This place is the bomb dot com for happy hour from 4pm to 7pm with great appetizers and drink selections! At first walking in, we noticed that the restaurant is a bit smaller than most cajun shrimp spots. It was almost a bit too cramped for 4 people where we sat plus how they use actual plates too. We were seated immediately and was well taken care of throughout our meal, so 5 out of 5 for the awesome employees! Now for the food.. we went a little ham ordering off the happy hour menu but it was great to try everything. -I cannot stop raving about the calamari here, hands down one of the best because it wasn't too battered up nor was it in little pieces. They were huge and chewy so must get! -Next up we ordered the garlic noodle with prawns and seriously, they came out looking like the nicest plate ever with parmesan and all. The noodles feel like the ones Chinese restaurants use for chowmein so a bit more chewier but a solid side here. -We also ordered a dozen $1 oysters and they were a little disappointing since we thought itd be bigger. I'd probably skip em here but maybe it'd be good for all you starting-to-try-oysters-in fans! -BBQ wings are pretty bomb here too, quite saucy with celery and carrot stick sides! It comes out with 6 wings and you definitely can't go wrong with them. -I feel what makes a cajun restaurant is their sauce and unfortunately the sauce they used for the shrimp didn't cut it for me. The combo sauce wasn't as rich as I would've hoped for. You could definitely taste the salt and translucent oil in each bite, not so much room for the other cajun flavors. The best part about this order was the size of the shrimp and being able to order headless too. - Parking wise, use street parking not the parking lots around the area because you will get towed (since its for tenants)! My boyfriend ordered their garlic noodles and French bread while I ordered the calamari and garlic fries. The calamari was bomb! We live a short distance away, but I was concerned the crispy-ness wouldn't hold up - it did! Seasoned well, and the portion size was fair. Everything else was very underwhelming. Garlic noodles were dry and the French bread was actually 3 Hawaiian rolls. The garlic fries weren't bad, but unlike the calamari, they didn't have an ounce of crisp to them. They almost seemed undercooked. But still, not bad. To be fair, I'd like to return so that I can explore more of their menu. Perhaps during happy hour. I was really excited when my son and younger sister told me that they would accommodate me to 938 Crawfish for lunch. We decided on the Meal which is a really good deal at $48.95, if the food was actually good. We asked for the spicy level, which they weren't joking because it was all we tasted. The whole thing was just spicy and that was it. There was no flavor of any type; it's like someone took our food and boiled it in hot water and chili peppers. The only thing my son enjoyed was the fried catfish so I ended up ordering a second order for him since we weren't enjoying the seafood boil. The deep fried Oreos were just soggy and soaked in oil. After one bite, we all just pushed it off and said we won't be coming back again after this. I agree with all of the review updates Yelpers have written for this resto lately. Unfortunately, what we are agreeing on is their complete lack of service. Slow, slow, slooooow... The servers will leave you with your menu for forever-and-a-day and even after you place your order, it takes another forever-and-a-day to receive it. Lord help you if you're seated at the red table that's up a few steps on the platform to the left. They'll just forget you're there. The final straw for me? On my last visit, they didn't clear the table before bringing out dessert. I had to make room for the plate myself and eat ice cream among shrimp shells and hot sauce. Yummmm... Not. I would not be leaving such a poor review if it was just a one-time fluke, but it wasn't. I've come back in good faith that the good food would keep me a returning customer, but alas. How am I gonna start this review? I'm figuratively at a loss of words. Happy hour sounded enticing. Their $1 oysters were delicious and their happy hour margarita had a pretty good kick to it. But the main dish of the meal lacked the most important part of the crab - crab mustard. Listen, if I'm willing to shell out $40 for a dungeness crab, I expect the whole damn crab. But no... that's now what got my gears grinding. When I politely asked how to get the mustard the next time I visited, the young lady gave this look of disgust. She started saying that they don't serve - in her words, "the brains and guts" of the crab. I replied with a smile on my face (hoping I didn't give the looks of insult) to ask if I can have the mustard if I asked the next time I ordered. She said she'd ask and came back about ten minutes later. However, within those ten minutes... I felt extremely self conscious. I grew up eating the mustard in the crab with my mother and family. In my culture, we eat this with rice. This stranger really made me feel repulsed with myself by the way she spoke to me about my inquiry. I snapped outta it as soon as she came back of course. She gave the same look of disgust and said that they'd leave the mustard in if I asked for it the next time I came back - in which I will never come back based of her reaction. My colleagues told me about this place, how great it was, and how relevant it was to The Boiling Crab. But here, I'll give you an idea: 1. They don't have bibs when your eat. So don't wear a nice shirt. 2. Their bathrooms are disgusting. Broken acrylic nails all over the floor. 3. Don't park to the right of the establishment, your car may get towed. 4. Their garlic noodles arn't as fantastic as people say they are. The portion is small. 5. The shrimp was WAY OVER COOKED. Like they boiled it for 7 and a half hours. 6. I heard about a new Cajun food place in Albany and I had to try it out! My boyfriend and I came in around 7:30 PM and we were seated right away. The waitress was very pleasant and got us our lobster bibs, ice water, and salt & pepper with limes right away. We ordered garlic noodles (plain), cajun fries, and 2 lbs of shrimp. Garlic noodles: They were delicious! With extra garlic cheese on the side, you can control the flavor just the way you like it. There is no rice here (unlike other Cajun food places) but the garlic noodles definitely make up for it during the meal. Cajun fries: The cajun fries were very flavorful! The sauce was all over the top of the fries. However, the french fries were the fat kind and it didn't taste as satisfying at the kinds at Boiling Crab or Crabyard. What I like to do toward the bottom of the french fries pile is start dipping the fries in the combo sauce from the shrimp bag to get more flavor. Shrimp: We both got 1 lb of shrimp in combo sauce and medium spicy level. It was freshly boiled and placed in a plastic bag with a bowl (and two pieces of bread) under. I ate directly from the bag but you can definitely dump all the shrimp in the bowl if it's too hot to eat. I thought the amount was extremely plentiful! (I counted around 20 shrimps in my bag alone) The flavor wasn't very lasting and I kept on dipping into the bag to get more flavor, but still tasted delicious overall. I also got a corn on the side and it was fresh and sweet. I will be back! :) The ambiance was fantastic, the food was great, and the servers friendly! We stopped in in March (sorry about the delayed review) for my husband's bday. I think 938 Crawfish had just opened within 30-60 days at this point. My kids had the fish and chips. and enjoyed that. My husband and I had shrimp w sausage and potatoes. He had the mild and I the medium. OMGOMOGMG the Medium was TOO HOT. Maybe I'm a spice weenie =) oh well, next time mild for me too. My only criticism was the potatoes weren't whole, but cut in half and by the time it got to me, they were crumbly and almost non-existent. They gave us free fried Oreos w ice cream. The menu is typical: - appetizers - boils - sides - desserts They do have a happy hour: Monday - Friday 4PM-7PM Includes: - $1 oysters - $3 wells - $3 deep fried Oreos - $3.50 beers - $4 house wines - $5 margaritas - $5 buffalo wings - $5.50 calamari - $6 long islands PROS: good variety for big groups that want a little bit of everything off the menu. I ordered a pound of shrimp ($13.95) with mild garlic butter and also ordered a side of rice($1.95). PROS: - shrimp bodies were big and plump and there a lot of pieces in the bag. - they do have a heads-off option which I chose. CONS: - garlic butter sauce was very little and the sauce was more buttery than garlic-y - the rice came in really small bowls, for almost $2, it wasn't worth it. My boyfriend and I shared their Cajun fries ($4.95). CONS: - the fries were very salty and I couldn't even taste the Cajun seasoning. Just pure salty. I had to ask for ranch and even that couldn't save the fries. OVERALL 3/5: Not sure if this is how the restaurant itself runs but we weren't exactly sure who was our sever. We started with one and then ended with another. I understand that servers help each other out, especially if it's kind of slow and there's no runners available yet(or if they all run the food themselves all the time), but I like knowing who my server is so I know who to tip and all that. They give you some tartar sauce and a wedge of lemon if you needed it. The prawns was seasoned and they tasted great. I also ordered the garlic fries which was a disappointment. The garlic fries look liked they have been seasoned with Lawry's seasoning and fresh minced garlic. I could barely taste the garlic. At the San Francisco AT&T Park, they would put 8 times more garlic in their garlic fries. I was expect that kind of garlic fries but this was different. I don't recommend the garlic fries. On June 26, 2018, at approximately 9:00 pm, a friend and I arrived at this location only to wait 10 mins for an employee to notice that we were waiting to be seated. After being approached by the manager/owner, we were asked where would we like to be seated pointing at two different tables. After making our selecting, we were seated and told that water will be coming shortly. While waiting for our water and ready to place our order, two staff African American Female and Asian Female was behind the bar counter engaged with other customers. After not receiving service after 20 mins, my friend and I left. What make this situation even worst. We stood outside the restaurant looking though the window and noticed that no one even noticed that we were gone. I will not be returning. It's not your typical "crawfish joint" with the crowd, long waits and loud noises - quiet, simple decor and all of the flavor. We were here on a weekday for dinner so it's unsure if this place gets crazy over the weekend. We went for some HH treats (2 dozen oysters) and the meal deal (2lbs total of crawfish, shrimp, clams and mussels, garlic noodles, fish & chips and fried oreo with ice cream) for about $43. 2 stars for the garlic fries and the combo seafood boil with combo sauce/no spice. To start, when we arrived it took a little over 5 minutes for us to be seated because they were cleaning a table that people just got done eating at...even though there was PLENTY of empty seats and tables to accommodate a party of 7. Only after they were done cleaning the table did they tell us that the table they cleaned can seat a party of 6...um you're lucky we had petite children who can squeeze together. Once we started eating I was pretty satisfied with the Cajun combo with no spice. The chunks of garlic is really what kept me wanting more. Although the rest of my family seemed quite dissatisfied with the "Insane" spicy option. Once we were done eating we all took turns to go wash our hands in the bathroom. As we waited the bill was paid and the waitresses hurriedly started to take away our food. Without any verbal exchange they just took a plate and piled whatever they could, dragging away someone's bib and SPILLING garlic oil on my boyfriends jacket!! Once we told the manager the girl came by and asked what happened and all we received was an empty sorry and then walked away. My friend and I were craving shrimp on Saturday night and haven't been able to make a trip to Boiling Crab. We decided to look for alternatives and came across this place! It was either this or Rockin' Crawfish in Oakland. Rockin' Crawfish had an hour wait, and 938 didn't have one at all, so we headed over. The place is casual yet sophisticated. Not a typical Boiling Crab-esque feel, it was a little bit fancier, but still had the bibs! Service was great and fast. We got the garlic noodles with prawns -- SO GOOD. One of the best Garlic Noodles I've ever had. Definitely want to order this again. But probably without the prawns, since the seafood combo has enough. It wasn't worth it to add prawns in my opinion. We also had the garlic fries which were great. We got the seafood combo for 2 and it was the perfect amount. We LOVED the sauce (we mixed both the sauces that they offer) and we got it at a medium, which was the perfect amount of spice. The sauce was so great, similar in taste and quality to Boiling Crab. But we thought it could've been seeped into the food a little bit more! We had to dip the shrimp/sausage/etc. into the sauce to taste it more. For 938 Crawfish to have 4 stars, I am throughly shocked. My friends and I came in on a Saturday evening. When we arrived the waiter/bartender informed us, that they were out of, Snow crab, King Crab, Crawfish, Fried Oyster, Raw Oyster, Waffle/Curly Fries, Fish & Chips Etc. She then shared we would have to wait longer for our food due to having a Catering order to prioritize, understandable... But It took around 30 minutes for us to just receive water. After around an hour and half or so we were able to place an order for appetizers and around 30 minutes after that we were able to put our actual orders in. Three of us had the "Shrimp Seafood Boil" it was the worst boil, I have ever had. You figure how can you mess up shrimp, potatoes, corn and sausage. I was able to send my boil back, after I had to beg to the waiter that I was not going to eat it. Unfortunately my other two friends were not able to send their Boil's back. The waiter said "any food that comes out of the kitchen can not be taken back due to it coming out of Inventory" WHAT!!! I have never heard of that in my life. Also, two women that were seated around an hour after us were assisted and able to place their orders before us. We then had to get the waiters attention again to let her know we had been waiting close to two hours now to put our orders in. This was such an unpleasant experience, we paid almost $400. We did not expect to get anything for FREE, we simply wanted to switch out our Boils for something we may have liked. But instead was forced to keep the boils. Music playing at high volume, and over that, a room full of people shouting and laughing- having a good time, in other words, but we had come to celebrate a special day, and we couldn't hear each other across the table without shouting. On top of that, we were asked to do the "QR" thing at the door, and, when told we weren't carrying phones, the greeter seemed nonplussed, saying she thought she had a menu somewhere. After a wait, she found one- just one- by which time we'd decided that 938 was just not going to be our kind of place- at least, not that night. We fled to a nearby, quiet bistro and had the evening we hoped for. Probably, I'm not being fair to the place; it is what it is, and we expected it to be some other kind of place. I could see going there again, when we're in the mood for a boisterous scene- but we still won't carry our phones, just because someplace has automated its service. Well I decided to try out 938 crawfish for the first time and turns out they were out of crawfish... So I settled with garlic noodles and prawns which was actually really good. I don't have any pics different than what I've seen from other people already. So on to my review. When: Friday before father's day. Time: before 5p Party:5 Because we were there fairly early we had no problem finding a table for 5ppl (opened at 4p) Tables were lined with white paper (kids colored pics and it made for easy cleanup.) Food was really good(except I didn't care for the calamari). Garlic noodles, very flavorful. The staff was very timely with their attention. I was excited I came right around happy hour which is between 4-7pm. I was disappointed that they were out of oysters & thai tea. But they were able to give me the last 2 oysters that they had left. The oysters were a $1 each, that were a tad on the small size. I had the garlic noodles it tasted just super average & it needed some more garlic. I've been to this place once before, and it was alright! The owner is my friend's aunt. I've witnessed people try the INSANE spicy challenge, and I've gotta say, don't do it. I ordered oysters as an appetizer and a pound of shrimp, combo, with medium spiciness. It was pretty tasty, but the sauce just didn't feel like it was cooked into the shrimp, unlike how it is at Boiling Crab's. Medium spiciness is okay, I can handle quite a bit, but it didn't really make me like the meal overall. The oysters were pretty small, but I liked that they compensated with giving us 7 instead of 6. They were fresh and what not, but not memorable. I tried the garlic noodles before, and they're pretty tasty! Flavored well and will leave your breath smelling like garlic.
