even worse experiences. Upstairs feels like a glorified cafeteria - terrible lighting and no mood. Downstairs is cooler, but it gets masked by the inexperienced and poor service, as well as the terrible food. A few (poor) highlights: 1. Steak was barely warm and overcooked. Everything served was barely warm actually. The expensive butter you can get as an add on comes out hard, and refused to melt on a barely warm steak. Fail. You're a steakhouse - act like it. AT LEAST make a good steak! 2. Crab legs - terrible bang for your buck. Was described as a very large and thick leg (discussed for a while with waitress after hearing the price) and came as a small, spiky claw that would have had barely any meat. Immediately sent back, laughed and looked at the guy and said "you know that's going right back - right" and even the person bringing it said "Yeah - I don't blame you." Fail 3. Servers did not know their way around their menu, let alone were slow and unenthusiastic and were found congregating in plain view on their phones. At least act the part, but this is the managers fault. FAIL Ruined a long-awaited date night. Never again. The space is beautiful and comfortable. I can't speak to a full dining experience as we sat at the bar. But I wanted to compliment Austin, our bartender, for his attentive and impeccable service. OK, here is my experience with 9 Prime. I can't knock anyone else's experience, but mine was very different. First, we showed up Saturday night at 8:10 for an 8:30 reservation. After checking to be sure the table was ready they were able to seat us immediately, so we had wait of minus 20 minutes. We were escorted to a table for two in the back room. It was dark and intimate. The place was alive with conversation but we were able to hear each other with no problem. We were promptly served our water of choice and given the drink menu. We ordered cocktails and received the dinner menus. The drinks arrived after a few minutes and the server went over the dinner menu with us. I asked, and the only steak on the menu that is not prime beef is the Piedmontese grass-fed NY strip. Bev ordered the roasted beet salad and the wet aged New York strip and I the red gem wedge and the dry aged bone-in cowboy cut ribeye. I was a little surprised by the wedge salad because the red gem lettuce is very different than the usual iceberg lettuce, but it turned out to be crisp and delicious, with cubes of roasted guanciale, a pleasant change. The steaks arrived done medium rare as requested and both were flavorful, juicy and tender. I requested Bearnaise sauce on the side and there was plenty for both of us. One little hiccup, our server returned and apologized, the steaks usually come garnished with broccolini but they were out at the moment. He came back with a garnish of roasted Brussel sprouts. Fine with us. For dessert we shared a lemon tart and I ordered a cappuccino. The cappuccino arrived a few minutes after the tart but otherwise the service was impeccable. We have dined at the other steakhouse in town a couple of times and this meal was superior by far. It was well worth the price, but our budget will allow us to visit perhaps once a year, and only if Bev says I have earned it. I have enjoyed some memorable steaks over the years and here is my ranked list. 1. La Bonne Auberge, New Hope, PA, now closed. 2. Bones (twice), Atlanta, GA, ranked by Zagat the number one steak house in the US. 3. Pappas Bros., Dallas, TX (some say Chamberlain's is better, but we haven't been) 4. St. Elmo, Indianapolis, IN (huge shrimp cocktail!) 5. We had dinner over the weekend and the food, steak , scallops and salad, it was fantastic along with the service and cocktails. We decided to return for a burger and a cocktail and found it to be very disappointing. The burger was packed too tight and had a funky flavor. Fries were dry.
